Record MP3 audio HTTP stream from Adobe (Macromedia/Shockwave) Flash Player

 

Hi,

I'm a newbie to all of this so please forgive my ignorance.

I want to be able to capture a radio programme that is currently available as a stream. As some (or all) or you may know, its not ideal to sit in front of your computer just to be able to hear a radio show.

In particular its this stream that I want to "save", I think its provided by streamtheworld (but not sure)...

So my question is...Is there any way I can "grab" this stream and convert it to MP3 so that I can play it on my MP3 player?

I've seen some software around like Replay AV8, RadioTracker, Magix WebRadio Deluxe, X-oom MP3 Internet Radio Recorder. Will anyone of these do it? Do I have to click "play" on the stream and sit around for an hour to "record" the stream or do the software packages above do it by someother method?

Finally, these packages claim they can have a list of thousands of radio stations that their service is compatible with, how do I know the station that I want to record streams from is on their lists ie. the URL above ^

They use Adobe Flash Player so the first software I tried to record the stream was Replay Media Catcher. It appeared to be an MP3 audio stream:
and Replay Media Catcher saved it to harddisk without any problem.

Usually I start recording from searching for the URL. Because Replay Media Catcher and
WM Recorder can cover more than 90% of the most popular media streams I run them both. Both programs are shareware, but you may use them for free to get stream URLs.

You may also use a URL Finder. It can be a URL finder that is built-in into the stream recorder like Replay A/V or you may use freeware URL Snooper.

To record any media stream:
1. Run a URL finder.
2. Play your stream.
3. Find the URL
3. Record with a stream recorder (note that stream recording software like Replay Media Catcher and
WM Recorder can automatically record streamable content).

Returning to neighbourhoodmechanic.ca. I wasn't able to find the stream URL with Project URL Snooper, WM Recorder and Replay A/V. I'll do some research to know why.

It is weird that I didn't manage to get the MP3 file from the browser cache. It is not an RTMP stream, regular HTTP protocol is used.

WM Recorder, Replay A/V and NetTransport had no any problem recording the stream. It seems like any download manager can download it as well.

The only problem is getting URL. Maybe WM Recorder, Replay A/V and URL Snooper didn't work with my network adapter only. Please try them.

So Replay A/V is OK for me to use with this stream, but I gather that I can just paste the URL...

...and that will enable me to save it once its loaded.

I'm a bit confused over which package I should buy. Look at Applian's website I'm not sure whether Replay AV would suit my needs best or Replay Media Catcher. Which do you recommend, AV or Media Catcher?

By the way, do you know if its possible to install any of these apps on to a USB memory stick? Has this been done before?

If they don't change the URL, you can create a new show in Replay A/V, paste the URL in it and download it instanly or schedule its say weekly recording.

For this web-site you may use anything. You may download it even with your browser. Although the download can be accelerated with download managers and stream recorders. But some free download managers will be able to download this stream for you on schedule (if the URL is persistent).

You can buy Replay A/V or Replay Media Catcher only if you need some other streams to be recorded!
And you can even buy them both whether separatly or in the Audio Video Streaming Capture Suite

Replay Media Catcher is a unique software that can capture previously unrecordable RTMP streams from Adobe Flash Player. Some of such streams can be found on the following page: Web-sites with streamable Flash video and audio. Do you really need to record them? If so then it is a good purchase.

Replay A/V on the other hand can record streaming audio/video files from Windows Media Player, Real Player, QuickTime Player (HTTP streams only), Adobe Flash Player (HTTP streams only). It can also record from Shoutcast MP3 radio stations automatically splitting and tagging MP3 songs. It can record from other sources as well and it has many pleasant features such as scheduling.

Bottom line: For this stream solely IMHO you don't need any of these programs. In other cases it depends on you what kind of streams you need to record. If you record a lot then Audio Video Streaming Capture Suite might be a good choice.

I don't think there will be any problem installing it on a USB Memory Stick, but I don't think they will work on another PC from it.

Besides frequent file writing (such as writing log files) is not good for any Flash drive unless you don't wanna kill it fast.

I pasted the mp3 URL into my browser and it started downloading immediatly, so I guess I can save some cash and do it that way.
