How can I download videos from Hulu.com onto my computer?

I prefer applications that download the video directly from the browser, without having to install the application itself. But I just need a reliable method of getting videos from Hulu without getting viruses or security compromises.

Hulu uses secure RTMPE streams. Software developed in the U.S.A. and many other countries can't download RTMPE streams, because otherwise it would violate DMCA.

You can download Hulu videos with freeware command line utility rtmpdump in Linux, Windows and Mac OS. You can also use rtmpsuck that comes with it to download Hulu videos in Linux and Mac OS. And you can use get-flash-videos, another command line utility that uses rtmpdump.

Hulu videos can also be downloaded with freeware StreamTransport (Windows) or with shareware GetFLV.

Note that RTMPE stream downloaders stop working with Hulu from time to time, but you can always use screen video capture software to record Hulu videos from screen.

Ok I admit I have only skimmed this thread and need to do a lot more reading.

However I am a bit impatient as I just lost the ability to record HULU due to the fact that Stream Transport no longer works and is no longer being developed.

I have tried Replay Media Catcher and it does not work at HULU or most other sites I have tried. At HULU it just downloads a small few hundred KB file with no extension. With other sites it records dozens of streams from all over the net but rarely includes streams from the site I am looking at and has never recorded the stream I had playing.

I am waiting a response from the developers of Streaming Video Recorder as to what the limitations of the free version are (I will not try a trial version unless the limitations are stated before the software is downloaded. Normally, I disregard all software that fails to give such info but I am desperate so I emailed them). Also they will give you the full version for free if you link to them from two sites and I was planning on setting up my own site anyways:)

Basically The info in this thread is a bit old. I would like to know what stream recorders currently work with HULU.

But anyways, as long as it does the job properly and helps u save hulu videos I don't see what's it matter that much whether it can capture or record hulu streams.

Screen recorders is the worst and the last option to use. They really help when streaming downloaders / capture software doesn't work. But in all other cases few users like to

• record while streaming videos are being buffered,
• record in real time (when faster downloading options are available),
• loose quality instead of getting a perfect digital copy of the stream.

I don't see any problem mentioning screen recorders in general. Then one can help to choose the best one in the screen recording forum. Otherwise the threads will just list dozens of screen recorders, and I don't see how this can be beneficial for users.

I've just started looking into stream capturing... mainly because I don't have TiVo or a VCR and I missed an episode of Celebrity Apprentice and want to watch it on my TV, not my computer. Is it true that GetFLV is the only option? There aren't any freeware apps that will capture RTMPE?

since hulu put in type 9 RTMPE handshake:

rtmpdump does not work
StreamTransport does not work

Please try GFLV. It can help you download 1M bitrate hulu videos.

I think video download capture is best choice for downloading videos from any website. It will have option for different resolution and file format. Best thing about it is it can detect all videos present on a page so no need to copy and paste video url so many times. It's really cool! Try it...
