The best audio/video file conversion utility

What is the best audio/video file conversion utility?

I really like the features that Xilisoft Video Converter have, but unfortunately I see the same bugs over and over again for a very long period of time.

ATM I prefer to use a more reliable conversion software - Replay Converter. It supports less formats, but actually it supports all the formats I really need. Besides it costs only $19.95. Perfect price for the results it provides.

AVS Video Tools and Video Converter

I've tested AVS Video Tools (shareware-$29.95/Windows) and the results were very very good. Very stable converter with many useful features. Highly recommended!!!

Re: AVS Video Tools and Video Converter

AVS Video Converter now supports MKV, OGM, FLV and formats. The developers add new features regularly, but I still prefer to use this video converter :)

Uhmm, I like xilisoft video converter. it gave me the expression of a profressional and very powerful video converter with forward thinking guys ever to perfect it.

Amasing, it can convert all video files to iPod, psp, zune, iphone, flv. Seems one does not need extra converters.

By the way, I like the feature that AVS video converter supports MKV. :)

I got exciting news about Xilisoft!

Xilisoft has recently released YouTube Video Converter to download videos from YouTube.com and convert YouTube videos to other video formats.
On xili website it says: With its "downloading + converting" one-step solution, we could easily download FLV videos from YouTube to play on your iPod, PSP, mobile phone, Apple TV, Zune, iPhone etc.

I just tried it and it is very incredible. tell you, it is 14 days trial.

It is a tough question.

I rip DVDs with StaxRip, convert MPEG-2 TVrips into MPEG-4 (xvid / x264) videos with VirtualDub,...

I also used Nero Recode for converting DVDs and MPEG-2 videos to MPEG-4 AVC files. I really liked that it could add DVD chapters to the video. Sometimes it is a must have feature and it was the only thing that stopped me from converting some DVD videos.

If freeware Jaksta Free Media Converter works fine for you and you are satisfied with its interface, you can use it.

Otherwise you should think about features you really need.

AVS Video Tools that includes AVS Video Converter is a nice bundle. AVS Video Converter has so many features! Besides the video converter I regularly use AVS Video Remaker to cut off TV commercials.

There are things that I don't like in AVS Video Converter:
  • It doesn't support some formats.
  • I don't like the way it crops the video (and I don't wanna see black borders in my videos)
  • 2-pass encoding requires me to set up each step (at least to change from first pass to the second one)
  • I need other products for DVD and audio conversion

I also like Cucusoft Ultimate Video Converter. It is a chinese product with weird language on the web-site and potential problems with support. But I like it anyway.

I don't like Xilisoft Video Converter. It is very good on paper. But in reality I wasn't able to convert into many formats while other software did the job perfectly. And this situation doesn't change with newer versions...

Re: The best audio/video file conversion utility

One word. SUPER. It's an amazing converter that can convert virtually any media file imaginable. The GUI is a little ehh... probably created by someone who can't speak fluent English. But still, the best converter.

Try PubClip.com. Upload your media and they convert it to its optimal format for streaming. It's as low as $14.99 and they have a lot more features that allow you to easily add audio, video and testimonials to your websites, emails, blogs and podcasts.

Try freeware Jaksta Free Media Converter, MediaCoder and Format Factory first.

We do NOT recommend even to try software from spammers:
Wondershare spammers, Aimersoft spammers, 4videosoft spammers, Aiseesoft spammers, shine spammers, Nidesoft spammers, Pavtube spammers, Xilisoft spammers, Xlinksoft spammers, iSkysoft spammers.
We are sorry if you have chosen the above mentioned software after reading spam posts. Always try software before buying. And we highly recommend not to buy software promoted by spammers, otherwise you will see more and more useless "reviews" in the Internet.

Re: The best audio/video file conversion utility

Another free GUI converter front-end that is quite good is Altysoft Free Video Converter 2.1. It does especially well on the .flv container.

Of course, when converting, transcoding, extracting, or muxing video - you always get the most options using the command line programs directly.

i am so surprised that no one here even mentioned Jaksta Free Media Recorder, Format Factory and Freemake. They are freeware and have nice user interface. Most of software product have a "soft" in their brand name are spammers according to my personal experience.

I'm using Format Factory for converting any Videos, Audios, and Pictures. My opinion is it the best software for converting and its both paid and free software and still, I'm using the free version of format factory software and still its working perfectly. For me, it is the best software for converting.
