Recording Media according to time code or time

 

Hi Guys,
i would like your valued feedback, on how would i go about recording a stream. ( I guess ffmpeg,ffserver,rtmpdump)

But how would i automate the process according to time, so that the clips i record would be ready for re-stream or VOD?

Is there a way to automate this, i am thinking cron or some kind of scheduled event. But how would i stop the recording and write out the file?

Please do help?

If i want to setup a VOD service, is there any open source server i can use?
