restreaming RTSP Windows Media audio stream from www.z100.com

Hi, nice site.

I'm trying to restream or find a way to stream the the audio from
Code:

www.z100.com
. It seems like the stream is protected. I don't want to record as I'd like to play it realtime through my cell phone.
The RTSP address is:
Code:

rtsp://a670.l1997219770.c19972.g.lm.akamaistream.net/D/670/19972/v0001/reflector:19770?auth=caEaPdCbUaFbXbXbCbbcncDa6afcab3aVdK-bhahjt-4q-MO5W6_2ouEJou2DCqlErEp&aifp=1234&CPROG=SIMULCAST&MARKET=NEWYORK-NY&MNM=2&NG_FORMAT=chr&NG_ID=whtz100fm&OR_NEWSFORMAT=&RVN_TZ=-5&SERVER_NAME=wwwz100com&SITE_ID=1793&STATION_ID=WHTZ-FM
I guess the auth code is only valid for a short period of time and only through WM. I tried to capture it with VLC but couldn't. It won't stream through Windows mobile 5 wmp. I'm at a loss here.
Any help is appreciated
Thanks!

I am not really an expert in stream broadcasting.

The stream URL you posted had a timestamp that expired after a shord period of time, so I wasn't able to play it.

IMHO the best way to restream this audio stream is by VLC. It doesn't work with this stream so you should keep bugging the developers.

WM Recorder is the best Windows Media stream recorder. It shouldn't have problem with streams likes this using authentication, 'coz in the PRO mode it can capture packets coming to your Windows Media Player. The problem is that it can't re-stream anything.

I tried HD radio at z100.com and found mms:// URLs with URL Snooper.

You may also try to change rtsp:// onto mms://. It might work better with VLC.

switching the rtsp to mms worked for some time, but I opened the stream in vlc before closing my browser which had the stream playing as well on mute. Seems I just got lucky, and my browser was merely providing the authentication. Anyways: long story short --> Closing the browser and later closing vlc and then re-opening later, I was no longer able to stream. Seems as though some extra authentication is being passed back and forth, hopefully a way to fool the server can be found -.-

Re: restreaming RTSP Windows Media audio stream from www.z100.com

here's the problem: everytime you load the stream from a browser you get a new and unique "auth" -->
Code:

rtsp://a670.l1997219770.c19972.g.lm.akamaistream.net/D/670/19972/v0001/reflector:19770?auth=caEcmcEctd_dMcCajbVcAc.cpd0clcybKbQ-bjwXXY-4q-NNXX9_4qtFInv2JCtlxtBs&aifp=1234&CPROG=SIMULCAST&MARKET=NEWYORK-NY&MNM=2&NG_FORMAT=chr&NG_ID=whtz100fm&OR_NEWSFORMAT=&REQUESTOR=WHTZ-FM&SERVER_NAME=wwwz100com&SITE_ID=1793&STATION_ID=WHTZ-FM
As long as the browser is playing the stream, that "auth" is good. and you are free to open it in vlc using mms, or w/e you want to do. But after all "sessions" (be it via vlc or a browser) are closed/ended, that auth code expires. So the main problem is that the "actual" address is dynamic/ever changing. Still investigating how there "auth"s are generated. But it sounds like it is generated from the z100 site, and then pushed over to have the streaming server unlock that code. Will reply if I ever find a way around "dynamic" streams.

When you see streams with authentication, you should always use the URLs before they expire. And you can always capture packets from Windows Media Player using WM Recorder or freeware WebVideoCap.

The auth code is generated on the server side, so I see no sense to research anything about it.
