Recording cancels instantly after startingI'm running Windows Media Recorder 12.5 on vista x64.
I have recorded successfully for years, but now when I record anything it starts and then instantly cancels. This is on youtube vids, CMT, etc... anywhere. I have tried several that I know are non-encrypted in case that is the issue. I have tried it with firewalls disabled. I have unistalled, and reinstalled. Everything I try regardless of the url starts and then cancels. Any help would be nice. Thanks folks. |
Re: Recording cancels instantly after startingSame problem here. Just started w/in the last couple of weeks. I've no clue...

Re: Recording cancels instantly after startingIt's wmr12 and it's working splendidly now. The one thing I had not tried (which I did immediately after making this post) was to reinstall the software.
The *only* difference I noticed between the before-and-after is this: When it was not working, the "url" box contained "nvidia...etc," i.e., information about the sound card? And I'd thought this strange because it had always--and does again--have "flash/rtmp - capture enabled" as the "default". So I don't know if I inadvertently changed something or not, but again, it's back to working splendidly as always. Great software, all of it! |
Re: Recording cancels instantly after startingHaving the same problem here since I upgraded to WM Recorder 14.
On my XP computer it very occasionally the program will record a video from You Tube. But 19 out 0ut 20 times it cancels immediately upon connecting. On MY computer running Vista, the program does not work at all. Will not recognize any URL's. I am giving Appian a few weeks to come up with a solution before I demand a refund on my upgrade. |
Re: Recording cancels instantly after startingI have been using WM Recorder succesfully for years but since recently upgrading to WM Recorder 14 I am experiencing the same problem as Arthur. Frequently the recorder starts and then suddenly stops recording. Has never behaved in this esporadic manner before. It use to be reliable software. What could be causing this?
I am using IE but have also tried Firefox. Some Youtube and some BBC.co.uk/radio4 (broadcasts) |

Re: Recording cancels instantly after startingAs I said above WM 14.
However it has worked this evening. Just recorded two BBC streams without a problem. |
Re: Recording cancels instantly after startingFurther to above. Just tried to record from Youtube and it inmediately cancelled. Kept restarting and it kept Cancelling moments after the stream begun.

What mode do you use to record BBC and YouTube streams? |
Re: Recording cancels instantly after startingQuote:
Regarding mode, it is ADA. |
Re: Recording cancels instantly after startingQuote:
Because the recording stops immediately my best guess is that a firewall or an antivirus prevents WMR from recording. I use Windows XP with Agnitum Outpost without any problem. Do you use Windows Vista or Windows 7? What firewall do you use? Also you can try to stop playing streams as soon as WMR starts recording them. Please try the WMX mode, it may work better for you. Re: Recording cancels instantly after startingI use Norton as antivirus and firewall on windows XP.
I start streaming until download begins, then I stop streaming as you suggest. Iīll try WMX and see what happens. I am just surprised because I had no problems with version 12, on the other hand 14 is better because it allows download of BBC radio which 12 didnīt. It would be even better if it could work with the BBC iplayer videos. I think it has DRM issues, otherwise it would be perfect. Canīt have everything. Thanks for your help. |

Re: Recording cancels instantly after startingSometimes your browser stores these videos in your cache so it can pull them up faster when you go to watch them. Unfortunately when this happens it doesnt request the URL, and WM Recorder cannot record it.
Try clearing out your browser cache and see if that makes a difference :D |

Re: Recording cancels instantly after startingThank you for all the suggestions. I have been clearing the cache and it seems to have helped. However still sometimes the download does not begin until it is cancelled and started again.
Nothing is perfect in this world. |
Re: Recording cancels instantly after startingSorry for piling on, but I have the same problem with WM Recorder 14.1-01/24/10, purchased just this morning. I use Windows XP, SP2, and access the 'Net via Internet Explorer. Most sites I visit output in FLV. I've previously used WMR 12 extensively, and with great success.
My experience is that WMR 14 attempts to record in RTMP format (whatever that is), but shuts down after downloading just 350kb or so. I've tried fiddling with the WMX and PRO settings through the Mode switch, but with no results. I've performed several reinstallations of WMR 12, but again, no joy. Also, the right-hand tool bar (Settings, Status, Help, etc.) is non-functional. When I click on"Options", for instance (trying to get deeper into it), the only effect is that the WMR 14 box becomes semi-transparent until I lift off the left mouse key. Hellllp! (Thanks in advance for any advice :-) Frank |

Thanks. :D |
Re: Recording cancels instantly after startingThis is quite frustrating, particularly when version 12 of this software worked so well and trouble free.
Having said all this, it is still the best of this kind of software available. |
Re: Recording cancels instantly after startingWMR version 14.3
OS Windows7 Ultimate (64 bits) Browser: Firefox 3.6.3 Firewall: Windows Defender Anti-virus: Eset NOD32 4.2 I am a WMR user for some years now, a very satisfied customer. But since last week (?) I encounter the same problem; after opening a webpage with a live stream the recording is immediately cancelled. The url of this page is: http://www.greatriverenergy.com/abou...l/birdcam.html I watch a lot of webcams with live images from nest sites of Peregrine Falcons and Bald Eagles, they too are in wmv format. http://www.njfishandwildlife.com/per...m/jcp-live.htm or mms://tv.eenet.ee/konnakotkas Last Friday I recorded the launch of the Space shuttle from NASA TV, no problem there either. Would really appreciate any help or explanation. |
Re: Recording cancels instantly after startingI just tried recording the Peregrine Falcon site you linked. WMR14 cancelled immediately as usual. I still have WMR12, however, so I tried the same site with that. Recording was successful in HTTP/WMV format, albeit at a very slow rate (maximum 264Kpbs, minimum 64Kpbs), where my normal recording rate is usually 784Kpbs or better.
I then went to one of my own favorite sites, tried to record with WMR12, and it wouldn't activate at all. I believe the site owners have blocked downloads. That is the reason for my purchase of WMR14 in the first place, since it promised it would record video from all sites, any format. But, as usual, WMR14 started recording in RTMP format, but froze up after recording about 200Kb... also as usual. I guess the WMR14 icon will remain sitting on my desktop as a reminder to maybe, on of these days, try to get my $50 back :-( |

Re: Recording cancels instantly after startingQuote:
The new version is up and running. Open Settings and click Updates in the current WMR (14.0) or download from http://www.wmrecorderpro.com/install_wmrecorder.exe If you already have 14.1, then don't worry about that - and please proceed to the below instructions. You need to run WM Recorder with the Preview mode enable. Click OPTIONS / Flash RTMP download options and then Enable preview recording. Also make sure you have the High speed download checked in this pop-up. There is more to the real time preview. Watch Applians marketing director' Leslie's demonstration of BBC 2 hour radio show recorded in about 4 minutes (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udnAbZiBlMk ) and how you can use this real preview: WMR is the only recorder that can do this. The real time preview however has a drawback - in some cases it loads up the CPU (just as the Adobe Flash player). If you have a number of shows downloaded simultaneously at max connection speed (10 for example) it is better to disable the real time preview which could generate downloading errors in this case. These errors cannot be handled by the converter. If you have complains about conversion problems of FLV files recorded with WM Recorder, disable the real time preview. Let me know how it goes! :-) |
Re: Recording cancels instantly after startingThat was it!!!!!!!!!
I have followed the above instructions and WM14 is now working as I thought it should. It no longer stops soon after it starts recording. The download time for me is not as fast as Leslieīs demo, but I think that is to do with my broadband connection. My useless ISP will not supply me with more than 1 MB in my area. Try it guys. This has solved my issues. |

Re: Recording cancels instantly after startingI had this same problem after upgrading to WMR14 after having WMR12 work for many years.
After some looking around, I noticed the URL from a newly-recorded stream had ":80/" at the end of it. I added ":80/" to the end of my URL and now the recording continues instead of instantly cancelling. This is certainly easy to try. I have now modified the file "scheduled.txt" with the ":80/" for each file name and all my old scheduled items work. (I sure wish an upgrade operation would automatically copy this file into the new folder so all the work I've done setting up a schedule would automatically be imported into the new version.) |
Re: Recording cancels instantly after startingHave you tried upgrading by downloading WMR 14.4. I did and all is fine with me now.
Having said that, if your suggestion has worked for you then ....... I am just not that good. |
Re: Recording cancels instantly after startingNone of the suggestions above have solved my problem. Still waiting for some answers and ideas.
