Can streaming videos on sportsnet.ca be captured? (rtmp:// flv from flash player)

using orbitdownloader i am able to get the link of the video, but it seems the server wont allow a connection to download off it.

http://www.sportsnet.ca/video/popup/#

or specifically this video. RTMP can be tricky as ive heard but this one can find the video just not able to download it from their server.

http://www2.sportsnet.ca/video/lates..._bed_in_game_4

some help would be appreciated thanks. :)

Hey C1c2,welcome to the board!

With regards to this, I tried it with TWO Programs.

WM Recorder

And Replay Media Catcher

I was only able to Record the Commercial With WMR, BUT using Replay Media Catcher I was able to record the entire thing with no problem.

Check it out and let me know what you think. :D

Hi Stream Ripper, thanks for the welcome :) and thanking for taking some time out to help me out. much appreciated.

Well i tried using Replay Media Catcher version 2.30 but it would only record the commercial and then 14kb of the actual video covering basketball. It stops at 14kb and then clicks finished.

Could there be something wrong with some settings? I looked around but didnt see anything that might be wrong. Even reinstalled the program again.

So you caught the whole 1 min basketball commentary? I thought i got it but when i checked it turned out i had just downloaded another commercial on the page. Not sure what is wrong with my way of recording.

help :(

Hey there, worry not, we're here to help. :-)

Simply question...what Operating System are you currently using? XP, vista, something else?...

Thanks

Re: Can videos on this site be captured?

Replay Media Catcher works fine for me with on Windows XP SP2.

After Media Catcher starts capturing RTMP flash video stream from sportsnet.ca, you can try to close the browser window.

What kind of error do you get when capturing flash videos from sportsnet.ca ?

Re: Can streaming videos on sportsnet.ca be captured? (rtmp:// flv from flash player)

I will start Replay Media Catcher, and it will start to download the file.

Then it will say it is finished after 19 kb

If i play the small file it just says "streaming" and nothing happens.

This is pretty weird. I will send it to the developer.

This stream is playing in your browser plays without any problem, right?

What kind of firewall, anti-spyware, anti-malware do you have?

Yes, the stream plays fine in the browser. Im wondering if it could be the router.. but Orbit works fine. I even put Replay Media catcher on the windows xp firewall exception list.

I am currently just using AVG and windows firewall. It seems to be this way on all files on that site for me. I even uninstalled my video software and then reinstalled it thinking it might be a video card issue.

On a side note

if recording on this site does work for people if someone could record this stream for me:

http://www2.sportsnet.ca/video/mma/2...att_Serra_Tour

and throw it onto megaupload or something and provide a link to it. :D It will probably be like 20 megs or something (4 min long). Ive tried to get with so many tries but just cant seem to down it. I would use a screencapture device but the quality is already low.

thanks for the replies people.

Re: Can streaming videos on sportsnet.ca be captured? (rtmp:// flv from flash player)

hmm im throwing everything i can think of at this site.

I tried URL Snooper. It couldnt find the link.

This is the html link

Code:

http://www2.sportsnet.ca/video/mma/20080419_Countdown_Canada_Preview_Matt_Serra_Tour
With Orbit Downloader this is what i can get. The actual link to the video.

======================

Code:

rtmp://38.99.151.50/sportsnet/|sportsnet/|SCA_MMA_TOUR_08_04_19|http://www2.sportsnet.ca/video/flvplayer.swf|http://www2.sportsnet.ca/video/mma/20080419_Countdown_Canada_Preview_Matt_Serra_Tour&OBT_fname=SCA_MMA_TOUR_08_04_19.flv
======================

this seems to be the full path to the video but browsers cant download rtmp it seems as firefox is telling me it cant read rtmp. IExplorer cant find it.

FLV Recorder can't find the video either.

Replay Media Catcher finds the link but will only download 1kb of it.

it reads it as this

======================

Target Path: SCA_MMA_TOUR_08_04_19_426FA4CA

Downloading RTMP stream:
RTMP App: rtmp://38.99.151.50/sportsnet/
Media Path: SCA_MMA_TOUR_08_04_19
Audio Received: 0 kb.
Video Received: 0 kb.

======================

If i go through a proxy (thinking that possibly a regional issue) I get:

"Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Macromedia's Flash Player. Get the latest flash player. "

I have one other shot at this... and thats to unplug the router and put the modem straight into the computer in case somehow the router is creating some type of firewall not allowing this.

If you guys can save this.. there has to be a way!!!!! arghhh!!!!!

Re: Can streaming videos on sportsnet.ca be captured? (rtmp:// flv from flash player)

Hmm, I've got an idea...I picked this one up from Applian. Clearing your browser cache, and trying again.

If you're using IE:
1. Open Internet Explorer
2. Go to Tools-Internet Options
3. Go to Browsing History-delete
4. Delete Temporary Internet files

Now:

1. Open Replay Media Catcher
2. Select start recording
3. Select the URL you want to capture
4. It should record-if it doesn't please select F5 on your keyboard.

Just so you know, the first four steps might not be necessary if you haven't been to the site before.

Let us know if THAT helps. :D

Re: Can streaming videos on sportsnet.ca be captured? (rtmp:// flv from flash player)

Clearing browser cache usually helps to record http streams. AFAIK RTMP streams are not cached by the browser so most probably it won't help.

thanks for trying noob2001 but im afraid the first few links take you to the same site location. The 2nd set of links doesnt work because browsers cant locate rtmp as an address.

So i tried it again with FLV Record and i might have made a small breakthrough.. kinda..

this is what im getting now. The flv recorder sees the file and starts to record the packets it seems. Once the video is done I am left with 2 files.

Both named the same (i changed it to experiment in the screenshot). One is an flv file but it is 1kb. The other is what seems to be the video but it turns into an @@@ file. I suppose meaning windows has no clue what it is.

I tried to change the extension to flv but that didnt work. Played the 1kb file that said finding stream.

So is there some way to open that @@@ file or some type of conversion? I tried opening it up with video program to see if it could view it as a video but it couldnt. So im a babystep past getting the file on the comp.. but now it seems its not playable. Like a group of jumbled packets or something i dunno..

Re: Can streaming videos on sportsnet.ca be captured? (rtmp:// flv from flash player)

I have this same problem recording from another address. The @@@ files do still seem to be video, but the header is a bit different to an flv that I know works... I emailed FLVrecorder makers and they said they will look into it..

mabey if a few others say they are having problems they will update sooner. The last update was a long time back.

thanks. Yeah its the right size of the movie file, but it seems its just the packets downloaded and jumbled up. Changing the extension didnt seem to solve the problem.

Ill give them a email too. Thanks. Maybe they can fix it.

the new: Replay Media Catcher 3.0 can catch the stream. The new version can capture rtmp. :D

I've got the full version, and if you ask me it's well worth the $30 or $40 it costs. :)
