Freeware Screen Recorder Software

Hi, right now for a freeware screen recorder I use Debut screen recorder software.

It is freeware but you have to watch out when installing it, be careful about the installation process. Also, when recording to like mpeg or flv it has to download separate components which are free I believe but strange it doesn't come with it already. For the best quality I use the windows media 9 codec for video and choose a mpeg layer 3 for audio.

It can record videos that play in windows media player and embedded flash players without adjusting hardware acceleration. It might be able to record screen activity from games too haven't tried it yet.

I still have freeware zd soft screen recorder which I don't use right now because of audio issues. However it might work great for you.

Freeware screen video recorder software for Windows:
Freeware online screen video recorder software (Windows/Linux/Mac OS/...)
I don't really like web-based screen recorders, because they limit your recording time plus they worked slower for me giving worse quality. But they are free, work on many platforms besides Windows and theoretically can be used from any computer where you can install Java 1.5 and a web-browser
Freeware cross-platform screen video recorder software (Windows/Linux/Mac OS/...)

Free Screen Video Recorder - Doesn't record audio yet, but the quality and ease of use is good. Might have to watch out for the toolbar it might install, but the support from the dvdvideosoft staff is good.

I think the latest free version of AmaRecCo should be put on the list. See my original post.

I don't think that Debut is free any more - unless I was conned into paying (approx) ?25 to continue using it past a trial period. Of the several screen capture programs I've tried, it's the best - in the opinion of this very inexpert user!

Am now trying out CamStudio on my netbook (not wanting to pay for another Debut licence), and it is working but am still working out how not to have to select the same region every session, but it's early days (Day1, actually ;) ).

Re: Freeware Screen Recorder Software

Maybe I needed features not included in the free version.

I just bought another licence for laptop No2, it's version 1.63 and is not working properly - for one thing, the screen capture area isn't "holding" - so I've uninstalled it and used 1.61 instead, but am still having problems with it, despite checking that the settings are identical in both installations :( Both laptops are running Windows7 Home Premium.
