What is TiVo
TiVo is a Linux based digital video recorder, developed and marketed by TiVo, Inc. TiVo provides an electronic television programming schedule, whose features include "Season Pass" schedules which record every new episode of a series, and "WishList" searches which allow the user to find and record shows that match their interests by title, actor, director, category, or keyword. TiVo also provides a range of features when the TiVo DVR is connected to a home network, including film and television show downloads, advanced search, personal photo viewing, music offerings, and online scheduling.

Since its launch in the United States, the TiVo has also been made available in New Zealand, Canada, Mexico, Australia, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom. Newer models like TiVo TCD648250B Series3 HD Digital Media Recorder, however, have adopted the CableCARD standard, which is only deployed in the United States, and which limits the availability of certain features.

TiVoToGo .tivo files
TiVoToGo .tivo files are encrypted MPEG-2 files. Your unique Media Access Key (MAK) is appended to all TiVo recordings. TiVo Desktop software includes a .dll that is used to decrypt, your TiVO recordings using your MAK.

How do I watch shows on my PC?
To watch .tivo files, you need:
TiVo Desktop
MPEG-2 Codec
DirectShow-capable Media Player (like Windows Media Player, Media Player Classic)

TiVo Desktop software installs software (a DirectShow DLL) which is needed to decrypt your .tivo files.

How can I convert TiVo files, burn TiVo files to DVD?
Use freeware directshow dump to decrypt your .tivo files. Then you can convert them to other formats or burn to DVD using your favorite audio/video converter and DVD authoring software.

AviSynth can also open .TiVo files, so you can use it to convert .TiVo files to other formats for free.

There is no certain software developed for Mac users to transfer and replay TiVo DVR recorded files as "TiVo Desktop" doing on Windows.

You can try to use Windows software on Mac OS with Wine or WineBottler:

I don't think AviSynth will work, but other programs may work.
