RTMPE stream recording/downloading/capturing/ripping/saving

I need to record/download/capture/rip/save RTMPE video streaming from Hulu, MTV, CBS and MySpace. Is RTMPE stream recording/downloading/capturing/ripping/saving possible at all? Are there any programs that don't mention anything about it on their web-sites, but still are able to handle the RTMPE protocol?

Re: RTMPE stream recording/downloading/capturing/ripping/saving

Adobe continues to threaten companies that develop software recording video streamed through the RTMPE protocol (because RTMPE recording presumably violates DMCA). Although this is pointless, because open source software rtmpdump 1.6 supporting RTMPE recording was spread all over the world.

Software allowing to find RTMPE URLs and download them
  • Screen Capture tool such as Replay Video Capture

    rtmpdump
(Windows, Linux, Mac OS, Android / Freeware) - command line utility that supports RTMPE streams and SWF verification. RTMPdump comes with 2 handy utilities: rtmpsrv and rtmpsuck.

rtmpsrv allows to find RTMP and RTMPE parameters and start rtmpdump with them.

rtmpsuck works like a proxy server and allows to capture RTMP / RTMPE streams and save them to your hard drive. It is recommended to use this tool in Linux like Ubuntu.

And there is a GUI program for rtmpdump, rtmpsrv: RTMPexplorer (Windows/Freeware).
  • GetFLV (Windows/Shareware) - RTMPE downloader (GUI) supporting SWF Verification.
  • TubeDigger (Windows/Shareware) - RTMPE downloader and recorder (GUI) supporting SWF Verification.
  • get-flash-videos (Windows, Linux, Mac OS / Freeware) - command line utility that uses rtmpdump to download RTMPE streams. Supports select web-sites only, but allows to download higher quality streams even if you have a slow internet connection.
  • StreamTransport (Windows/Freeware) - RTMPE downloader (GUI) supporting SWF verification. Allows to find RTMPE URLs and download RTMPE streams.
  • CooJah + Blader (Windows/Freeware) - RTMPE URL finder and downloader (GUI) supporting SWF verification.

Coojah allows to find RTMPE URLs and other RTMPE parameters. You can start Blader from Coojah to download RTMPE streams.

Other software supporting secure RTMPE protocol
  • NetTransport (Windows / Shareware) - allows to download RTMPE streams. The program can't find RTMPE URLs, nor does it allow you to enter any additional RTMPE parameters.
  • Replay Media Catcher 4 / Jaksta (Windows / Shareware) allows to use rtmpdump as a plug-in. The program can find RTMPE URLs from playlists only, so the program can download few RTMPE streams.

Software that does NOT support secure RTMPE protocol anymore or that is not distributed officially anymore

And of course you may use screen video capture software to record anything you see on your screen.

Re: RTMPE stream recording/downloading/capturing/ripping/saving

rtmpe:// recording works for me on mtv.com using rtmpdump:
Code:

rtmpdump-WIN32-1.6.exe -r rtmpe://file.mp4 -o output.flv
Replay Media Catcher (with rtmpe plugin) failed on mtv rtmpe mp4 streams. RMC works on some rtmpe:// flv streams .

Jaksta failed on the mtv rtmpe mp4 streams.

did not try other downloaders.
hope this helps!

What software do you use to find RTMPE stream URLs?

Adobe forced the developers of both programs to remove support of RTMPE stream downloading/recording/capturing/ripping/saving.

unfortunately i could not find any way to find RTMPE urls. Replay Media Catcher (RMC) can detect them, but does not report the stream url in the error message.

Is there any way I can ask how you got rtmpdump WIN32 1.6 to work? I can't even open it. I'd really rather not partition off my hard drive to use Linux just for this.

rtmpdump is a command line utility. You need to open Command Prompt first and then launch it from there.

Okay, thank you!

One more question. Am I doing something wrong here?

I want to download this link rtmpe://fms-edge02.omroep.nl/3v12/MP4:41944313.mp4 so i typed it in plus -o output.flv

It download about 7% and then stopped so I tried it several times making sure I typed everything correctly but everytime it says the stream isn't found. Are they on to me?

The only thing I can suggest is to use the --resume option:
Code:

rtmpdump -r "rtmpe://fms-edge02.omroep.nl/3v12/MP4:41944313.mp4" -o output.flv --resume

Those are all from the same company, but I can't get any of them to work. GetFLV is the only product that works, unfortunately it crashes so much it takes up to 4 hours sometimes to download a couple of shows.

I've read that Grab Pro can capture RTMPE, but it doesn't work for me. What version can handle RTMPE?

The only GUI application that can download RTMPE streams seems to be GetFLV. It is pricey and some users complain about its support, but hope it is a better alternative for you than rtmpdump. The latter program is really not an easy to use application. But due to DMCA restrictions we may not see anything better in the nearest future.

GUI application that can download RTMPE streams:
How to download an RTMPE stream with StreamTransport:
  1. Open StreamTransport
  2. Paste the URL of the web-page you would like to record from into the URL editbox and hit the start button.
  3. Play your video
  4. An RTMPE URL will appear below the web-page
  5. Select the RTMPE URL and hit the Download button

How to download an RTMPE stream with Coojah+Blader:
  1. Open Coojah and select the Video tab
  2. Open your web-browser (make sure Coojah monitors the traffic from it) and navigate to a web-page you would like to record from
  3. Play your video in your browser
  4. In Coojah select an RTMPE URL that you want to download, right click on it and select "Download by Blader..."
  5. Choose a filename and folder if needed and hit the OK button

Place rtmpdump.exe in the Replay Media Catcher install folder. Then go to the Settings and configure as shown above. For example:
Code:

Protocol: RTMPE
Url Match: myspacecdn.com
Executable: rtmpdump.exe
Parameters: -r "{url}" -o "{file}"

The "Url Match" is a regular expression that is matched against a detected URL that is streaming on a given protocol to determine whether the specified executable should be used to perform the download or not.

The biggest problem with this approach is that RMC can send a URL to rtmpdump only, so any additional parameters including the ones needed for SWF verification should be specified manually for every particular web-site.

If you have any idea how to make RMC using 3rd party applications for downloading RTMPE or any other streams, please let everyone know.

So, applian had the Jaksta dude write Replay Media Catcher (rmc) 4? Will jaksta still be developed? I couldn't install rmc4 on the OS where I had jaksta already installed, but it installed fine on another partition where I didn't have jaksta installed. I wonder if the device drivers between jaksta and rmc4 conflict. Anyway, it is interesting that applian would go for a complete change with the jaksta base.

Tested NetTransport (NetXFer) 2.96b. It allows to download RTMPE streams. But I wasn't able to find any RTMPE URLs with its URL Sniffer. The program doesn't have any additional fields for SWF verification as well as many other RTMPE parameters, but I was able to download RTMPE streaming videos from MTV, Crunchyroll, vpro.nl using it.

f**king criminy. after 12 hours of playing with RTMPexplorer, RTMPdump and rtmpsrv, going through tutorials, installing .NET 4, editing HOSTS files, making .bat executables.. none of it worked. rtmpexplorer and rtmpsrv were my biggest waste of time today. literally useless. i had rtmpdump working a few months ago, but it was too much of a pain in the ass just to have it fail after downloading 75% of the stupid video.

on the other hand, GetFLV seemed to work great, though of course i dont have a spare $50 at the moment. cost me $70 to fill my gas tank last week. guess i wont be having the luxury of that program any time soon.

someone mentioned URL Snooper not finding RTMPE streams anymore, and someone else gave the thing a D+ grade. in fact, this is one of the only programs ive been able to use successfully in finding all available streams for one video, and its still working great for me. this is from 20 mins ago at MTV.com:

SO bummed CooJah's record feature doesnt work anymore... so bummed...

RTMPexplorer and CooJah are the only working GUI RTMPE recorders right now.

If you have problems downloading complete videos with RTMPdump, just try to use the resume option.

I have got lots of positive results with GetFLV (and there are some GetFLV clones which are identically powerful). Even if URL Snooper 2 can detect or capture the RTMPE url's, it cannot download them.

URL Snooper is no longer acessing the rtmpe streams on gamnetrailers and mtv.com The individual streams are cloaked in a way that even the latest version is not accessing. If all you are looking for is the flv trailers by http then you are fine but if you are looking for the show which are .mp4 rtmpe then you are out of luck as URL snooper no longer lists .mp4 rtmpe in the results

Some older videos on mtv.com can still be accessed by URL Snooper but most are not accessed.

URL Snooper 2 STILL works fine on OLD youtube music videos (videos that are usually that are less than 10 min and definitely NOT html5 encoded at this point

This is the same problem I have found with the bulk of the listed programs here. Originally if you used URL Snooper you had the basis of the film as all you needed was a good downloader like rtmpdump which i find is great as most of the downloader either do NOT work on rtmpe due to adobe and their cease and desist lawyers or the video people are trying to download is too large like 2 HOUR long movies.

I am still looking for a new URL sniffer that an track and list rtmpe mp4 and rtmpe .avi streams now and have had no such success with any of the listed programs here.

sir,
can you please clarify my doubts:so much thankful to you.
My doubts are:i have to download videos from a https:// website that RTMP protocol (powered by Adobe)
1.In this website if i use these softwares for downloading videos , is there any chance that the website owners know that i am downloading their video...?
2.Actually according to website owner`s rules, the customer has to watch their video...Then only they know that we completed their prescribed course material...otherwise an inactivity icon will appear in my profile.
Here what my doubt is,if i downloaded their video by using this software , will it counts as ``that i saw their video``-because it is customery to see their video then only they give certificate.
Lastly i want to say i am completely abide of the copyright laws and this is only for my personal use to study the teaching material offline.
3.I have Jaksta version 1.0....i have installed this version and is capable of downloading the videos from this website and it did well ...That means the 1.0 version is capable of downloading even Adobe protected videos...is it right...?please clarify me...so i can use this jaksta 1.0 version without any hassles to download these videos...
Thanks a lot.

TubeDigger has option "Start next idle download after finished one" in Settings dialog - just combine this option with disabled option "Start downloads automatically" - add required Idle downloads and start first Idle download - all rest downloads will be downloaded automatically when previous one finishes.
