skindle.exe error: bad open, quitting

Every time I run skindle, I get the message "bad open, quitting". Any ideas?

Re: skindle.exe error: bad open, quitting

I'm trying to decrypt book.prc with the following cmd line

Code:

C:\>skindle\skindle -i book.prc -o book2.azw
but I'm getting a "bad open, quitting" error.

I'm not planning on making getting this to work my life's ambition, so plz, someone w/ more knowledge than I, advise.

Try to use unswindle, topazscripts or DeDRM AppleScript for Mac OS X 10.5, 10.6 instead.

I'm having the same problem as someone above:

Code:

H:\>UPLOAD\skindle-06\skindle -i B*****_EBOK.azw -o BOOK.azw
Attempting to locate kindle.info
Found kindle.info location
B0049MPHTY_EBOK.azw bad open, quitting

A poster above suggested that the other user download swindle. However, I cannot download swindle... the site that hosts the program is blocked by the company I work for, and I have no other access to internet (I live on a base). In addition, I have NO CLUE how to use swindle... it took me long enough to figure out skindle, because I'm not very techno-savvy.

Is there any way to get around this with skindle? Or, is there another way to download swindle AND somewhere to find instructions to work it?

(Thanks, this forum has already been super helpful!)

If you can't use skindle, just use unswindle or other tools.

As for your questions about unswindle, please read here:

Like I said, I can't use unswindle (sorry, I called it swindle in the earlier post). I cannot download the program because the site that it's hosted on is blocked by the company I'm working for, and I have NO other access to internet at all. I was unable to find a mirror for the program on another site by googling.

What other tools could I use? I've only heard of these two (unswindle and skindle)

There are also DeDRM AppleScript for Mac OS X 10.5, 10.6 and topazscripts for removing DRM from topaz ebooks.

I had the same problem, and I was unable to open ebooks on my K4PC app. What worked for me was deregistering through the Kindle for PC app and then reregistering. After re-downloading the ebook from my archive, I was able to open it and then run the skindle script to remove the DRM.

The easiest way to remove DRM from Kindle for PC ebooks is by using a Calibre plug-in:
Download DRM Tools Archive for ebooks

It makes sense to use other methods if the Calibre plug-in doesn't work for you.
