Listening audiobooks vs Reading books and ebooks

I am a patient person but am a personal fan of the audio books (eMusic) side of thing.

Don't see the benefit in staring at paper all day long?

Re: Listening audiobooks vs Reading books and ebooks

I use audiobooks more than I read, although I have an eInk reader with a great collection of ebooks.

Speed reading allows to read books much faster. But even if you don't know anything about speed reading, you will probably read faster anyway.

There are more books than audiobooks.

And IMHO the most important thing is that you remember more when read than when you listen to.

There are different kinds of memory and everyone are developed one of them. Someone remembers more, when listens, and someone - when reads. Reading books not to compare with anything. Emotions of audiobooks are already imposed by someone, and when you read the book you represent your own picture.

Never thought of it that way before! I suppose the "everyones different approach" could solve for many of the worlds answers.

I just don't understand how sitting, not moving and looking at words can overpower working, listening and hearing animated sylables.

Agree that listening is a more convenient way, but reading book does give you chances to dig deeperly into the words, in my opinion. I love to read slowly and take notes or highlight whichever sentences that i feel love, and sometimes come back to read again. Thinking that audiobook can give you these things

Sometimes i find doing this "sitting-notmoving-looking at words" peaceful, though it takes a lot of time

I'm lucky, I have both. I listen to some authors - those I know will make me laugh out loud, doesn't take much concentration. I read things with a reader (no dead trees) I know I want to spend time on and think or perhaps smile instead of laugh. Which method is better depends on the author and what you want out of the literature.

eReader still need raw materials and energy. Energy, even when coming from alternative sources, is not 100% clean and friendly anyway (windmills kill the birds, solar panels prevent heat from coming to the ground,...) And in many countries dead electronics is not recycled. So eReaders are not ideal.

Each individual has a multiple intelligences, some are capable with this and some are not with that. Of course, reading is as important today as it's always been. However, researchers suggest that reading any material AND hearing it at the same time makes the reading not only more interesting, but also more effective. It simply engages the reader's senses from more angles.

Audio books for kids have become a promising learning tool for children to get better contact with reading tasks they dislike. As a teacher it is easy for us to have this materials because we can have download audio books free. We can fine this free audio books online.

I think it depends on what you are doing. Audiobooks are great for traveling. If you have to drive a lot there is nothing that compares. I love reading books and I don't like all these new electronic devices like Kindle. They isolate us from each other. I love to travel around the world and spreading knowledge to others. I always bring a couple of books with me and pick more up from other travelers. The beautiful thing about tangible copies is that I can give someone a book that inspired me or changed my life to someone that maybe can't even afford books but when you have something like a kindle you can only recommend books and can never share or let someone borrow them unless they have a kindle themselves. Audiobooks are the same in that matter. I have loved audiobooks though for the last 2 years because I had to travel to and from work for an hour and a half every day so they saved my life....

Thank you,
Zach Nims

interesting point about the impossibility to actually borrow a book for Kindle... I've never thought about this, but it's true... If someone doesn't have kindle, he or she is cut out from this experience.

I prefer reading books, but it's true audio books are very practical when you're travelling!

to skip as many as new york asian escort nine times, but today four was the most he'd been able to manage). He had new york asian escort service also thought about how to deal with Shooter, when and if Shooter turned up again. It was true he had felt a transient - or maybe not-so-transient - guilt when he saw how close to identical the two stories were, but he had worked that one

I use both. When I drive or exercise the audiobooks are great. I seem to learn better with audio but it is only my opinion. I am a recording engineer so maybe that is a reason. Nothing better than an autobiography read by the author!
