Create Online Video-Chat room that can be watched by any number of viewers

 

Hi all,

I´m starting off from a raw concept and I wonder if anyone can give me a tip or point out the right technology to use to achieve what I want with low or no cost. Thanks a lot in advance.

THE CONCEPT
I want to build an online 2 people video chatroom where both participants have their webcams stream to the same window (split just like interviews on the news)

A. I want any number of people to be able to connect to my website, and just watch, those first two people video-chat in real time
B. I want to be able to record the video chat (two webcams split into the same video) into my server or somewhere else in real time

Please help; any tips are most welcome!

You may try to create this yourself using some streaming server. See what kind of technology chatroulette like web-sites use.

You can also ask the developers of charoulette like scripts to customize software for you.

Or you can outsource your project via a freelance marketplace.

You might want to try sifonr.com

Select "Make globally unique", check "Protect stream publishing" and enter an optional passphrase. You then will be provided with a public and an authorized UID and URL when clicking on the puzzle-like icon in the upper right of your tab. Share the public URL with the viewers and the authorized URL with the publishers - that easy. Or alternatively, share the public UID with the publishers along with the passphrase, so they can enter everything manually, which is the less compromising way.

It's all free, no registration required, all without limitations, and can be embedded like a youtube video or the like (right-click and select "Copy embed html").

PS: One thing to note is to select "Multicast" when choosing your camera. This way an unlimited number of viewers may watch the streams, in a self-organized peer-to-peer way.
