The best video stream recorder, stream downloader, stream ripper, stream capture soft

  • Replay Media Catcher is one of the best streaming audio/video downloaders. It can download flash .FLV video and .MP3 audio streams played by Adobe Flash Player. It supports HTTP and RTMP protocols.

Replay Media Catcher can download/rip flash video streams. It can also download/rip MP3 music streams from Pandora, Last.fm, , Radio Blog Club, Finetune, IMEEM. Replay Media Catcher features AUTOMATIC naming – it can figure out the names of most captured .MP3 song files and .FLV videos from the POPULAR web sites.

Also Replay Media Catcher uses SPECIAL technology that allows you to split songs, tag them with the artist and song title automatically. With Replay Media Catcher you can download / rip / save PERFECT reproductions of MP3 songs from web-sites like Pandora, Last.fm, FineTune!

Besides flash video and MP3 audio streams, Replay Media Catcher can download / rip some Windows Media, Real Audio/Video streams.

Plus you can upgrade to Replay Capture Suite or just buy Replay Media Catcher as a part of it.

Replay Capture Suite includes the following software:
    • Replay Media Catcher - audio/video stream ripper.
    • Replay A/V - audio/video stream recorder and ripper, Sirius and XM Radio recorder. Supports scheduling.
    • Replay Video Capture - one-click audio/video screen capturing software (allows to record anything from your screen)
    • Replay Music - unique audio recording software that can record any sound produced by your sound card splitting and tagging songs automatically.
    • Replay Telecorder for Skype - Skype recorder that allows to capture Skype phone calls, Skype video chats, Skype conference calls and Skype Voice Mail digitally
    • Video Padlock - software for keeping your videos secure

  • Also I recommend WM Recorder (Shareware/Windows) stream capture software for recording Flash video, Windows Media and Real Video streams.
WM Recorder is very unique. In the PRO mode it can capture packets coming to your Windows Media Player and Real Player. WM Recorder can record more Windows Media and Real Media streams than any other stream ripping/capturing software available on the market. And its new Loopback recorder allows to download and capture flash video streams (HTTP and RTMP). Besides it can record password-protected streams.

  • Another software that can capture packet coming to your Windows Media Player is freeware WebVideoCap.

  • Freeware rtmpdump (with rtmpsrv and rtmpsuck on Linux, and with RTMPexplorer on Windows), shareware GetFLV and TubeDigger - flash video stream downloaders and recorders allowing to download/capture RTMP and secure RTMPE streams with SWF verification. These programs can download videos from Hulu, Comedy Central, 4OD, MTV, VH1, ITV, Comedy Central, CBS, secure videos from Youtube, ....

  • Other recording software I prefer to use:
    • Replay A/V - primarily to make scheduled recording and downloading from online radio stations (although it support many formats and protocols).
    • StreamRipper to rip Shoutcast/Icecast .MP3, .AAC and .OGG streams (automatical song splitting and tagging supported), Nullsoft .NSV Streaming Video. These streams are sometimes called iTunes radio stations and Winamp TV.
    • HiDownload to record p2p Internet TV programs
    • HiDownload and MovRecorder to record QuickTime streams through the RTSP protocol

Sometimes I also use VLC, MPlayer and NetTransport.

It is also worth mentioning Replay Music - unique direct sound recording software that can record any sound produced by your sound card splitting and tagging songs automatically. As you have already noticed, Replay Music is not a video recorder, but it can be purchased as a part of Audio Video Streaming Capture Suite.

If you prefer to use other software like NetTransport, Rip Tiger, HiDownload, Mass Downloader, Offline Explorer, or any other stream capturing / downloading software please don't hesitate to tell us!

And please participate in the poll to help others to choose the best stream capturing / downloading software. No matter how experienced you are, your voice it very important for us!

I use Jaksta at the moment. When Any FLV Downloader (soon to be named BiteCopy) has its current issues fixed and automatic url sniffing added, I'll use that instead.

LOL If you compare download managers that can record streaming audio and video, Internet Download Manager (IDM) is not even close to NetTransport.

I've refrained from voting before but finally did just now.

It's pretty tough to define "best" when there are gaps in each programs' functionality. Also your platform makes a difference, Windows vs anything else. If you're on Windows, you can take your pick of countless programs and probably all of them work about as well as any other. On other platforms, the number of choices is a lot smaller.
Factor in RTMPE+SWF verification on non-Windows machines, and suddenly there is no choice at all, "best" becomes irrelevant...

TuneBite and other products from Audibles - are series of streaming media programs. I have not used them much, but they do have two advantages.

You can install them either to the hard drive or to a flash drive, and they are free. Ok, they are bannerware, a bit heavier on the sales pitch than I like. I have not had enough time to learn just how good they are, so go ahead and try them out.

Re: The best video stream recorder, stream downloader, stream ripper, stream capture

Sorry bobklahn,

but I have not that good opinion about TuneBite. It is the most system pollution generating program I have ever seen. It installs about 10 drivers and a suspicious codec pack in a separate folder in Program Files and all these are left in the system after removing Tunebite and you have to manually clean your system and remove Tunebite drivers one by one using Device Manager.

Thanks.

If you're considering Jaksta, take a look at Replay Media Catcher 4. It has the same functionality plus some extended features. Another advantage is that it can be bought as a part of Replay Capture Suite.

Re: The best video stream recorder, stream downloader, stream ripper, stream capture

Thanks, I already have Jaksta and very content with it.

The only flaw is certain RTMPE streams that it won't record & that problem seems to exist in RMC4

GetFLV records the first part of the RTMPE - then just crashes...

:(

Install Linux like Ubuntu and use rtmpsuck. Ubuntu is awesome; many people don't want to use Windows anymore after trying it. And rtmpsuck allows to download RTMP/RTMPE streams automatically. rtmpsuck is not ideal, but I haven't tried anything better than it yet.

The program requires Windows 7 / Vista / XP , and won't run on Windows 9x. The best RTMP / RTMPE downloader for Windows 98/98SE/ME is RTMPDUMP / RTMPSRV version 2.1d :-

My choice to grab streams off the net is WM Recorder Bonus Bundle. I have had problems with some of the others but this one seems to work well for me. It is also very easy to convert the file to whatever I need it to be.

the poll isn't uptodate anymore, as of recent. All of you will have noticed and some of you have suspected correctly: Replay Media Catcher 4 (RMC4) is a very different product from RMC3 (Applian's Replay Media Catcher v3.x); and at the same time Jaksta and RMC4 appear twins and even bear identical version numbering (e.g. v4.0.12.0). It is confirmed info (open secret) that Jaksta and RMC4 are, nowadays, developed by the same partnering company of the Applian group. And Applian itself did in fact stop the continuation of the v3.x product line.

Many people do not know Jaksta ("jaksta? who?? what? wtf??") but when they use the current version of the popular Replay Media Catcher product, which is still distributed and supported by Applian, they are actually using a Jaksta clone. Also check out the amusing video on the homepage of Jaksta: it's like Lenovo stating "Our 2010 Lenovo Thinkpad-like products are 3x better than the competition" and showing pics of old 2004 IBM Thinkpad products. Knowing that Lenovo acquired the entire IBM PC business section in 2005 would make you smile about such a statement :p

To be fair and give Jaksta a chance, the poll should reflect their twin/clone behaviour:

instead of
+ Replay Media Catcher
+ Jaksta

it should read
+ Replay Media Catcher 3.x product series (Applian)
+ Replay Media Catcher 4.x / Jaksta 4.0+

or simply
+ Replay Media Catcher 3 (discont'd)
+ Replay Media Catcher / Jaksta

i.e. both Jaksta 4 and RMC4 lovers use the same vote button, whereas those to still use (because they prefer so) RMC3 have their own vote button.

Thank you very much for your notice! I can definitely notice that you have lots of experience with the tools. It is nice to see members like you in the forum.

Re: The best video stream recorder, stream downloader, stream ripper, stream capture

let's note that:
  • getflv.net (111.90.134.4, Malaysia(MY)) is registered by "Terry Backer" <contact@superlogix.net> (shanghai, China).
  • hulu-downloader.com (110.4.45.98, Malaysia(MY)) is registered by "terry backer" <superlogix@gmail.com> (shanghai, China).
  • superlogix.net (67.19.132.141, Texas, United States(US)) is registered by "jiangnan, li" <contact@superlogix.net> (Liaoning, China).
"Terry Backer" owns about 20 other domains.

Comparing GetFLV with Hulu Downloader, there is no doubt that they both are essentially the same tool coded by the same software programmer. We have observed a similar thing with StreamTransport and its commercial variants. Is all this important info? Nope. Is it somewhat interesting nonetheless? Yep.

Re: The best video stream recorder, stream downloader, stream ripper, stream capture

I personally think there is no the best tool, just have the tool which is suitable for you. Because I have tried several tools which claim that they are the best tools, while I failed to record streaming videos fluently. Recently, I tried Replay Capture Suite, though it can’t be regarded as the best tool, at least I can download and record videos smoothly.

You can also use Video DownloadHelper for downloading some HTTP streams, RealPlayer for HTTP and RTSP, MMS streams, VLC player, MPlayer, command line get-flash-videos. IMHO Jaksta for Mac is the best streaming audio/video downloader for Mac OS X.

Re: The best video stream recorder, stream downloader, stream ripper, stream capture

Internet Download Manager [IDM] is a rather surprising stream downloader. Originally devised as download manager (pretty pesky and obtrusive) it can also download RMTP (but not RTMPT, RTMPE, ..) url's with no further parameters supplied.

When Replay Media Catcher 4, WM Recorder, HiDownload, NetTransport fail to download simple RMTP url's (and you dont want to bother about RTMPDUMP :D ), e.g. when the test webpage url is unknown, then try IDM. Simply add the url in "Add new download" and give it a try.

IDM needs to be added in the above list, the poll!!

Dear ANONYMOUS :)

thanks, I added Internet Download Manager to the poll, right you are. When a webpage contains video material, IDM alerts the user and offers a "download link", similar to mig's famous Video DownloadHelper[VDH]. This means IDM is a process running permanently in the background and watching webpages and video links; i dont appreciate that. IMHO she intervenes too often and cant keep her mouth shut . Obnoxious lady she is.
But it is good to know that a tool exists which can download for example rtmp:// url's without further download parameters. So whoever doesnt want to put up with FREE command line tools (rtmpdump.exe, rtmpsusk.exe,..), get IDM, it is FREE to try! :D

You can do the same with Replay Media Catcher 4 (Tools -> Download), Jaksta, NetTransport, freeware Blader, VLC, ...

Internet Download Manager fails too often for me to recommend it as a streaming video recorder.

I don't see it listed on the list but can anyone tell me if LiteCam HD produces higher quality recording than WM Recorder 16 if using a lossless codec like Lagarith? I want to know which would provide the best quality if choosing to burn to bluray disc.
