Record NBC Flash Video Streams

I am new to this forum so hope I am not asking a question that has been addressed before. Is there a way to record an NBC flash video stream? Here for example is the link to their full episodes of "Life":
Code:

http://www.nbc.com/Life/video/episodes.shtml
I select an episode and it begins to play and is very good quality but is frequently interrupted for buffering. I am on a Verizon basic DSL connection. I would like to be able to record some of these and then play them back later to avoid the starts and stops.

Thanks

I will thanks.

I have HiDownload , URL Helper and turned on Port sniffing but did not find any ‘.FLV’ or ‘.SWF’ URLs even after video began playing. I could not find any such files in my browser cache either. I also have NetTransport but without a stream URL I can’t start a new download – very perplexing!

HiDownload and NetTransport can't download rtmp:// streams.

Orbit Downloader can download RTMP stream, but you should have rtmp:// stream URL for it to record.

Replay Media Catcher and FLV Recorder can record rtmp flash video streams, but they do not reveal the rtmp URLs they find and record from.

I downloaded and installed the trial version of ‘Flv Recorder’ but it also installed ‘WinPcap 4.0’ – is this used by ‘Flv Recorder’?

‘Flv Recorder’ recorded and played back very well but I could not jump around while the ‘.flv’ was playing using the scroll control of the player. It moved OK and reported that it was ‘seeking’ but when I released the mouse button it resumed playing right where it was previously?

Thanks again for your help.

Of course FLV Recorder uses WinPcap. The version of WinPcap coming with the software is always recommended for smooth work.

I'm not sure. Please try other FLV players.

Re: Record NBC Flash Video Streams

FLV Player does indeed record rtmp flash video streams but it is not sturdy. I tried five times to record a stream from nbc.com and each time it ended with the standard windows error message “FlvRecorder MFC Application has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.” After recording between 4 mb and 28 mb. I have 110 gb free space on my hard drive.

I then tried ‘NBC Direct’ but that doesn’t work either. I downloaded and ran ‘NBCDirectInstaller.exe’ but it did not complete. The NET Framework was installed and system re-booted OK but when I went to
www.nbc.com and tried to download a show it reported ‘Player Not Installed’. I re-ran the ‘NBCDirectInstaller.exe’. This time I got a message box that Windows Media Player needs a security update….”. I clicked OK and got the message “Failed to upgrade Microsoft DRM Individualization.’ I then clicked OK (the only options) and got the message “An exception occurred during the Rollback phase of the installation…” and that was the end of that. I am running Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 and Windows Media Player 10 which meets all of the ‘NBC Direct’ requirements.

FLV Recorder and Replay Media Catcher are the only programs I know that can record rtmp streams.

FLV Recorder has better recording idea 'coz it captures packets coming to your flash player. But I recommend Replay Media Catcher instead, because it is much more reliable for me, besides its support is great.

It is more like a question to NBC. You can upgrade your PC using Windows Update or from update.microsoft.com.

Just select everything related to Windows Media Player and Windows Media Framework and your system must be fine with NBC.

Many content providers force you to upgrade Windows so that DRM removal software stop working. It is intended to be used with legally purchased files anyway.
