How to remove DRM from NookStudy PDFI downloaded a book from barns and nobel. I have it on my nookstudy software. I found the pdf file but its drm protected. How can I remove it?

you open it in the nookstudy application and i've been poking around in the prefs dir and i only see an sqlite db called clientapi.db with a bunch of obvious information and an email address/password/device_id and some other information that's seemingly encrypted. |

Keep in mind, this skitters the border of illegal as it gets around the rental agreements. First thing, download the B&N reader program and Nookstudy. Run the key retrieval .py and then run the other .py and use the key you got from the first script. Run it on your PDF and done. Code:

I tried several things including doing the epub removal which didn't work really needless to say. I bought the nook because I was lead to believe that I could read it on it. One would assume. Also that link that takes you to the mediafire thing isn't working right now.

I had a problem getting it to work at first, but it turns out that activating Adobe Digital Editions does make a difference in the outcome. I also had Nook and Nook Study running and logged in, although I don't know if that was necessary.

Have installed and be viewing either the rental or the "purchase" Find the pdf. For the sake of simplicity make a folder on your drive close to your root. Install python 2.7. Download and install PYCRYPTO. the O is important. http://sourceforge.net/projects/pycrypto/files/ Move the mediafire stuff in the folder with the pdf. Now open the file within NOOK App. Run BNKeyretreival you can simply double click it if you have followed the above directions. Now you should see the "adeptkey.der" in the directory with your pdf and BNKeyretrieval. Now run "ineptpdf2" again you should be able to just click on it. Now if you did it right the key will be autofilled, if not, fill it in. If you dont have the key you have skipped a step. Next select your file. Then select your output. For gods sakes do not make them the same. Wait a bit, be patient. You will have an un-DRM version of whatever. It is up to you to use this only on books you own. You have been warned. |

I installed those two programs but they don't seem to exist anywhere other than add/remove programs. I couldn't get anything to run so I uninstalled and deleted everything as I was worried about what I had downloaded. Someone said something about being sure everything is in the same root but I don't know what that means? Should I copy and paste the pdf file from My Barnes & Noble Ebooks into another folder on my desktop then install everything else there? I have Adobe Digital Edition installed and authorized and can open my textbook in that program, but I don't see the pdf of the textbook in My Digital Editions, only in My Barnes & Noble. Some extremely detailed, step-by-step instructions would be GREATLY appreciated as I have a week to get a book I purchased through Nookstudy on my Nook Color! I don't want to be tied to my computer in order to read my book that I paid for, this is why I got a Nook Color! HELP!

Now I have a new question. Am I going to have to do all these downloads every time or if I save these files, will they work on all my books? Thank you to whoever figured out how to do this! Of course, now that I have decrypted my book I bet NookStudy will get opened up to the Nook ereader devices. Oh, well! At least I have my book for the beginning of classes. Thank you! |

p.s. I like that Nook Color has a color touch screen, but since it is an LCD screen, not an eInk screen, I prefer to use Kindle. |

I am using a computer with 64-bit Windows 7. I tried using both the Python 2.7 AND 2.6 versions and their Pyrocrypto counterparts, but I cannot get Pyrocrypto to install. I get the following error: "Requires Python 2.6, which was not found in the directory" or "Requires Python 2.7, which was not found in the directory". But I have installed both of these versions and allowed them to be placed in C:/Python26 and C:/Python27. Pyrocrypto will not allow me to type the directory in the box provided. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for your help. |
Re: How to remove DRM from NookStudy PDFHello! I'm having a bit of a problem with this DRM-removal technique and I was wondering if anyone knew why. I followed all of the steps exactly, installed what I was supposed to, and the PDF that I bought from NookStudy converts into a DRM-free version... at least, half of it does. Every odd-numbered page is there and in great shape, but every even-numbered page is just a nice white sheet of nothing.
I tried using Python 2.6 and the version of PyCrypto that goes along with it, but still I'm missing half of my book. I went up and started working with the inept scripts that make use of Python 2.7 and its version of PyCrypto, but there is no difference. I've redownloaded the book from inside the NookStudy program, but that doesn't help either. It's funny how I can't read my NookStudy books on my Nook Color. Does anyone know any solutions, or even what the problem is? |
