Download DRM Tools ArchiveDRM Tools Archive contains all the scripts (except ineptpdf.py) and applications mentioned in the Dark Reverser’s blog & Aprentice Alf's blog.
DRM Tools are open source? How can I be sure it’s safe and not a trojan horse? All the DRM removal tools here are scripts of one kind or another: Python, Applescript or Windows Batch files. So they are inherently open source, and open to inspection by everyone who downloads them. The one piece of compiled code is the progress bar for the DeDRM AppleScript, and the source for that is included in the DeDRM AppleScript package. The download links just give me .php files, not .7z, .zip, .rar files. What’s wrong? You’re using some kind of “fast download” plugin with your browser. Turn it off and the downloads will work properly. I have an old encrypted PDF file that won’t open in Adobe Digital Editions, how can I remove the DRM? If your PDF ebooks cannot be read in Adobe Digital Editions, the tools here cannot help. They are probably encrypted using the Content Server 3 (or earlier) methods which Adobe no longer support, not even to allow conversion to Content Server 4 (AKA Adobe Digital Editions). See _http://www.adobe.com/products/contentserver/migrate.html for more details. Adobe only allowed a nine month window (March-December 2009) for migration to Adobe Digital Editions after the Content Server 3 servers were discontinued. You might be able to find tools to remove the DRM from other sites, but there are several different old encryption schemes for PDF files, and Aprenitce Alf is not unfamiliar with them. Tetrachroma’s blog might be a good starting point for Windows users, as he’s done a lot of work on some PDF DRM scheme called “File Open”. What ebooks do DRM Tools scripts work on? There are six main ebook formats.
There are seven main DRM schemes currently in use.
The scripts linked from here remove DRM from PDF, EPUB, eReader, Mobipocket and Topaz format ebooks using Adobe Adept, Barnes & Noble, Amazon and eReader DRM schemes. Microsoft LIT format ebooks using Microsoft’s DRM scheme can have the DRM removed using ConvertLit. There’s currently no way to remeove DRM from ebooks using Apple’s Fairplay DRM scheme, used on most ebooks bought at Apple’s iBooks ebook store. Who wrote DRM Tools scripts? The authors tend to identify themselves only by pseudonyms:
Where are my ebooks located? Your ebooks are stored on your computer or on your ebook reader. You need to find them to be able to remove the DRM. If they are on your reader, you should be able to locate them easily. On your computer it’s not so obvious. Here are the default locations. Macintosh
Windows
I just upgraded Kindle for Mac and now the tools don’t work You now have more than one kindle-info file, because uAmazon have moved the location of the file. The easiest thing is to delete both and let it get created again. Go to (Home Folder)/Library/Application Support/ and delete the “Kindle” folder and the “Amazon” folder. Now start Kindle for Macintosh. You’ll need to register it to your account again, and possibly download your books again, but after that the scripts will work again. Topaz: I used the tools on a Kindle file, and got back three files instead of one. Which one’s the de-drmed ebook? The Topaz file format contains two versions of the book plus a composite xml description of the book. The _SVG file is a zip archive of the scalable vector graphics (svg) image of each page of the book. Each image is comprised of a list of glyphs and positions. It is pretty much an exact copy of the original book, but made of up of images, not text. The second version is the text version, unchecked by human eye. It contains the usual kinds of errors you’d expect in OCRed text. This is the version used to create the HTML “_nodrm” zip archive. Neither DeDRM nor Calibre are causing the errors – the errors are in the OCR stored in the original ebook. The third file contains the XML files which truly are the Topaz internal format. If you want to understand this format better, unzip this file and open any of the xml files with a text editor. You can import the HTML version (_nodrm.zip) into Calibre to convert it to epub, mobi, etc as it is easily reflowable and convertible but it may need spellchecking and hand editing to clean it up the OCR errors. You can also import the set of SVG images into Calibre or other PDF creation software and convert them to an image-only based PDF. Double-clicking on any of the .pyw tools, I get the message “there is no default application specified to open the document”. I have Mac OS X 10.5 There is a bug in the Python Launcher set up on Mac OSX 10.5.X that wasn’t fixed until 10.6.X. So you have two options one very easy and one is just a bit harder but will allow python scripts to work well for the future
I’ve bought Mobipocket ebooks from an on-line retailer without having to enter the PID of my copy of Mobipocket Reader, and I can read them in Mobipocket Reader. But when I try to convert them to another format, calibre says that they have DRM, but the tools say they don’t contain a PIDs, and I should open them in Mobipocket Reader. What’s going wrong? The books are downloaded without a PID, but still encrypted. Opening them in Mobipocket Reader causes Mobipocket Reader to create a copy of the ebook that contains with the Mobipocket Reader’s PID. This copy is stored in the My eBooks folder in your My Documents folder. It’s this copy that you must use with the DRM removal tools. Since the original versions of the script and programs were released, various people have helped to maintain and improve them, mainly some_updates, DiapDealer and Apprentice Alf. Re: Download DRM Tools ArchiveThank you so much, I have spent hours trying to clear DRM. I don't want to be illegal but I want to read my books on the reader I Choose. The ridiculous Drm is like saying when I buy a hardcover that I can read it in the kitchen but I can't read it in the bedroom or office or living room. I just want to use a reader that is competent and works, not one I don't like. You have been amazing!!!

Re: Download DRM Tools ArchiveI see that your link was taken down quickly. If you want, I wouldn't mind hosting the file on my site. I have 40GB of space with unlimited bandwidth from someone I know who got a dedicated server in Europe for his video site.. My e-mail is here
I just really want the file because Amazon has a book I need for school, Apple doesn't. I much prefer having all my books in my iTunes Library |
Re: Download DRM Tools ArchiveHi,
it is actually not his link. This site simply provides information taken directly from the Apprentice Alf site but for some reason doesn't actually link to that site. If you actually google "ApprenticeAlf" and go to apprenticealf.wordpress.com you will see the complete blog which has a lot of information as well as a place to ask questions (in the Comments at the end of the final post in that blog) about the tools. Some of the authors of the tools themselves are there to provide help and answer questions. That site does have a strict "no piracy" policy and will refuse help to anyone trying to pirate ebooks. The reason the link went down is that tools_v4.5.zip was replaced by tools_v4.6.zip which is a bug fix release. Many many of the questions in this forum about ebook DRM have already been answered on the AA site. So if you are looking for a link to the latest tools, that is the place to look. |

Re: Download DRM Tools ArchiveA small set of users, primarily Mac OS X 10.5 PowerPC users, are stuck with using older versions of Calibre because newer versions of Calibre have dropped support for their platform. The Calibre plugin API has changed which means the Calibre plugins provided by the most recent tools releases will not work on older versions of Calibre.
To accommodate these users, the fixes and changes from the latest Calibre plugins have been back ported to the older Calibre plugin format (Thank You DiapDealer!). These old api plugins can be downloaded from here: Calibre_Plugins_using_Old_API.zip Code:

Re: Download DRM Tools Archive@iggy_grey:
Had same problem here. I found I could import them in the Windows version of Calibre but not the Linux version. Linux version refused to recognize any of the plugin zip files for some reason. Copying the plugin files directly to the plugin directory also failed. What worked was to import the files into Calibre on Windows, then copy the files to the plugin directory in Linux. When Calibre on Windows imports them it renames the files. It doesn't modify the files, as confirmed by checking the MD5 hash. As an alternative, you should be able to manually rename the files and then copy them to the plugin directory in Linux. Calibre on Linux still won't import the renamed files, but it will use them if manually placed in the plugin directory. The names of the plugin files on my system after import in Windows are: eReader PDB 2 PML.zip Ignoble Epub DeDRM.zip Inept Epub DeDRM.zip Inept PDF DeDRM.zip K4PC, K4Mac, Kindle Mobi and Topaz DeDRM.zip My Calibre versions... Windows: 0.8.30 Linux: 0.8.8 Good luck! EDIT: I just went back and read that you're using v0.8.30, so I suppose it's the Windows version. My advice may be useless in this case, except to say.... Make sure you unzip the downloaded .7z archive, but DO NOT unzip the individual .zip files inside. It's those individual files you need to import into Calibre. |
Re: Download DRM Tools ArchiveI am finding all this DRM stuff extremely difficult and always have. Started this study multiple times over the past year or two. I got here by chance and then I’m overwhelmed by the fact that someone has a moniker any ANONYMOUS forum user making it even more confusing. But that was probably his intention to begin with so someone has a smile on his mug:( , I guess.
I will take the time to get over it but in this part of the tech world, which is often more difficult for people like me:mad: , the thin elastic is near to snapping:eek: . I have spent thousands of dollars on epub dram encrypted books, Stanza is dead, eReader is my only, painful resort, and I can’t even buy more books through Fictionwise or eReader so now I feel I have no choice but to learn this stuff. I hate iBook and such formatting (and it takes a lot for me to hate something). I like to be honest:cool: but when my back is against the wall, changes have to be made>:)(supposed to be devil emoticon) And, usually the first post I make is full of hope and sick humour but any ANONYMOUS forum user has got my ire up, my dog is hiding in the laundry room, I’m high on caffein and e-cig juice (48 mg) and I have six more hours to go before the wife will unlock my liquor cabinet, and the night before her trip to church there’s no fooling around with that control-fanatic. Shall charge on, though. The light may be dim but I am obstinate. |
Re: Download DRM Tools Archive'any ANONYMOUS forum user' is just the name given to anyone who chooses to post anonymously. When you reply to this message,(by hitting the post reply button, not the quick reply option) just check the box at the top of the page and your post will also be posted anonymously.
With regards to your situation, i'm no expert, but I understand that most ebook DRM is hackable, google 'calibre DRM tools apprenticealf' or some combination thereof to find the relevent material, theres probably also so decent threads here. |
Re: Download DRM Tools ArchiveI think you folks are over-engineering this, especially if you use calibre.
Do this: 1. Download the full .7z archive and unpack the contents. You'll get a bunch of directories, including one called "Calibre_Plugins" 2. Go in the "Calibre_Plugins" directory and you will see a bunch of zip files, with a companion read me file for each. 3. Now go into Calibre and go into Preferences and then Plugins. 4. Click on "Load plugin from file" and navigate to the "Calibre_Plugins" directory that was created in Step 1 and select a plugin, accepted the buttons as they come. 5. Repeat step 4 for all the plugins you want to load. 6. Expand the "File type plugins" in Calibre (same location as step 3) and you will see each of the plugins you just loaded. 7. Click on a plugin and select the "Customize plugin" button at the bottom and do whatever was indicated for that plugin via the readme file in step 2. 8. Now you can use Calibre and import your DRM protected book. 9. Select your DRM protected book and use Calibre to "Convert" it - you can select the same format if you like (ie epub [ebook] to epub) and let it run. 10. When the conversion finishes, your old ebook will be renamed to a new "original_epub" and you'll have a new epub also, which will be unprotected. Pretty simple, actually... |
Re: Download DRM Tools ArchiveCan anyone please tell me how I can find my PID if I am only using Kindle for Mac? I don't have a serial number and I cannot find anywhere how to locate your PID for a Soft Reader.. If I had a Kindle hardware reader than I could easily find it...
Thank you in advance for your answer |
Re: Download DRM Tools ArchiveHi there,
I just patched my Kindle for Android v. 3.2.0.35 using the supplied patch. In the AboutDialog I get a nice list of PIDs, but when I try to remove the encryption with KindleBooks.pyw on my 64-bit Linux it fails: Conversion LogOn 32-bit WinXP the script fails, too: Do I need the K4PC app to actually remove the encryption?? |

Re: Download DRM Tools ArchiveHi, guys! I can't but quote helf and playfuldog, the latest version available for download is 2.6, but it is not working with Kindle for PC 1.8.3 due to Amazon changes to the new version. If someone could help uploading again the latest version of the DRM Tools Archive, it would be so great!

Re: Download DRM Tools ArchiveHi, guys! It's always me. While we're waiting for an official re-upload of the DRM Tools Archive, I'd like to make my contribution as far as it concerns to the ones interested in the Calibre DRM Plugins Suite.
I found a torrent here, with containing fairly updated ones: http://kat.ph/ebook-drm-removal-tool...t5923526.html# I also uploaded them to some ddlink mirrow, the zip password is "I love Calibre" (without the "): Code:
http://************/dl/146814273/335a517/Calibre_Plugins.zip.html (hotfile dot com) Code:
17/02/2012 11.36 13.530 eReaderPDB2PML_v05_plugin.zip While waiting for a more updated version, is there anyone that tried it and managed to figure out up to what version of Kindle for PC is supported? |
Re: Download DRM Tools ArchiveI hope it's not a problem I post it here, but seems the most updated version of the tools Archive is hosted here:
Code:
http://apprenticealf.wordpress.com/2010/02/11/hello-world/ Anyway as to beg pardon I'll add my own mirrow for the latest version currently online, the v 4.8: Code:
http://www.mediafire.com/?a2fxd0rojrr68rk As of now I really had a bunch of troubles using the Calibre Plugins. It seems they have some problem managing some kind of DRM... Instead the KindleBooks phyton application works incredible! I really recommend it to everyone is experiencing any problem. For the ones that doesn't know about Phyton programming language, first go here: Code:
http://www.activestate.com/activepython/downloads Then Unzip the KindleBooks folder inside the Tools Archive, open it and double-click on the "KindleBooks.pyw" file. The Python application will load and it will automatically work without the need of any PID if you've Kindle for PC installed and you're trying to deDRM files downloaded with it. Hope it helps, Bye. |
Re: Download DRM Tools ArchiveI need help. I am NOT good at learning new programs, but I managed to find the tools zip file, download it, and add the K4MobiDeDRM plugin to my Calibre, but while installing it gave me the "invalid PID" error message even though it hadn't asked for a PID. So how do I:
- give the plugin the PID (which I assume is the serial #) of the Kindle the file is coded for? I have K4PC installed but I figured it would be be easier to get the serial # of the actual Kindle - tell Calibre to strip the DRM from the file I am not techie and need simple "type this, click here" directions. If there is a "strip DRM for dummies" post somewhere, I would be thrilled to know where. |
Re: Download DRM Tools ArchiveJhack, thanks so much. You write simple, clear, basic instructions that even I can follow, and I was able to strip the DRM from some of my Amazon books using Python. (Most of them I don't bother with, but I have a few that I was thrilled to be able to buy and really don't want to take the chance of Amazon pulling them!)
I never did figure out how to strip it in Calibre, but I guess it doesn't matter. |
Re: Download DRM Tools ArchiveI need to get rid of this DRM, its driving me nuts. All i want is to be able to use the books i have bought, yes bought as in paid money for, in the way i choose. I had no idea it was so complicated. I'm sure the guide in the first post is understood by most follk here, but i can't make head nor tail of it. Pretty please, can someone provide me a complete dummy's guide in 1,2,3 format. So that i can sort out my ebooks once and for all. Would really appreciate it. I have calibre, thats as far as i've got!!!!
Massive thanks |
Re: Download DRM Tools ArchiveDeDRM just doesn't work. Although it does say that the DRM was removed, Calibre says the ebook has DRM and therefor cannot convert the book. Any ideas? I need that book printed asap...
|
Re: Download DRM Tools ArchiveI tried the drag-and-drop python app on Windows, no success. I've tried the plugin for Calibre, didn't work. Tried the python applescript that seemed to work but calibre still complained about the DRM. I'm on my dream holiday, first time in Latin America and rather than enjoying it, I spend hours every day trying to make this thing work. Considering that all I want is just to share a book with my mother in law. Will I ever get help? Why write code if it doesn't work or there's no help? Anyone there?
