Can't record audio: No Stereo Mix option (SigmaTel sound card, Dell Optiplex, WinXP)

I have Dell Optiplex 740 and I want to record (video + audio) the games that i play on my system. And i don't get the audio as there is NO Stereo Mix option in the software driver provided.

It has SigmaTel Audio Driver. I am working on XP Professional OS.

I tried my best but could not find any solution.

I installed an LG driver for Sigmatel Audio Card suggested in another forum (downloaded from http://uk.lge.com/support/download_soft.jsp )
but it didn’t work as it showed some errors and the driver couldn't be installed may be because the drivers were for laptop and might be having some incompatibility problem with that.

I tried Virtual Audio Cable also. It was quite successful with small audio capturing but when I tried to capture some program for 45 minutes it resulted in audio flickers and misses at a lot of place.

Kindly help.

Re: Can't record audio: No Stereo Mix option (SigmaTel sound card, Dell Optiplex, Win

I also tried the following trick:
  1. Start -> Run -> Regedit -> find the following key
    Code:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/Class/{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}/005/Settings/filter/Rear
  2. Create new binary entries, Modify the MasterControlsIndependentMixerInputs and change the binary values 0000 01 to 0000 00
  3. Modify the EnableInputMonitor and change the binary values 0000 00 to 0000 01.
When I right clicked the EnableInputMonitor and chose Modify, the window opened already had the value 0000 01 (as per the tutorial it should have been 0000 00). Now I had two options only, one was to leave it as it is and the second one was to change it 0000 00. I tried both and when I restarted the system the sound icon was missing in the task bar. I went to Control Panel and right clicked on Sound, it was uninitialized (just as it is not recognizing the driver). Before attempting this i had made a restore point so i was able to restore the windows.

I tried all this with no luck
kindly help

What's that about? Cheers in advance guys...

If you already tested audio drivers from LG and Dell, but still doesn't have the "Stereo Mix" option, you can try to download a driver from Intel:

Audio: Intel IDT* 92XX Driver (Intel Desktop Board DG965RY, D5400XS, D945GBO, D945GCL, D945GCZ, D945GNT, D945GPM, D945GTP, D945GZCC2, D945PAW, D945PLM, D945PLNM, D945PLRN, D945PSN, D945PVS, D945PWM, D946GZAB, D946GZIS, D946GZTS, D955XBK, D955XCS, D975XBX, D975XBX2, DG33TL, DG965MQ, DG965OT, DG965PZ, DG965RY, DG965SS, DG965WH, DP35DP, DP965LT, DQ963FX, DQ963GS, DQ965CO, DQ965GF, DQ965WC, DX38BT, DX48BT2, Intel Workstation Board S975XBX2) [OS: Windows 2000/Vista 32/Vista 64/XP/XP Media Center Edition/XP Professional x64]

This driver was tested o Dell Inspiron 1525, Dell Lattitude D531 and Dell XPS M1530.

Re: Can't record audio: No Stereo Mix option (SigmaTel sound card, Dell Optiplex, Win

Download the latest audio driver from Dell:
  1. Go to Dell.com
  2. Click "Drivers & Downloads"
  3. Click "Choose a Model"
  4. Choose a type of your computer
  5. Choose a Product Line
  6. Choose a Model
  7. Click "Confirm"
  8. Click "Audio" and download an audio driver
  9. Install an audio driver

The problem is that the Sigmatel 92XX audio driver for Windows Vista from Dell doesn't have the "Stereo Mix" option. But you can try to download the driver for Windows XP. Run the driver in Windows XP compatibility mode and it should work in Windows Vista.

Please don't try to install the driver if you don't have the Sigmatel C-Major 92XX HD Audio!!!

SIGMATEL STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio version 6.10.0.5614, A09 (10/24/2008) is compatible with:

Re: Can't record audio: No Stereo Mix option (SigmaTel sound card, Dell Optiplex, Win

I have this exact same problem on two laptops upgraded from XP to Windows 7. I tried to "Show Disabled Devices", but the stereo mix is still not shown - in fact nothing than what was already there is shown (two Microphones High Definition Audio Devices and a Line In High Definition Audio Device).

Both of my upgraded laptops show the only available input source as "Master Volume" in my sound recording software (which is Windows 7 capable - although I have downloaded 4 other sound recording programs to determine that it is not an application error but a Windows 7 one). In XP I had the following available input sources from exactly the same sound cards : CD Player, Line In, Microphone, Mono Out, Phone, Wave Out Mix.

Any ideas what the problem might be ?

I followed your tips on changing the binary code, but no i have no sound devices recognized at all.
