AverTV HD DVR: Problem capturing 1080i video from DVR: audio/video out of sync

Hi Every one!

I'm in a tough situation currently with my AverTV HD DVR
AverTV HD DVR HDMI 720p/1080i capture card that I need help with if possible..

Here is the deal:

I am currently using an HDCP workaround (you use the AverTV's old driver with VirtualDub).

The thing is that I can capture 720p with ZERO problems through my DVR, but 1080i is giving me a very weird problem.. .

Every single 1080i show that I record is perfectly in sync (audio and video), but by around ~4 minutes in.. the audio starts going out of sync.. I have no idea how to solve this and feel like I have tried EVERYTHING..

I have changed the chunk size/chunks (in Buffer / IO) .. I have used pretty much everything you can think of.. Tried different Hard drives (I have an SSD/WD Cavier Black/Seagate 7200 Barracuda)..

I have tried it on two different computers (my main PC is a Intel i7 980x 6 core and my backup is a AMD Quad Core)..

I have tried different codecs.. etc etc..

I am trying to capture Lossless video/audio and then encode that myself in a program like Megui..

I am pretty experienced in encoding.. but not very experienced in capturing.. but I have read up A LOT and have only had this card for 2 weeks ..

I am using a direct feed of HDMI to my PC from my Uverse DVR.

I also make sure to capture in "No Display" mode so it doesn't put as much stress on the PCI-E.

Please help me with any suggestions you have for audio and video out of sync in 1920x1080 mode .. (this card can only capture up to 1080i)..

I would GREATLY appreciate it guys.. I have tried a ton of other programs as well.. The only one that is remotely good that can do uncompressed video is a program call "AmarecTV," but it is a Japanese program so I can't go to their forums/website to actually diagnose why I am getting dropped frames/inserted frames..

I might also note that I am getting 0 dropped frames/inserted frames in VirtualDub with my change in the buffer/IO settings.

Thanks!!!!

No one can help me in VirtualDub? It seemed like there were some true experts on here...

Have you analyzed how your CPU (and all cores) are loaded during recording?

Hey, yeah. I'm using my Intel 980x PC so it has 12 threads (so 12 cores basically with the i7 technology). It seems that they are all over the place.. The Ut Video Lossless codec is multithreaded and recognizes that I have 12 threads so it uses them all.. So the speeds really tend to fluctuate a lot.

I have tried to manually make the codec use less cores like 2,4,6,8, etc and it makes no difference. I have also tried different codecs with no luck.

What do you think I should try? Its only a problem with 1080i and I'm not sure why.. And every video is the pretty much the same place at around ~4:30 the audio goes out of sync.. but its fine before that!

Also, I might note that I have my TV right next to my computer as well and can view both at the same time.. Using the audio from my TV, I can tell that the tv show is perfectly in sync during the capture.. I just don't know what throws the audio off..

I can also select the "resync video using resampling .." The default under Capture > Timings . and that fixes the audio in 1080i, but I don't have to do this in 720p?

You've done a good job!

Why don't you use Huffyuv or Motion JPEG codecs instead of UT Video Lossless?

Also do you record interlaced videos or progressive? If you record progressive videos, there is no sense to use 1080i.

May I ask how I did a good job when the problem is still not solved? The only way to get the 1080i (1920x1080) video in sync is to resample the audio (resync during capture).

On 1280x720p I don't have to do this (I select "do not resync" under video > timing).

The huffyuv gives me the same errors as the UT video lossless codec. I don't think you can use the Motion Jpeg for true lossless can you? I want the best compression for when I go to encode the video in a program like Megui or Handbrake.

The reason why I want the true 1080i is because the source is 1080i so its going to be a better version to compress . It will be of higher quality.

Any ideas?

Motion Jpeg is a lossy codec, but I really doubt that most viewers will see any difference.

I guess using a deinterlacing filter is not option, but the usually degrades when using it anyway.

I don't really know anything about SSD performance, so can't tell you whether a RAID array will be better or not. Your CPUs are very powerful, but can't tell you whether they can be a bottleneck here or not.

I recommend to contact Aver support and ask the doom9 community.

What is the HDCP workaround? I have a new AverTV HD DVR card and would like to record HDMI to a file. (The content is my own.)

Can you give details on how to do this?

What kind of your own content do you want to record?

The only way to overcome HDCP in HDMI that I know is the "Analog hole". You just convert HDMI to component video using HDFury2 like devices and then record from component video.
