www.channel4.com: Any way to capture video from the new 4OD service? How can I download free on-demand TV programmes from 4oD Catch-Up
Code:

www.channel4.com: Any way to capture video from the new 4OD service?I have tried EVERYTHING, programs listed here have worked for the adverts, but failed to even notice the show stream,
Any help or advice would be great, Thx. |
Re: www.channel4.com: Any way to capture video from the new 4OD service?WM Capture will work great, no matter what encryption occurs in the future. It's a screen recorder though, but the quality looks just as good as a download IMO.
I would try that first. |
Re: www.channel4.com: Any way to capture video from the new 4OD service?I haven't found any embedded video players on the attached page.
4od uses Flash player for showing streaming content. Please try Flash stream recorder like Replay Media Catcher and Jaksta and let me know how it goes. |
Re: www.channel4.com: Any way to capture video from the new 4OD service? Thanks for the rapid response guys. Unfortunately, Replay Media Catcher doesn't address this problem, leastways not on my PC it doesn't. It manages to detect each of the adverts that are transmitted prior to the programme itself on Channel4.com 4OD, but not the actual programme for some reason. I've already built up quite a collection of adverts while trying different options.
Can somebody please try this and let me know if it's just me or there's something about the way Ch4 codes the progs under the new software. Thanks. :) |
Re: www.channel4.com: Any way to capture video from the new 4OD service?Try Jaksta. You don't need to buy it, just try a demo version.
Freeware URL Snooper may show something interesting as well. |
Re: www.channel4.com: Any way to capture video from the new 4OD service?Jaksta just sees the adverts, and URL Snooper I believe has found the file, but now I need to find a program that will download the rtmpe mp4 file from that location.

Re: www.channel4.com: Any way to capture video from the new 4OD service?I confirm that these don't work either. I appreciate that people in the US are doing their best and can't test their hypotheses because non-British IP addresses are blocked, but if there's anyone in the UK who knows how to crack this and can actually test out their ideas that would be great.

Re: www.channel4.com: Any way to capture video from the new 4OD service? |
Re: www.channel4.com: Any way to capture video from the new 4OD service?I hoped that wouldn't be the way, as that is so awkward, anyone know of any screen capturing software that can record real time at a good size?
Camtasia slows down, and WM Capture messes up my audio. thx |
Re: www.channel4.com: Any way to capture video from the new 4OD vervice?Unfortunately Channel4 has not been so considerate as to provide addresses for its programmes and even if they had I would not be inclined to execute commands from DOS prompts on my PC. Can someone please just try recording a programme from 4OD and let me know when they have succeeded, rather than (with the best will in the world) just posting complex messages about what ought to work. Thanks.

Re: www.channel4.com: Any way to capture video from the new 4OD vervice?I'm new to this forum and I don't want to be rude and get myself ostracised, but it does seem just a teeny bit like being in a room full of virgins discussing how good someone is in bed.

Re: www.channel4.com: Any way to capture video from the new 4OD vervice? For a moment there I thought it worked, however I got this error with rtmpdump

It is true that few people know how to use rtmpdump and it is not an easy to use software. And when there will be a good tutorial for the program (or may be a nice GUI), I bet in a couple of days the developers of server software will introduce new changes and rtmpdump will stop working. But I see only two alternatives here: either to learn more about rtmpdump or to capture video from your screen. |
Re: www.channel4.com: Any way to capture video from the new 4OD service?I've just used URL Snooper to detect the url of a programme that is being streamed securely after the recordable adverts. Here is one such programme (an episode of Hollyoaks):
Code:
http://www.channel4.com/4oD/mp4:assets/CH4_08_02_16_47605027001001_001.mp4 |
Re: www.channel4.com: Any way to capture video from the new 4OD service? It's the same as what I described in this thread awhile ago, I said I used URL Snooper to get the link, but unfortunately nothing will download it, not even rtmpdump. Your only choice is screen recording software.
And that link isn't the correct link, it's Code:
rtmpe://securestream.channel4.com/4oD/mp4:assets/CH4_08_02_16_46832136001001_001.mp4 |
Re: www.channel4.com: Any way to capture video from the new 4OD service?Make sure you use rtmpdump v1.6.
If 4od uses SWF verification, you need to find the URL of the SWF player, as well and provide the URL of the player, its SWF hash and SWF size as parameters for rtmpdump. Please post the exact parameters you use and the rtmpdump output, otherwise it will be almost impossible to help. |
Re: www.channel4.com: Any way to capture video from the new 4OD service?I used 1.6, I just followed the on screen instructions to add the url and save location, it never asked me for the swf player location, I'll need to try and find some tutorial or documentation on it for that as I have no clue what command that is.
I posted my previous rtmpdump output a few posts up. |
Re: www.channel4.com: Any way to capture video from the new 4OD service?Sorry for not making a wrong statement. By command I meant exact parameters that you use with rtmpdump.
The program doesn't ask any details about SWF player. This may help a little bit: rtmpdump.com - freeware RTMP stream downloader (MacOS X, Linux, Windows) http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum...m/1212283.html |
Re: www.channel4.com: Any way to capture video from the new 4OD service? Thanks, I think I give up tbh mate, I've tried everything, Every string, all commands and still just an empty file, and get no further than the handshake, I don't know anyone that has downloaded a 4od show from their new site successfully, Thanks for all the help anyway.
I found that if you disable hardware acceleration via flash player (right click on the video playing), and then record the screen (I use Techsmith Camtasia), The quality is great with no slowdown, hope that helps some people. |
Re: www.channel4.com: Any way to capture video from the new 4OD service? So, is there someone out there who can solve this problem? It can't be that difficult, surely?
|
Re: www.channel4.com: Any way to capture video from the new 4OD service? The fates are conspiring against me. I can't even get Camtasia Studio to record the video from my screen - the video is fine but the audio comes in 36 minute blocks of soundtrack interspersed with 36 minute blocks of white noise.

Re: www.channel4.com: Any way to capture video from the new 4OD service?Has there been any developments on this issue? I am annoyed by the new version of the 4od service too. I keep losing connection on my crappy wireless adapter in laptop so I have to sit through 30+ seconds of adverts and the program starts from the beginning. All I want is to dl the video to my comp with a resume function when I disconnect.
I noticed the following link in the temp folder of Opera but don't know whether it is the advert or the program: rtmpe://securestream.channel4.com/4oD/mp4:assets/CH4_08_02_16_47111005001001_001.mp4 Has anyone found a way to dl programs for the new 4oD? |
Re: www.channel4.com: Any way to capture video from the new 4OD service?I gave up in the end and just use WM Capture. The results are surprisingly satisfactory, with quality significantly better than achieved after a digital download followed by conversion from .asf to .avi or another editable format.
Although file size is larger, I've found that by recording pop-outs at medium window size I get a very acceptable balance between quality and file volume. In any case, I never needed perfection in the first place. I'm only trying to help an expat family member to watch favourite programmes in far-away places, not trying to run a bootleg commercial venture. |

Re: www.channel4.com: Any way to capture video from the new 4OD service?rtmpdump has the same problems as I posted above awhile ago, just saves a 1.8k file of nothing, and just tried GetFLV, It does the same, saved a 1.8k empty file.
I use Camtasia Studio to capture the screen now as no video downloader has worked, WM Capture refused to accept my sound card, so thats out for me. |

Re: www.channel4.com: Any way to capture video from the new 4OD service?I forgot to add that I'm using Vista and I'm sure that's why a lot of other solutions wouldn't work for me. In my version of Vista, some of the options to change video parameters simply wouldn't work. Incidentally, Tunebite (which I use to DRM-strip downloads) loves my Vista system, whereas it always dropped frames on my old XP system.

Re: www.channel4.com: Any way to capture video from the new 4OD service?I'm now more certain than ever that all this depends on your operating system, the video and sound cards installed and probably the amount of RAM, etc. rather than on the software application.
I could never get anything like a decent result using WM Capture on my XP machine but it works a dream on the new one. I guess everyone has to try all the solutions and find the one that works for them. |
Re: www.channel4.com: Any way to capture video from the new 4OD service?GetFLV 8.8.40 can download channel4.com video now. Please help us check it.:)
|
Re: www.channel4.com: Any way to capture video from the new 4OD service?I've just tested it and you are right, the url detection is perfect and the program is downloaded in the background without the adverts. However, the resulting .asf file plays at the wrong speed - too fast - and my .asf to .wmv converter makes a good effort at correcting this but ultimately fails and has to drop blocks.

Re: www.channel4.com: Any way to capture video from the new 4OD service? My earlier comment referred to GetFLV 8.8.40. I downloaded it as suggested and ran it in trial mode on a Ch4 4OD programme from my Dell desktop Vista system. The download was truncated by GetFLV to its trial limit. I've uploaded it to a server from which you can hotlink to it or download it:
Code:

You can fix it by demuxing the file and remuxing into a .mp4 container or a new .flv container |
