• Click the Record button
• Navigate to a web page with your video stream and play it in the embedded flash player.
• All .FLV flash video streams broadcasted through the HTTP or RTMP protocol will be downloaded/captured automatically.

Please note that when Jaksta captures packets from flash player (rather than downloads RTMP streams), you need to play an audio/video stream fully to capture it.

I like Replay Media Catcher too.

I also like Jaksta, but the problem with it is that it installs its own drivers and by using them I make my computer potentially vulnerable. I prefer to stay away from software like this even if it is offered by a well-known brand like Sony or Adobe.

Jaksta's ability to detect and record from more sites (Hulu for example) than RMC is probably because of its use of a networking sniffing driver rather than hooking into stack higher up.

Dont forget many of us still have major stability problems with our browsers, bittorrent and other applications when using RMC because of the way RMC hooks!

Using any software has the potential to make your computer vulnerable - a network driver isn't going to make it any more vulnerable - and provided the software has passed antivirus tests (which both Jaksta and RMC have on multiple download sites) and you use s/w like personal firewalls and antivirus it should be reasonably safe. So I guess it comes down to functionality and stability. For me Jaksta is leading at this time.

I don't really know why Hulu can be recorded, but Replay Media Catcher can't record RTMPE streams, doesn't support SWF authentication only because it will violate DMCA. I perfectly know that the developer of RMC is smart enough to record all these streams.

Antivirus software won't reveal anything here. When I allow a network driver to be installed on my computer I allow it to do anything with my computer and firewalls won't be able to detect any hazardous activities. One can use this driver to steal any information from my computer. I repeat even if a well known brand offers such a software I would prefer to stay away from it.

I like Jaksta. Its stream detection is very reliable, its recording ability is very powerful and stable, it never freezes my browsers. That's why it got Editor's choice at all-streaming-media.com I hope it works fine not only on my 2 PCs, but also for many other users. I also hope that I don't take higher risk when using Jaksta.

The streams Jaksta records from Hulu are normal RTMP and not RTMPE and do not have SWF Verification on them. Only the Hulu HD streams are protected in this manner and Jaksta does not record them but is nice enough to at least tell you they are there. Any good developer could be capable of recording RTMPE and SWF Verification as the specifications are in the public domain thanks to the rtmpdump project.

An executable that acts as a root kit is in no way similar to an NDIS packet filter which is what Jaksta uses to sniff packets on the network. It is not hidden from the user. The user is prompted at installation time whether they want to install the driver and it appears when a user views their network drivers. This same driver is also used in many commercial firewall, vpn, antivirus and other networking products. As with most shareware products Jaksta has been put through multiple antivirus tests – downloads.com for example take it very seriously and I have a very satisfied user base.

Jaksta's driver is also signed using a VeriSign issued certificate, meaning there is a directed and certified link back to me as the developer. Companies like VeriSign exist is to prove the identity of software companies and allow users to trust the code signed by one of their certificates. Verisign makes companies bend over backwards to prove they are a valid company, including who the office holders are and they hold many details on record before issuing the keys that can be used to issue a certificate to sign code. Microsoft Vista only allows drivers that have been signed to be installed. I think we can have a high degree of trust that Jaksta's driver is not malicious. If it was doing anything malicious I would end up charged and in jail very quickly.
