Removing DRM From Barnes and Noble ebooks

A friend gave me a B&N gift card. If I buy ebooks can I remove the DRM using calibre and plugins if I buy with the gift card and don't have a charge card in a barnes and noble account . Do I put the gift card # in rather than a CC #? Thanks in advance.

Re: Removing DRM From Barnes and Noble ebooks

A Barnes and Noble account requires a credit card to operate. It's part of their publishers' DRM scheme. Without a valid credit card, you cannot purchase or download any books, not even free ones. So, if you have a Gift card on the account with a million dollars on it, unless you also have a credit card on the account, the account will not "work".

Re: Removing DRM From Barnes and Noble ebooks

I have had a different experience.
I also had a gift card for a Barnes and Noble ebook.
However, in my case I obtained the ebook from a webpage called Chapters Indigo, which sells Barnes and Noble ebooks in the epub format.

I entered two numbers listed on my Chapters Indigo gift card, as well as my address, and I was able to download the ebook without providing my name or credit card information.
