Adding subtitles to FLV videos

Hi. I've been looking for a German video to add subtitles to for ages, and I think this Lindenstrasse.de may be useful.

I was wondering, does anyone know how (or what software to use) to convert "xfred" files to avi or mpeg ones, so that I can add the subtitles using "Windows Movie Maker".

I really hope someone can help, thanks in advance.

Regards, Ed

Do you want to create a DVD video? Or any other format will work for you as well?

What kind of subtitles do you want to add? Do you have or want to use files like .SRT?

You may use freeware DVDFlick to convert FLV videos to DVD Video. The program allows you to add subtitles.

If you have an .FLV file and .SRT subtitles that doesn't need to be synchronized, you may just rename .SRT giving it the same filename that .FLV file has and put it into the same directory. Then launch .FLV file with VLC and you should be able to watch .FLV video with subtitles (subtitles should be shown automatically)

Have you tried this on a "live" stream?
VLC is at a workstation, but what about viewing the file over the Internet, from a streaming server?

Wondering if Adobe Flash supports this, too. Doubt it, but now I'm curious.

Sir, I need to thank you for the hint at viewing flv files with subtitles; it's simplicity itself; I was surfing the web looking for a way to do it and that's how I ran across this forum.

I have developed a piece of software that includes, as a part of the program, streaming flv videos from our server. I want to add subtitles to these different videos and was wondering if there was a way to do this without creating different videos for each language. Can I create different subtitle files and have the user choose in a drop down menue which language they would like to use? Thanks in advance.

It is definitely possible. You can find lots of information about XML subtitles used with flash videos.

Thanks, but I am having a hard time finding this information. Do you have a link that you can direct me to?

I have figured out how to get the xml subtitles to work with my software, but now I need a good program for creating the xml. The free ones like magpi are horrible. Any suggestions?
