Smithsonian Channel

I have a dream...

That I will watch this channel for free as I watch few other US channels.

I make this post in hope or dream if you like that bollock who runs:

http://myustv.com/watch/smithsonian-channel/

will read this post and fix his own site so that I can watch Smitsonian Channel.

As of now, myustv is the only site on this planet that I found that tries to stream or re-stream Smithsonian Channel.

Google, Yandex, Index, who knows who I can't find this broadcast on the internet without paid subscription.

I start this thread on this forum which will stay for as long as this forum lives,

so help me god.

Re: Smithsonian Channel

Most of their programs can be seen on their own website.
I am puzzled with one thing: Why it is for US citizens only?
I wanted to be an US citizen ages ago and was deported.
Therefore, I have no choice but to use an VPN and see America on the Internet only.

I can highly recommend Proton VPN.
They have free and paid option.
Free option is working well. It is unlimited, fast, and it is for 3 countries - US, Japan, and The Netherlands.
If it wasn't for Smithsonian Channel, I wouldn't had tried an VPN ever.

Hi ,

Per studio agreements, programming on Smithsonian Channel Plus is restricted to U.S. distribution, and may be distributed internationally under separate agreement. We appreciate your interest. It is important to note that we do not support the use of a VPN when attempting to access our services. We hope this information helps you moving forward.

Sincerely,
Smithsonian Channel Customer Care

I didn't know that this forum was back up. I wonder why someone from applian decided to fix it? Has it been up continuously since May?

I think that I was the first one to post here on 05-19-2020 after forum reopened.

http://stream-recorder.com/forum/sho...&postcount=488

All knowledgeable members deserted after death of "flash" ( rtmp ).

I try to make a hit with Smithsonian Channel but I don't see many views.

Last post I made is reply I got from Smithsonian customer service.

As per instruction of j_cool I told them that I can access their site with VPN
and that I would like to subscribe for 5 bucks and that I have a problem with payment
because I don't have residential address in the US.

I was unsuccessful and I post their reply here as a record of something that doesn't work,
so let's look at other options.

Hopefully in time there will be broadcasts on the internet similar to myustv, but ones that work.

Well, you and me are here, and we're not that stupid, right? Plus, several of the spammers are back to make us feel at home.

What are you trying to do, sign up for "Smithsonian Channel Plus"?

It's also offered on other platforms, like amazon prime channels and therokuchannel website. Are none of these available in your home country?

My5 also carries some of their programs w/o login required. I believe some other platforms around the world do so also.

Hey Cabulo, you haven't been able to find any use of the account I have sent you ? If I remember correctly streaming was working for me.

Sorry it has passed some time so I have forgot what you have exactly answered to me.

Btw, I haven't tried much with the things you shared with me (regarding cam sites). Hope you have been better luck :)

cabulo 08-20-2020 04:14 AM

Re: Smithsonian Channel

Yes, account works but but the enemy is not to be underestimated.

I could log in and just get stream URL and shut the shit and watch the stream.

Now, if I shut VPN I get kind error message that token and IP don't match so I have
to keep VPN on all time ( on one PC only ).

This makes VPN mandatory and nothing less than quality like Proton Plus at 10 euro per month.

None of free openvpn .ovpn files from the internet work for enemy's sophistication.

If you want shitty VPN you get one for 1 buck per month, or 99 cents pecisely.
And yes, your details will be logged in and disclosed to whoever wants very easily.
I tried to pay them 3 $$$ and they couldn't accept payment with VISA bank card, error 505.
Customer support is AAA but if they are not able to take my money... enough said.

https://vpn99.net/

It is better to talk this in PM.

Cheers,

Cab.

If you run Euro VPN and follow this link:

I'll never be paying UK TV licence fees because I don't have TV set, so I limit myself here for the reason of my own.
I can log in to somewhere else and watch in some other way and I am sick and tired of it because I am forced to it since principles of life haven't changed since the day of down.

It is shocking to see how few views or viewers this topic, Smithsonian Channel, brings to this forum.
If It was about how to watch Indiana Jones in a dodgy way number of viewers would go in 6 digit numbers and attract attention of all worlds censorship and law enforcement.

I never heard of my5.tv and for a start I notice that it takes time to open with US VPN and opens quickly with euro IP.
I'll look later at that and any new information about main topic of this thread, Smithsonian Channel, brings quality of this thread and this forum to higher level.

Your post highlights imperfection and inadequacy of search engines and value of this forum and this thread as search engines return by statistics less than 1% of what you could find on the internet.
Try to search for something on Google for something you find on this forum and I don't find much and somehow this forum itself doesn't show up.

Yelloworanges 08-20-2020 09:48 AM

Re: Smithsonian Channel

What's bad about my5 is that the selections are few and also the top quality is 468p.

On the other hand, therokuchannel (dot com) has 1080p for smithsonian and all the same content.

Code:

https://therokuchannel.roku.com/browse/w.ZRvMz6R3mBs8RgwJ74zzcY6v7QoykAc2B0gvz0G4HKvz34e6lWs2Y8YKZwJ3HDx/smithsonian-channel-plus

Re: Smithsonian Channel

Thanks yelloworanges.

on my5.tv I found VODs only.

That Roku looks good looking at it from US VPN.
Without VPN I get redirected to here:

https://therokuchannel.roku.com/enguard/en-gb

When I search for content, Smithsonian, I get no result.
They talk about their player or devices I wouldn't be interested to buy.
What they don't say in FAQ is: "Can I watch what I want to watch on my PC without Roku junk devices?"
I got lost on Roku website with too much told and explained nothing and result is I found nothing.

Your link is perfect match to what I would like to see in search engine and I hadn't seen it.
Subscription $5 for Smithsonian Channel Plus, Roku, but looks like only for US folk.
When you run US VPN here you find you can't see number of Euro sites I normaly see.
Euronews doesn't ask for money but if you run US VPN you can't see it money or no money.

That myustv.com looks to me like some university student's work for his final exam which
he made once and left. I had my eyes swollen looking on Yandex to find something like that
and next step will be to learn professional Google search techniques and keep on looking ...

Updates will follow.

Cheers.

Re: Smithsonian Channel

There are few free VODs on Smithsonian site. They are very few and hard to find.
Here are some:

The Lost Tapes - LA Riots.mp4
https://www.smithsonianchannel.com/d...son-1#la-riots

The Lost Tapes - Malcolm X.mp4
https://www.smithsonianchannel.com/d...on-2#malcolm-x

The Lost Tapes - Son of Sam.mp4
https://www.smithsonianchannel.com/v...st-tapes/59867

The Green Book - Guide to Freedom
https://www.smithsonianchannel.com/d...ide-to-freedom

They are free at a time of this writting. When I made my first post in this thread all of Aerial America VODs were free to see, not now.
Smithsonian know how to make their business model and I watch what I can see for free, at least on their website.

It is a doodle to download these VODs. URLs can be found in browsers network monitor or with Telerik fiddler.
Here are few urls:

Only the first one is complete with sound and video and resolution is 1280x720.
Here is where streamlink commes handy, it makes it possible to choose between different resolutions.
My favourite resolution is 960x540.

Code:

[download][thegreensboro4.mp4] Written 11.3 MB (6s @ 1.6 MB/s)

Important: stream download won't work without US VPN.

Downloaded video can be made about 10% smaller without any loss of quality with ffmpeg:

ffmpeg.exe -i file.mp4 -c copy -movflags +faststart newfile.mp4

Well done, sysanin.

This is how it works:

Code:

$url="http://89.187.169.202:2200/EX/Smithsonian_FHD-uk/index.m3u8?token="
run('cmd.exe /c streamlink.exe --http-no-ssl-verify --player=mpv.exe hls://'& $url &' best & pause','',@SW_SHOW)

Code:

[cli][info] Found matching plugin hls for URL hls://http://89.187.169.202:2200/EX/Smithsonian_FHD-uk/index.m3u8?token=
[cli][info] Available streams: 1080p (worst, best)
[cli][info] Opening stream: 1080p (hls)
[cli][info] Starting player: mpv.exe
[cli][info] Player closed
[cli][info] Stream ended
[cli][info] Closing currently open stream...
Press any key to continue . . .

It is puzzling where from did you get index.m3u8.

This is from UK broadcast, different program than original US broadcast like on myustv.

https://tv24.co.uk/channel/smithsonian-channel-hd

Yeah, leave it puzzling. Let UK ( BBC ) TV licensing team look arround knocking on people's doors.
