How can I hook up my computer (laptop) to my HD TV?

I have a Samsung HDTV and a Sony VAIO laptop, how can I hook up the computer with the tv so I can watch stuff from the computer on the tv?

Also can I watch streaming shows on the HD TV when it is hooked up or can I only watch downloaded material?

You can always use streaming video recorders to record live streams and watch them later on.

And you can watch streaming videos as well as downloaded videos if you connect your computer to HDTV via HDMI, DVI, VGA,...

If your HD TV is DLNA certified and you connect it to your computer via LAN, then the content that you can watch on your HD TV depends on a DLNA server software that you use.
