Problems with DVR 8204S: can't see the video stream

I am able to correctly see my DVR from remote PC, but I have an additional difficulty: I can't see the video stream! I can see any page "published" by the DVR, but the video page just show 4 black squares.
I can properly see videos only from my local network, so I guess it's a matter of port redirection.
Unfortunately, no clues about ports used for streaming are provided in the manual!
I guess used port are 64000, 64004, 64008 and 64012, because I "downloaded" from the DVR a javascript file which uses the internal activex to show the stream. But, although I redirected the ports on my router, I'm still not able to see the video strams!

I think my DVR is a Vtech, as I can barely see such an advertisement on the page where I bought it from:
Code:

http://www.kingshopitalia.com/dvr-videoregistratore-4ch-lan-web-mjpeg-500gb-p-138.html
But no clues about the brand are available in documentation or on the DVR, just marked as "8204S".

I also received QQEye, a SW for Symbian phones, but even it is not able to view the video! How can i figure out what the cellphone SW is sending to my video server upon attempting getting the video?

Does it exist any free generic-DVR viewer SW?

It is hard to say who is the manufacturer of 8204S. It could be Shenzhen Skybest Electronic Co. Ltd., Huashi Technology Co. Limited, ... Contact the seller and find it out. Then contact the manufacturer's support.

Re: Problems with DVR 8204S: can't see the video stream

after hours of tests and googling, here are the results:
ports 54000, 20000, 6610 and 3180 must be open to get the 8204s working properly.

No solutions yet for QQEye.

Hi there Jumpjack,

I'm having the same issue and have tried to replicate the ports you mentioned below.

Can you confirm the settings that you used for these in the router? Base port etc.?

Thanks,

Ken

Anyway, for google visitors: yes, with this configuraitn my DVR worked fine.

New issue:
how can I access the videostream of this DVR? It can usually only be viewed by IE, which uses an ActiveX, but what if I want to see it on firefox or cellphone?
I know the videostream is on port 54000, but I can't "hook" up to it with VLC, RealPlayer, MJPEG Player,.... Any help?

Re: Problems with DVR 8204S: can't see the video stream

Have you learned port forwarding? http://qrcctv.co.uk/cctv/cctv-port-forward

By the sound of it this DVR (along with many DVRs) need active X and therefore can only be viewed from Internet Explorer!

Not much you can do about that apart from buying a DVR that is compatible with all browsers.

But you might be able to view it from mobile phones. You just need to download a compatible CCTV app.

Android CCTV App http://qrcctv.co.uk/cctv/cctv-android-phone

Iphone CCTV App http://qrcctv.co.uk/cctv/cctv-iphone

These apps are free of charge and work with many DVRs.

Re: Problems with DVR 8204S: can't see the video stream

Well, I guess you can view the video footage from local network. That means you need to do the portforward in your router or DVR.

After doing the port forward, you need to type the WAN IP address with port to visit the DVR. If you don't know your internet address, you can google "What's my ip?"

For the DDNS, you need to either use the manufacturer's default DNNS service or the no-ip.com free DDNS service.

More information, you can read this article: http://www.hkvstar.com/technology-ne...ork-setup.html
