Downloading mms:// wmv stream (Net Transport - Timeout constantly)

Hi there, I'm new to this downloading streaming content game and I'm having a bit of trouble with an error.

The sniffer doesn't detect it so I used the metafile technique.

I've located the link in the metafile (warning this is a ographic site :) )
mms://38.119.66.251/Prime/s-tp18-01_scene_02_hi.wmv?wmid=10&un=ct&ext=s-tp18&STOKENID=G7g2n4q6wUx4EcAzb2JA5qU02jfFu3us9141 QftDC44Zxb22uluX71YtSkb3RPM5T0QikMY1

I keep getting the following in the NetTransport:
17/08/2006 03:59:46.909 Connecting to 38.119.66.251:1755
17/08/2006 04:00:46.915 Timeout
17/08/2006 04:00:46.915 Wait 10 seconds to retry

I think I haven't set the correct settings somewhere, or is this something else. (The same thing happens in WMRecorder and Streambox VCR).

I've downloaded things before (.asx from bbc.co.uk using metafile, and some .wmvs direct link) but these long string mms ones are giving me problems, and I think it's because I'm not sure about the settings (i.e. referer and URL confuses me).

I'd appreciate some help.

Thanks in advance.

Timestamp in the URL. Don't wait until it expires

Most probably the URL has a timestamp (STOKENID) that expires very fast. You should record from the URL immediately after getting it.

I can't check the URL for you 'coz I don't have an access to this paid web-site.

Firewall may block your connection. Do you have it? If yes, did you allow NetTransport to access MMS URLs?

And can you play it with your Windows Media Player?

p.s.
Do you know that WM Recorder in the ADA or PRO mode can record almost any Windows Media stream your Windows Media Player (even the embedded one) plays?

I do download them immediately, but it still happens.

It's a free site, but I can give you my login details via PM if that'll help you solve it for me?

My firewall isn't blocking it I've checked the logs.

Yep they all stream fine, embedded in the browser, but sometimes streaming can be choppy because of contention on my Internet connection, thats why I want to download them instead.

I tried WMRecorder but it just cycled through each protocol and then went to "Cancelled". This was in ada mode, I don't think I tried PRO mode.

OK PRO mode in WMRecorder seems to be grabbing it when I copy and paste the url into WMP.

Do you have to keep the stream in WMP open or is there a way to get the file direct? The way I've done it before with the metafiles has always given me fast speeds.

And is there any way to get it working via Net Transport, as it's free :D

Thanks again.

This is what happens when I try it in NetTransport:

It doesnt work in Streambox and Replay A/V either. Argh this is driving me nuts now, i've tried adding my username and password into the URL and other things, I really need someone to have a go at this for me.

Thanks again.

WM Recorder is the best stream recorder for password-protected streams

WM Recorder in the PRO mode is IMHO the best way to record password-protected streams.
And in this mode WMRecorder records what your WMP plays, so you can't (you shouldn't ;) ) close the WMP while recording.

As for NetTransport it was free, but it's shareware now (free to try for 90 days).

Try to enter username and password in the properties dialog of NetTransport. It is usually better than just adding them to a URL, 'coz NetTransport supports several types of authentication.

p.s. These two programs are the only ones I can suggest for password-protected-streams.
Try to add username and password in the Properties dialog. It could help. While WM Recorder is highly recommended, NetTransport is just recommended ;)
