get stream URL and record Windows Media or Real Video stream

First of all before using any stream recorder you need to get a stream URL
(you may skip this step when using WM Recorder and RM Recorder). To
find the URL use Packet Sniffer and URL Snooper software like free
Project URL Snooper (some stream recorders like WM Recorder, RM Recorder, Replay AV, GetAsfStream have a build-in URL finder).

Just play your stream and get the URL with any URL Snooper software.

After that you may use any stream recorder supporting Window Media or Real Video streams. All stream recorders are free or free to try.

I haven't checked the protocols used and whether DRM protection is used here 'coz this stream is available to users within the UK only.

Windows Media stream recorders are generally more reliable so I suggest you to use them. WM Recorder is the best Windows Media stream recorder.

record video stream from bbc or channel 4

I use ar wizard for audio Audio Record Wizard to record from streaming sources such as bbc.co.uk to Mp3 for my personal use, in the car etc it is incredibly simple and reliable and great quality.

I want to save videos from either bbc or channel 4 to watch later.
They are uk TV stations that stream the last 7 days tv for catch up purposes. You can stream or download but the download is time limited to 7 days. This is great but there are times when i miss the window and could do with saving them for later.

I don't know what format the downloads are but is there any video recording software that can save what plays on the screen?
thanks

Re: record video stream from bbc or channel 4

Instead of Audio Record Wizard you can use free direct sound recording software.

I record "The Click" TV show from BBC. BBC offers this TV show in two formats: Windows Media streaming video as well as Real streaming videos. Windows Media streams are easier to capture, besides you can even use a freeware streaming media recorder. Although I prefer to record videos streams from BBC with commercial WM Recorder or NetTransport.

I don't have any access to channel 4 streaming videos, so I can't help you with it. But you can always test free trial versions of streaming media recorders. WM Recorder + Replay Media Catcher cover most of the recordable stream formats available.

I don't really know whether all the videos at channel 4 are available on the "Download to own" basis. But may be you can buy all the videos you really like.

They have some videos with rental licenses, but i don't know the format of such files as well, besides it is illegal to remove copy-protection from rented files.

You can use screen video capture software to record anything from your screen. In many cases alternative software like streaming media recorders will give you better quality and/or smaller files.

Re: record video stream from bbc or channel 4

Thanks for the advice and help

I plan to look at Replay ScreenCast and WM Recorder, I am always happy to pay for shareware that does the job.

I have Arwizard so well setup that i am happy to stick with it for the audio streams. However the links to the mp3 editors are welcome

thank you

BBC / BBC iPlayer : Can't download rtmp:// streams anymore?

Hi guys, I'm pretty new to this but I have tried everything I can to record from the BBC website, not the BBC iPlayer but the embedded media. eg http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/zanelowe/ there is a video of the Verve, how can I record this? I have tried WM Recorder and lots of others without success. Any help gratefully accepted!

Re: Recording from BBC website.

It is a flash video stream
Code:

cp50563.edgefcs.net&identifier=radio1/bigweekend/2008/flv/zanelowe/verve
It is available in the UK only.

Try to record it with the latest version of Replay Media Catcher, WM Recorder or other Flash stream recorder.

Re: Recording from BBC website.

Thanks for your help. I'm still having a few problems. I'm using WM Recorder 12 but when I add the URL above I get a pop up: Invalid URL etc, if I precede the URL with http:// I get the download window but it soon cancels. Is the protocol correct that I'm using? Oh, and how did you find out the URL of the video??

Many thanks.

BBC iPlayer downloader: How to download .MOV/.MP4 videos from BBC iPlayer

BBC launched an iPhone-specific version of their streaming iPlayer service in March 2008. Because iPhone does not support Windows Media and Flash video, this version of iPlayer service uses h.264 .MP4 video files.

By pretending to be an iPhone, it is possible to download the MP4 files for offline viewing. Although BBC repeats attempts to prevent this.

Re: BBC iPlayer downloader: How to download .MOV/.MP4 videos from BBC iPlayer

iPlayer Downloader (Mac OS X) is a freeware open source download client, allowing users of the BBC's iPlayer service to download DRM-free TV programs from Mac OS X.
iPlayer Downloader is NOT associated with the BBC in any way.

Re: BBC iPlayer downloader: How to download .MOV/.MP4 videos from BBC iPlayer

iPlayer Downloader (Windows GUI)

iPod Downloader - is a couple of programs: one command-line utility, and one Windows GUI application - to make it easy to download programmes. The developer continues to update them to add new features and to work around BBC countermeasures, so check back the web-site often.

Download iPlayer Downloader (Windows GUI)

There’s no installer or anything: just run it from wherever you like.

Type a programme ID or URL into the box, press download, and you’ll be asked where to save the file. Where possible, this will be pre-filled with the name of the programme

Once you click OK, the download will begin:

Find URL of BBC flash video (Recording music video stream from BBC Media Player)

hi there

please excusez moi for this being a stupid question but I have been trying to download a certain video from BBC for several days with no luck. I have to admit, until a week ago I did not even know this is possible but I have built up some knowledge over the past days:cool: (I am a girl)

Here is the video I would like to save on my laptop:

Code:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/event/takethat/index.shtml
My problem at the moment is that I cannot even find the exact URL of this video. I have used URL Snooper and it gave me one which pretty much looked like the right one but it wouldnt work.

Can anyone please tell me what options I have to find out this URL? Or even better: can anyone tell me what the URL is?:o

You will get a kiss in return - whatever the answer is :)

But you can install Bootcamp or Parallels Desktop for Max OS X and use Replay Media Catcher for Windows on your Mac computer.

Re: BBC iPlayer downloader: How to download .MOV/.MP4 videos from BBC iPlayer

Another means of recording BBC iPlayer shows is to download them from the BBC's "Listen Again" service using the program get_iplayer

You'll find there various versions of that program, to run on Windows 95/98/ME/XP or Linux/Unix or Mac OSX. It also runs (as a Perl script) on any O/S that is running ActivePerl.

Unlike iPlayer Downloader, the get_iplayer program is not limited to the Windows XP/Vista platforms.

Re get_iPlayer

I have tried to download the DEB package on the said website, but on attempting to install it, get a message that it is corrupt. I also tried installing the package with similar results.

There seems to be no way of contacting the site owner. Any ideas?

Using Ubuntu Hardy Heron LTS.

BBC / BBC iPlayer : Can't download rtmp:// streams anymore?

Your media player doesn't support video downloaded from BBC iPlayer? You don't want to use download BBC iPlayer videos with bloated BBC Download manager? Your operating system is not supported by BBC iPlayer?

Now you can download BBC iPlayer videos with freeware open-source command line utility get_iplayer. It is compatible with Linux, Mac OS, and Windows.

get_iplayer allows to download and save DRM-free videos from BBC iPlayer.

Please delete delete the downloaded videos after 30 days, as the rules of BBC iPlayer say. And NEVER share downloaded videos with others, because it is illegal!

Please note that if you want to download higher quality versions of BBC iPlayer videos, you need to wait about a day.

How to download BBC iPlayer videos with freeware get_iplayer:
  1. Open the Terminal (command line).
  2. Type
    Code:

    get_iplayer -f
    to update the records.
  3. Type
    Code:

    get_iplayer -g tv_program_name
to download the select TV program

In Linux you can also type
    Code:

    get_iplayer -f | grep tv_program_name
to get the ID of the TV program (with the name tv_program_name)
then use the received ID to download the video. For example:
    Code:

    get_iplayer -g 777
will download TV program with ID 777.

Replay Media Catcher can't download RTMP streams using SWF verification anymore:
http://www.applian.com/replay-media-...p-measures.php

Note that many streams on BBC don't use SWF verification, so you can download them with Replay Media Catcher. And Replay Media Catcher 4 allows you to capture RTMP packets (go to Tools -> Settings -> RTMP Download Tweaks and set RMC to always record RTMP streams instead of downloading), so you can capture RTMP streams from BBC in real time.

You can also use Jaksta in the recording mode, Orbit Grab Pro, RTMPdump (or software using it like get_iplayer), StreamTransport.

bbc.co.uk: Recording/capturing/downloading/ripping video from BBC iPlayer

Hi,

I'm trying to rip video from the BBC Learning Zone site.

An example of a video I'm trying to rip is http://www.bbc.co.uk/learningzone/cl...owth/1575.html

I've used RTMPDump before but can't figure out the parameters for the clips on this site.

Orbit doesn't work too.

There is a way to remove the DRM from clips saved in BBC iPlayer, but these clips aren't available on the standard iPlayer site.

Can anyone give me help with this? Or at least let me know if its not possible, maybe the best approach will be some type of screen recording?

Thanks

Re: Recording video from BBC Learning Zone

I can't play the stream, but if you click onto video options, you will be able to get direct links to videos:

You can copy-paste such links into the address bar of your web-browser. Or you can use them with your favorite download manager.

Re: Recording video from BBC Learning Zone

Hi guys,

Thanks for these replies.

I tried GetFLV but it doesn't work for some reason. It picks up the rtmpe address and I can attempt a download but the file just sits in the download queue. There are no messages explaining why the download isn't working.

The addresses on the right work to stream the video, but when I use them with orbit they just download as a link to the video online.

GetFLV did give me the rtmpe address which I tried to use with RTMPdump. The address is:

There is a lot of info here about downloading using rtmpdump but I'm afraid I don't understand it. I know I need to get parameters for the command line but I can't figure out what they should be. Can anyone help me with that?

Also, I am using Windows 7 64bit and I have to go through a proxy server to view the videos as I am not in the UK. I am using Identity Cloaker which is working great but I'm not sure if network traffic from the command line is routing through it. Is there another parameter in rtmpdump I need to use for a proxy?

Thanks for all the help so far.

Hi,

I've an update on this and it seems I've made progress.

I found instructions for downloading video from bbc using rtmpdump here - http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/bridip/clitheroe/iplayer.htm

This seems to work, but I'm getting disconnected when I try to download.

I think the reason is that rtmpdump is not using the uk proxy I have setup. Is there anyway to make rtmp go through this proxy?

Here's the command I am using to try and download ths particular video -

Quote:

rtmpdump -r "rtmp://cp54782.edgefcs.net:1935/ondemand?_fcs_vhost=cp54782.edgefcs.net&auth=dbEdp bUcQdcaJcvcWdvbwbLdWcydZaabCap-bmjzMX-c0-d0i_-GorFCqynKDoGvzD&aifp=v001&slist=secure/s_geog/s_geog_ec_01835_16x9_bb" --tcUrl "rtmp://cp54782.edgefcs.net:80/ondemand?_fcs_vhost=cp54782.edgefcs.net&auth=dbEdp bUcQdcaJcvcWdvbwbLdWcydZaabCap-bmjzMX-c0-d0i_-GorFCqynKDoGvzD&aifp=v001&slist=secure/s_geog/s_geog_ec_01835_16x9_bb" --app "ondemand?_fcs_vhost=cp54782.edgefcs.net&auth=dbEd pbUcQdcaJcvcWdvbwbLdWcydZaabCap-bmjzMX-c0-d0i_-GorFCqynKDoGvzD&aifp=v001&slist=secure/s_geog/s_geog_ec_01835_16x9_bb" --auth "dbEdpbUcQdcaJcvcWdvbwbLdWcydZaabCap-bmjzMX-c0-d0i_-GorFCqynKDoGvzD"-W "http://www.bbc.co.uk/emp/9player.swf?revision=18182_20020" -o output.flv
If anyone knows a way to get rtmpdump to use the proxy then I think I'll be all set with this.

All the best,
John

You can also use other RTMPE recorders. There are GUI programs for Windows that are easier to use then command line utilities.

If you use Linux, try rtmpsuck or rtmpsrv.

RTFM. There is a specific option for using a SOCKS4 proxy. No other proxying is supported.

Agreed.

The only reason I maintain rtmpdump is because it's the only available solution on Linux/Unix. if you're on Windows you have plenty of other choices, and you should probably use them instead. Especially if you're not proficient with command line tools; in that case please don't use rtmpdump.

Hi,

Just an update.

I think I'm using the latest version of GetFLV but it doesn't work for me with this site.

I had RTFM(bit rude, don't get out much?) but either hadn't understood the M or just didn't RTF it properly.

StreamTransport does the job. It goes through the proxy and downloads the vids from this site and any other I try.

Thanks for all the help.

Re: BBC iPlayer downloader: How to download .MOV/.MP4 videos from BBC iPlayer

If I might just clarify, with a word or two of explanation.

The owner of linuxcentre.net (Phil, in fact) decided not to continue development of his get_iplayer.pl Perl script. This was due to a change in policy at the BBC, who decided to use open source code in their iPlayer project, but then hypocritically refused to allow other people to treat the iPlayer as an open source project!

As a result of Phil's decision, the existing get_iplayer scripts all failed, because those which were sufficiently up-to-date to cope with the recent changes in the BBC's iPlayer code relied upon being able to "phone home", but Phil's site was no longer able to reply, he having shut down all his site's functions and removed everything except a few random Help pages.

It was therefore necessary to make a certain change to the last release version of Phil's get_iplayer script, to stop it phoning home. This encouraged a new developer to take up the challenge, and release a slightly revised perl script which included this alteration. The revised version does not "phone home" at all.

The new developer is now releasing occasional updates to the script to keep it functioning. His site is http://github.com/jjl/get_iplayer but it is NOT a mirror. It is a site for the new, revised versions of the get_iplayer script.

Issues with BBC iPlayer: Can't download rtmp:// streams anymore

I've been using Replay Media Catcher 3.11 for a year, mainly for radio downloads. When trying to download
Code:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00x3yjn/Word_of_Mouth_04_01_2011/
I have the following issue :
--------------
Internal error while trying to download RTMP stream
Exception:
m_nErrType = 15
m_strDesc = "SWF Verification detected -- Sorry, these RTMP connections are not allowed to be analyzed."
m_strFile = F:\proj32\TestRTMPClient\RTMPStreamRip.cpp
m_nLineNumber = 899
--------------

I've tried a few other TV and radio programs at random and am getting the same result, although strangely enough I had no trouble capturing the clips from here:
Code:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00d3cwq
Interestingly, the freeware program Radio Downloader still works perfectly so I can get the episode of Word Of Mouth (and plenty more besides) with that, but I'd much rather use RMC! StreamTransport also works, but only in real time rather than rapidly downloading so is no use for this particular purpose.

Re: Issues with BBC iPlayer: Can't download rtmp:// streams anymore

I don't have any solution for Replay Media Catcher (RMC) 3.11.

RMC 4 allows to record BBC streams in the RTMP recording mode. It does it in real time and you need to have your web-browser open.

WM Recorder 14.8 works just fine with BBC streams in the WMX mode. And the Loopback Stream Recorder that comes with it, works fine for me in the Download mode. It works very fast and allows to download 30-180 minute streams in a dozen of seconds.

Blader works fine with BBC streams as well. It works fast.

And I didn't have any problem downloading rtmp streams from BBC with rtmpdump. It works fast as well. See the following thread for more:

I was having the exact same problem after quite happily using Replay Media Catcher for ages but switching to Blader has fixed it - thanks very much!

However, possibly due to stupidity on my part, I'm having problems with broadcasts that are longer than 60 minutes. In RMC it said to untick the "Enable Super Download" option to fix this and it just downloaded the broadcast in realtime mode. Is there a similar setting in Blader? I've done a few searches and can't find any information on it.

I only know that WM Recorder can handle the 60-minute limit perfectly. But I don't really know what is causing it and how exactly WMR handles it.
