record xbox gameplay through splitter?

I play my xbox with an HDMI cable, i've been trying to research into if i split the HDMI signal into an analog signal, then use the dazzle to record the videos onto my laptop, if it would work. Since, they do have splitters that will allow the digital input, to be put into a analog output. No one yet has an answer to this question, and i don't want to downgrade and use component video. Or spend the money and realize it don't work and be out $100...

The set-up will be like so: Xbox HDMI out to amped splitter, cable to tv, and cable to HDMI to RCA splitter, to dazzle, to laptop.

Forgot to add, that i don't have a nice desktop to just use the pci capture cards, so, i'm stuck with doing it on a laptop.
