Download the latest version of eBookUtility
It includes eBookUtility.jar, kindlepid.py, MobiDeDRM.py

Update MobiDeDRM.py if needed.

eBookUtility it is just a more user-friendly, GUI-wrapper for the great python scripts developed by Igor Skochinsky. It allows to remove DRM protection from whole folders of AZW files at once. And it stores the PID and serial number for future use, requiring it to only be entered on the initial startup.

Since this application is a wrapper it displays the output of the python scripts in a text box so you can see what's going on behind the scene easily.


If you don't have a Kindle and want to use eBookUtility:

1. create a text file called "ebook.props" in the ebook utility folder
2. put "PIN=<Your PID>" where <Your PID> is, obviously, the valid PID associated with your mobi books
3. put "Serial=<random junk>" where random junk is anything you like, since you don't have a kindle, it doesn't matter, so put something in along the lines of "Serial=1234", ebook utility won't care, it'll even display in the bottom of the app, so put something that makes you happy.

I found a simple reasonable priced software to remove the drm from rook.....isn't there one for Kindle? To me python is either a snake or Monty Python...

Unless there's a tut....I have python installed but don't understand how to run the scripts, thanks. Cyn

I can't get past the Serial number entry. It says I'm using an invalid Serial # and can't process the DRM emoval. I'm using Python 2.6.6 and the latest scripts. I tried with two different Kindles with same result. Serials are 16 digits and begin with B8008A0...

Any ideas?

Well, like I said, it was too much for me, try *** You can try it, it just won't convert the entire book.

I like these as you are converting text and not capturing a picture of each page. I have 2 versions, one for kindle and one for the library's overdrove/adobe dig. editions....love them both.

Download your ebook with Kindle for PC and then try to use a Calibre plug-in first. Download it from
DRM Tools Archive for ebooks

I've been banging my head against the wall trying to strip the DRM from one single azw3 eBook purchased off Amazon.

Almost every single tool I have used has given some sort of error about no serial or PID or whatever found.

Tried thus far:

calibre with the correct plugin
DeDRM.bat
mobidedrm.py
and even the trial version of Kindle DRM Removal from ebook-converter.com

In my quest for this functionality, I did see that there is a commercial DRM removal tool out there (in addition to that last one). However, there does not appear to be a trial version of it. So since there is no way to know for certain whether or not it will actually work, there is no effin way I am going to drop the $30 plus on it only to find out it is not what I need either.


I am back to once more trying to get this to work with Calibre and the plugin mentioned to strip DRM from Kindle books.

When I load the book in Calibre (Guild-Wars-Ghosts-of-Ascalon.azw3), with my Kindle Fire's serial number added to the plugin, I get this as the book loads:

"Error: No key found. Please report this failure for help."

Is this a case of no one has yet bothered to update their tools to work with the latest DRM formats? Or is there something else I am overlooking?

The file was downloaded to my computer using Kindle4PC.

I tried for several hours - pissing about with the PID and an invalid SN - this worked perfectly - Thank you VERY much! FYI - Kindle Fire S/N: D0... Windows 7, and the latest version of Calibre with the appropriate plug-ins installed.
