Why are some AOL videos easy to capture and others not?

 

for example, I am trying to get the source mov stream for Lindsay Lohan - First:

I get come up with this url it works great:

http://progressive.stream.aol.com/ao...t_ytcyc_dl.mov

However for

Britny Fox - Girlschool at mp.aol.com

I get this stream url:

rtspt://wms.stream.aol.com/aol/us/aolmusic/musicpartner/sony/britny_fox/BritnyFox_Girlschool_it .wmv

when you replace verything, it should look like this:

http://progressive.stream.aol.com/ao...101_1_1_dl.mov

but this stream url does NOT work....

it seems all of the videos that end with something like "V01411cev0101_1_1_xxx"

don't work,

so my question is: How do you find the stream url for videos like that from aol, surely there is one as all the other videos have a .mov file.

Could someone please use the Britney Fox - Girlschool video as an example on mp.aol.com? I use urlsnooper to get the rspt: address...I tried viewing the source code with IE and firefox at mp.aol.com, but it seems AOl is masking the direct link to the file now?

to get it quite easily.

Sniffed it with URL Snooper and then used HiDownload to capture it.

I would imagine that everything after "700.wmv" is subject to change so I doubt this will work for you. But I believe the key is finding the link beginning "mms://wms.stream.aol.com...." and not having to edit any part of it.

By the way, in posting this link, the "preview of it" shows a space between the "e" and "2220" at the very end and that's incorrect. However, I can't remove the space for some reason so I don't know how it will actually appear in the post? Ah, there's another space that doesn't belong in this link between the "b" and the "8" in the line directly above. Doesn't matter, but it's annoying!


Oh, and the following link in my browser plays just fine and also downloads quite easily ... at least for me:

yes, I can download the britney fox - school video as well, that's easy, but I just want the .mov http url, so I can link to it on my blog. That's what I need to know is:

1) what is the http .mov url for britney fox - school that is played from mp.aol.com and
2) how did you get that url? If you used WM Recorder, where does it show that? the urls should begin with http:// and end with .mov

But for the Britney Fox - school video and quite a few others on AOL, I have not found a way to get the direct .mov link

most you can just replace rtsp: with http:, replace wms.stream.aol.com with progressive.stream.aol.com, replace _700.wmv with _dl.mov and whah lah the link works and I have a direct http link to the mov file with no session or user id? But this does not with with Britny Fox - school video

Why go through all that, simply use the link I provided above to get the .mov file.

but what I need is an http link to the mov file for britney fox - girlschool

downloading the video through wmrecorder is possible, but I don't need the file itslef, just the http link to the mov file....that is what I have found to be impossible to get.

the mms link I can get through URL Snooper, but that won't play on my blog for more than a few minutes until the session id expires.

Well, there's always more than on way to skin a cat so-to-speak. You could always download the .wmv file, reduce the size to 25 mb or less, even convert it to a .mov file first if necessary, then upload it to http://www.putfile.com and then use the link they provide to accomphlish what you need. Check it out. ;)

So has anyone actually figured out how to grab this Britny Fox - Girlschool video? I would really like to know as I've run into other instances where there is an extra extention in the file name like "V01411cev0101_1_1_" and making the "usual" changes to the URL to grab the .mov don't work.

Please let me know. It was a total fluke I even came across this thread but I've been trying to figure this exact same thing out - SAME VIDEO too!

I have URL Snooper, HiDownloader, Replay AV and still can't grab it.

Can anyone throw me a bone on how I would proceed with a file (please use the Britny Fox one as the example)

Well, to be perfectly honest, I've never had any luck with AOL videos until someone clued me in on changing the URL (Progressive Stream, _mov etc etc).

I've tried several different ways using the programs people have mentioned on here Replay A/V, URL Sniffer, HiDownload) but I've never had luck capturing the streams other than by capturing the .mov version. Any other time I try and capture the .wmv, the hour glass just sits at 0% with no results. Maybe I'm selecting the wrong stream? Is there something special I have to do to the address for the .wmv version? What program should I be using to capture the .wma version?

This is a strange intermittent problem as the original poster mentioned. I was able to download:

(You can see it has the extra extention of "_00602498534052" after the file name simaliar to what the Britny Fox address has)

No problems with Zombie. But Britny Fox, I'm stumped.

I'm not opposed to trying other ways, but would really like to retain as much of the quality as possible. I've always thought the .mov was as good as it gets...

Just to give an update...

Yes, I finally figured out how to capture the .WMV file.

Takes a little playing around with to get Hidownloader to recognize it and grab the file - I guess I shall be more patient when it's trying to connect.

In any case - Still would love to solve this quirky thing with grabbing the .mov vs. the .wmv.

If anyone has success being able to grab the Britny Fox - Girlschool in .MOV format, please do enlighten!

Im not for sure but I think videos with url's similar to these V01411cev0101_1_1 are from sony music,and none or most of these from sony videos from aol have a .mov stream.The good news is most of the aol music videos from sony music have higher quality(1000k & 1500k) .wmv streams.I just downloaded a 1000k .wmv stream of Britny Fox - Girlschool from aol.

I sniffed the mms url and just changed the bitrate from 700 to 1000
but this url is expired,the url's are only good for a couple minutes so you have to do it pretty fast

WM Recorder: Auto and URL recording modes. Recording .ASX files.

 

If you have a URL you may use the WM Recorder in the URL mode to record it. In this mode media streams can be recorded up to 5 times faster.

ASX file is a good way to record a part of your media stream. Here is an example of the .ASX file that will start playing your stream from the second minute and will play only 15 seconds:
If for whatever reason you don't like the URL mode of WM Recorder, you may record in the Auto mode, just play an ASX file in the Windows Media Player. Here is an example of an .ASX file without time and duration values:

Cant Download MOV files over rtsp protocol from video.aol.com

 

I am using gamv, a tool that can download, show and give the direct link to the music videos features on aol.com. I ave down loaded many but can't download those which starts with rtsp:// for example rtsp://real.stream.aol.com/aol/us/aolmusic/musicpartner/sony/beyonc_/Beyonce_NaughtyGirl_076801Cev0101_1_1_414.mov
I have tried almost all download managers that supports rtsp protocols, like HiDownload, MovRecorder, NetTransport, Flashget etc, but was all in vain. I am running WinXP SP2 on my PC. Please help. Thanx
