Audio streaming problem - Unable to get audio when listening to streaming video/audio

I hope this is the correct forum for my question.

And thanks in advance to anyone who can assist.

I am unable to get audio when I try to listen to streaming video or audio feeds.

My system works fine for torrents, internet tv, and all other media. But when I try to listen to streaming media directly, from cnn for example, there is no sound.

I am using Windows media player 11. I upgraded from Windows media player 9 because in Windows media player 9 I got sound okay, but it was too fast!.

I had to upgrade my operating system to windows xp service pack 2 to gain access to windows media player 11 (I thought all this would fix my problem).

Thanks again for any advice.

Tony

UPDATE

I found the solution on another thread on this site. Thank you very much, I had spent all day on this problem.

When I downloaded Windows xp service pack 2, I was lead to believe all relevant codecs would be included. This was not the case, I have just downloaded K-lite codec, and all is now working.

Yes, Tony, you're absolutely right, WMP doesn't have all the necessary codecs. Free K-Lite (Mega) Codec is a good choice. Although sometimes it can change system codecs so that say your video editing software won't work properly. Nevertheless I use it.

The only reliable source of Win XP SP2 is Microsoft's web-site:

Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2)
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/default.mspx
