Cannot skip through recorded MP3 audio stream WMP

I have recorded an MP3 audio stream track that is 1hr 9 mins long it plays fine on WMP, however, when I try to skip through the track i.e point and click on the progress bar down the bottom, nothing happens, and eventually it restarts again?

Is there anyway I can divide the track in to segments?

Hmm, actually you can use Replay Media Splitter to do this.

If you don't mind my asking, what program did you use to make the recordings?

Thanks for your kind reply Stream Ripper.

I used Replay Music to make the recording, I must say I am a novice when it comes to MP3 splitting, could you advise how I go about doing this? I would like to split the MP3 into segments so I can put it on my ipod and skip various tracks. What is the best way to do this?

Do you want me to send you the file to see how I could go about doing this?

This usually happens with ASF (WMA) streams. You can make ASF files seekable.

You may cut/split MP3 files losslessly using freeware MP3DirectCut. You may also use freeware Audacity sound editor.

Replay Music splits and tags tracks automatically. The only problem is that there should be no song overlaps so that Replay Music can identify the end of a song.

Thanks for the information I will check out the links later on tonight and have a tinker around.

The file I recorded was a radio stream RADIO 1 (uk) live in Ibiza, lots of talking over the songs and the general hyping of the audience. I think my best bet might be to

a: Make it seekable using the software links you gave me

b:Use the MP3directorcut link you gave me to go through and see if I can cut the speaking out.

Do you think the Reply splitter will be able to determine the end of each song on this particuar radio broadcast? if so should I give it a shot?

BBC Radio 1 offer Windows Media, Flash Video and Real Media streams. Your file is not seekable, so most probably it is a WMA file. MP3DirectCut can only cut MP3 files.

Replay Media Splitter allows you to split Windows Media files, but AFAIK it can't find the end of the song.

Replay Music records from your sound card to MP3 and WAV, so you shouldn't have any problems fast forwarding such recordings. You might have used Replay Media Catcher or Replay AV when downloading your stream.
