USB 3.0 HD capture cards for recording HD video of gameplays from xbox 360, PS3,...

ATM Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle is the only reasonably priced USB 3.0 capture card.

Note that Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle puts very strict hardware requirements.

Intel X58 series motherboards with onboard USB 3.0 support are required to support Blackmagic Design's USB 3.0 video products. The onboard USB 3.0 support of other motherboards, such as the P55 series, cannot be used.

Listed below are motherboards that have been verified by Blackmagic for Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle, UltraStudio Pro and Pocket UltraScope

You can also use Blackmagic Design's USB 3.0 products with a P55 or X58 series motherboard which has been fitted with a USB 3.0 PCI Express expansion card.

The USB 3.0 expansion card must be one of the following:

x4 lane PCI Express. This card can be fitted in a x4 lane or faster slot in any supported series of motherboard. Blackmagic recommends the Asus U3S6.
x1 lane PCI Express 2.0. This card can be fitted in a x1 lane or faster PCI Express 2.0 slot in any supported series of motherboard. Blackmagic recommends the Gigabyte GA-USB3 and the Shintaro USB 3.0 PCIe expansion card.

On some motherboards, it may be necessary to enable PCI Express 2.0 for 1 lane PCIe slots in the BIOS to ensure full bandwidth is available to the PCI Express 2.0 slots.

Make sure your USB 3.0 card is installed in a PCIe slot connected to the North Bridge. This will ensure full bandwidth is being provided to your card. If you see the image of your Blackmagic output flashing, this would be a good indication that your USB 3.0 card is not running at full bandwith.

Many USB 3.0 cards have shipped with older firmware and drivers which won't support Blackmagic Design's USB 3.0 products. It is essential to check the firmware and driver versions of your USB 3.0 card

I only have one question... in the title of the thread you say you can record HD from xbox... isn't that HDCP??? can the blackmagick really record from xbox?

If you use HDMI connection for recording xbox 360 gameplays, there shouldn't be any problem. You may find lots of feedback from gamers recording HD videos over HDMI using Blackmagic Intensity Pro. There should be no difference when using Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle for recording from HDMI.

PS3 however uses HDCP. And xbox 360 uses HDCP for movies as well. To record HD videos in such cases you need to use component video.

The Intensity Shuttle was then connected to our computer and our Xbox 360 via HDMI at 1080i. As well, Blackmagic Design and Fresco Logic just recently announced Fresco Logic's development of a new USB 3.0 host controller, the FL1009, which will be able to handle the large bandwidth requirements of 1080p60FPS. Current USB 3.0 Host Controller cannot handle 1080p60. Whenever this is made available as a PCI-e add on card you then be able to record 1080p at 60 FPS, assuming your system is compatible. This is something that those with an Xbox 360 should be interested in as it outputs 1080p at 60FPS.
