How do I record from sound card and microphone at the same time without stereo mix?

How do I record from sound card and microphone at the same time without stereo mix?

 

I have a windows vista laptop (no stereo mix) with a built in microphone. I have a headphone jack and a microphone line/in jack. Is possible to record audio from both at the same time by using something like a male to male audio cable?

Try to enable stereo mix or buy a sound card that has it.
