Problem saving and playing Real Audio file

I'm trying to download and save a real audio file. The ram file leads to a smi file that then leads to an mp3 file at a rtsp://www.someplace.com:554/hei.mp3

Why is the smi file pointing to an mp3 file? When I play the file through the link on the website, it uses Real Audio to play it.

The downloading software (Streambox and Flashget) download the file but it gets saved as an ra file. When I play the file, it's very choppy for 10 seconds and then stops. Changing the extension to mp3 doesn't work.

Any ideas what's wrong? I've tried changing download connection speeds, renaming the files.

Thanks for any leads.

Post a URL of a web-page where I can find the Real Audio .ra rtsp:// stream

I haven't seen anything like this before. Please post a URL of a web-page where I can find the Real Audio .ra rtsp:// stream so that I can check it out for you.

Re: Problem saving and playing Real Audio file

The original link:
http://www.chassidus.com/audio/nigun...al-Neginah.ram

The ram file 02-06-Kol-B-Yar-from-the-Shpoller-Zayde-Heichal-Neginah.ram:
http://www.chassidus.com/audio/nigun...al-Neginah.smi

The smi file contains the following:

Code:

<smil><head><meta name="Album" content="Heichal Neginah"/><meta name="Title" content="Kol B'Yar - from the Shpoller Zayde"/><meta name="Copyright" content="(c) 2001 Heichal Menachem"/><meta name="WebSite" content="http://www.chassidus.com/"/><layout><root-layout width="400" height="300" background-color="black"/><region id="text_region" left="0" top="0" width="400" height="300"/></layout></head><body><par><text src="02-06-Kol-B-Yar-from-the-Shpoller-Zayde-Heichal-Neginah.rt" region="text_region" fill="freeze"/><audio src="rtsp://www.chassidus.com:554/heichal-menachem/nigun/02-06-Kol-B-Yar-from-the-Shpoller-Zayde-Heichal-Neginah.mp3"/></par></body></smil>
I start Streambox and paste the link:

rtsp://www.chassidus.com:554/heichal-menachem/nigun/02-06-Kol-B-Yar-from-the-Shpoller-Zayde-Heichal-Neginah.mp3

The download seems fine and saves as a ra file but doesn't play with Real Audio player.

Plays fine if I use the link from the main page but not if I download the file.

Thanks for the help.

Re: Problem saving and playing Real Audio file

I had a problem playing the stream with Real Alternative, but I was able to record the Real Audio stream with HiDownload and NetTransport. I had to rename the downloaded .MP3 file to .RA file to play it. The developers of these programs even managed to make new releases that should work with such .SMIL metafiles more correctly and you should't experience any problems recording the stream. You may download them and try.

As for my favorite stream recorders called WM Recorder and Replay A/V I expect to receive replies from their developers very soon. You know it is a night in the US so the Chinese guys were much faster ;)

I can't check the WM Recorder myself 'coz my security software has damaged my system and WM Recorder doesn't work on my PC atm. Working on that...

p.s.
As for the SVCR, there is nothing I can do. The program is no longer developed and there is no any support available. This is one of the reasons I don't suggest it anymore.

FlashGet has never been a popular/recommended stream recorder so you can't find it on the top of
the streaming media recording software chart.

Thanks for the leads. Haven't tried using HiDownload or NetTransport. I'll look into them.

RM Recorder just sat waiting for connection. Maybe I should try WM Recorder even though it's an RM file I'm trying to get.

Even without support, SVCR has been pretty good.

Just tried HiDownload and I'm having the same problem. Gets the file, I rename it to a ra extension. Playing it sounds choppy for the first few seconds and then stops.

It seems like something is wrong with the connections these programs are using. I'm not sure where to start trouble shooting. Seems more like a networking problem except Real Player works over the same connection.

Sorry for trouble. I have tried the mp3 URLs, all are ok.
You can also change "Threads" to 1 in the Add Windows, then retry to download it.

If you have still any question, you can also send the downloaded MP3 file to webmaster@streamingstar.com, I will check it, thanks.

Here is the reply from the developer of WM Recorder

Copy this URL on WM Recorder main screen under URL, type a file name say File.rm in the FILE box and click RECORD. It is important to use the extension .rm such that the recorder use the RTSP protocol. The mp3 extension in the URL is wrong. The file has Real Player format.

The recording can be downloaded from my ftp:
