Hi

I dont know any free software for it, but no free?

You can try to use a VideoCHarge Studio, i used this to split MP4 by part without reencoding, and known that MKV support as well.

I'm assuming you're talking about a mkv container which contains avc/h264/x264 video.

Without re-encoding, the best split you can do is to the last key frame.

Depending on the number of keyframes/reframes the file was encoded with, they may be as often as every second or as rare as every 8-15 seconds.

You can't do editing of any sort with frame accuracy on h264 video. You'll have to re-encode to a lossless format to do frame accurate editing, and then encode again. Sorry...

with VideoCharge Studio you can edit MKV/H264 without reencoding independently of key frames.

How do it?

for editing without reencoding very impotant possition of keyframes, you must use nearest keyframe to cut part of film and blimey is right.

But VideoCharge Studio can encode some frames to nearest keyframes, and left frames dont encode. It is very nice function! :)

To use this mode, you have to check "Editing" options on Format section.

I was having good luck with SolveigMM Video Splitter no keyframe BS, splits on any frame, no problems, and it's faster than avidemux. also no BS about remapping MP3, no H264 frame incompatibility, etc. Really, SolveigMM Video Splitter is great.
