Problem with flash player for Shoutcast radio: browser crashes (memory leaks)Hey guys,
I've been toying around with launching an online radio station for a while now. So far I've tried shoutcast streaming using winampa nd a shoutcast server. I embeded a flash player on my site to play the stream. Everything seemed well, but the player started crashing the listeners browsers. Now I know about the flash player memory leaks and other issues and it seems there is no real solution to it. What set-up would I need to run a proper station? I've seen online radio stations with flash players that don't refresh the page every 30 minutes or use gimmicks to keep it running. I think their secret is rtmp. I've tried researching that but I didn't understand it all. Is rtmp the way to go? If so, would I best buy and set up my own server? Thank you |
Re: Problem with flash player for Shoutcast radio: browser crashes (memory leaks)I've always used Winamp or similar player to listen to Shoutcast and Icecast streams, so I didn't even know that the problem exists. Draftlight offers extensive information about the problem:
