What is the best streaming music recorder?

Is it Replay Music, Replay Media Catcher, Replay AV, HiDownload , StreamRipper, RadioTracker?

Have been using Replay Music for about a year with my free Rhapsody radio from optimumonline isp provider. It works very well with ver. 2.1 the new Rhapsody ver. 3.0 with equalizer is having trouble tagging songs in fact it does not tag id songs at all. I had to reinstall ver. 2.1 and back to no problem

On another note the new ver. of Replay Music offers the option of recording in cbr or vbr. which is better to use with Rhapsody. also was wondering if Rhapsody has upgraded their stream quality. It was 128 kb but I am reading in places they may have uped it to 160 kb . If so should I record at 192kbs , instead of 128 kb.

I use Streambox VCR. I have no problem lining up a dozen or more streams at one time. Once a week or more I download a list of programs from World Radio Netword, WRN.org.

These are files set up for downloading, that is true, nothing to even try to stop you. So maybe those are easier.

I looked into replay radio, but, after looking at all the options and addons you had a lot of money involved.

So, I'll stick with the old standby. Oh, I do use the smf/turbo version.

Streambox VCR (SVCR) is a nice progam. But it works with Real Audio, Real Video, Real Media streams only (stream support of other streams is very limited).
Main problems of Streambox VCR:
1. There is no support for the newest Real servers.
2. QuickTime and Windows Media support is very limited.
3. SVCR crashes if you try to record more than 5 streams simultaneously.
4. SVCR can't record password protected streams.

Besides StreamBox VCR 1.0 Suite 2 is not distributed officially by Streambox so actually it is free only because people use the c.r.a.c.k.ed version distributed illegally.

Also Replay Radio is a direct sound recorder so it can record any sound produced by your sound card. It can record audio streams only.

IMHO it is better to use media stream recorders that actually download stream where possible. Some of them like WM Recorder and Replay A/V can record Windows Media audio and video, Real Video/Real Audio and sometimes even more. And unlike SVCR they offer support which is IMHO very important for these programs.

p.s. It would be more correct to compare SVCR with WM Recorder, Replay A/V than with Replay Radio.

Guess I choose "Replay Music"! Coz it's able to get perfectly separated high quality MP3 files, automatically tagged with the artist and song title and I like its interface.

Replay Music vs. streaming media and audio rippers

 

Many people choose Replay Music because of these unique features. There is no other software that can record any music played by your sound card and automatically split and tag it.

Of course, in many cases it is better to use other streaming media recorders, streaming audio rippers and not direct sound software like Replay Music. But what would you do with a non-recordable or DRM protected stream?

Like any other direct sound recording software Audacity can record any sound produced by your sound card. But it can't split songs and tag them automatically. So I can't call it the best streaming music recorder.

While I recognize the reality of all your points, they are countered by the ease with which I can record archived audio, and can just set up a windows schedualed event to record streamed media. I record windows media and MP3 using SVCR all the time. OTOH, I do not worry about tagging seperate songs, I am normally listening to the whole show.

I am also now using Magix Radio Recorder 2. Works well, IMO. Though I have Audacity I had not tried it for recording streaming audio, just editing. Didn't even think of that. Audacity is available in a no install version from Portableapps.com. That's one thing I really like.

Oh, and I have no problem with large numbers of files downloading at once, or qued up at once, but they are archived files, not streamed. I never record more than one or two streams at a time, so I have no idea of the performance for that.

'coz this topic is about music recorders IMHO it is very important. If you record radio shows there is usually no need to buy any software 'coz you may use freeware direct sound recording software like Audacity.

SVCR was one the first stream recorders I have tried. It was very amazing. And it was free (actually it was not available from the official web-site due to the conflict with Real Networks so it was distributed illegally). The problem is that I don't really like to download software from unknown sources.... and I don't want to use pirate software and moreover suggest it. Besides it is no longer developed. Although it is still better than many new programs.

Magix Radio Recorder is not the best Shoutcast MP3 ripper. IMHO even freeware streamripper is better.

Webcasters with licensing for internet webcasting can't reproduce ...

 

Hey information, you given here. i wanna give little bit information about Sound Recording Performance.

While it is common to hear complete albums or artist specials in traditional radio, webcasters will not be able to do the same thing with copyrighted material. Webcasters with licensing for internet webcasting can't reproduce three consecutive songs from one artist or a boxed set, two consecutive songs from the same album, and, in a period of three hours, four or more non-consecutive songs from an artist, album or boxed set.

RadioTracker allows you to capture ShoutCast songs from of over 16,000 watched internet radio stations worldwide. So you can rip songs from multiple web radio stations as soon as the ones you need are played on any of the watched radio stations.

I would say that using RadioTracker is not different from using p2p networks for downloading music. But web radio stations have rather low quality so you users will buy songs if they really like them.

I think the best music and video recorder is the StreamHijacker. I have been using more then a year ago and it's really cool. Simply, fast, and free. Free because of it's Open Source. Anybody can download it from http://streamhijacker.sourceforge.net .

This software supporting the ShoutCast and IceCast protocols. It can ripping to separated files, make PLS or M3U playlist, TXT or HTML songlist and it have an inbuild ShoutCast radio station browser. Supporting the schedulded recording too!

I' ve tried some of these programs, but i finally decided to stick with RadioTracker. Besides the fact that it searches 15,000 Internet radio stations for music, it also currently tracks, among these internet radio stations, around approx 5,000 Internet radio stations that broadcast at 128 kbit/s quality and higher.

But I must say the the best feature is the MusicFinder's wish list function.You just fill in the desired artists or songs and as soon as they are played on one of the Internet radio stations, Radiotracker starts downloading and in just a few seconds you will be able to listen to your favorite music.

I love Total Recorder. They just came out with their latest release which allows direct stream ripping. Further, they have an internal mini-browser than I use when I can't determine the URL.

I saw some statements that this RadioTracker can download mp3s from radio stations, is it real???? And if it is how is the quality of the downloaded files??

It's very real and the quality of the files is good. There are some moments when the downloaded files are bigger than they should be but it has a feature which can allow you to cut the spare parts.

Like many other Shoutcast stream rippers (please note that many of them are absolutely FREE), RadioTracker can download MP3 tracks from radio stations. It downloads the exact same copies from online radio stations. Most online radio stations have a pretty low bit-rate so you shouldn't expect too much from such MP3 files.

The quality of the recorded files, like Stream Recorder said, depends on the bit-rate of the radio station. Most of them have 128 kBit/s. Radiotracker also allows you to select a higher bit rate, up to 320kBit/s and the downloaded songs will have a better quality, however you might have to wait longer until getting the favorite tracks.

The advantage to
StreamboxVCR: It is free. It captures Real Media and Windows media just fine. Most important, it can be schedualed or launched by command line.

Disadvantage: Not supported. Doesn't capture everything. Doesn't capture from audio.

Advantage to Magix Web-Recorder:

Plays and recorder everything I want. RM, WM, and shoutcast. Scheduals. Saves directly.

Disadvantage: Overcomplicated. Takes too long to load. Not free.

Biggest advantage to both: They are complete as is. You don't have to buy modules to do what you want. I have seen some programs that you have to buy this module and that module to do different things. Some will not schedual recordings, you can only caputer if you are there to run it. Some do not do full quality.

Then there is podcasting. For which I use Juice (formerly iPodder)

I do two main types of recording. There are the regularly schedualed broadcasts I get from either podcasts or Magix Webradio, and saved content like political stuff I use StreamboxVCR for.

Oh, almost forgot, videos on Youtube, that are captured on Firefox with the Unplug add on. Unfortunately it's not compatible with the newest version of Firefox. So I have to wait for the new Unplug to come out.

Or use a different downloader.

Do any of the other programs schedual downloads easily? And record full quality? We are talking shoutcast mostly here. And are complete and low cost?

My vote goes to Replay AV

Replay AV is so good to record online Radio, Video & mostly I like that we can record many shows at the same time

Has anybody ever looked at iGetMusic? RadioTracker MP3s mostly have to be edited due to the crossfading between songs and thus songs will always miss the first and last bit of music. Replay Music works OK but the tagging of songs has a temporary problem.

I don't understand why so many people recommend RadioTracker. It is not good at splitting tracks. Plus it uses p2p technology. Why should anyone record low quality music from a radio station while putting himself at risk due to p2p technology??? Why not using torrents to download high quality music instead?

Though there are many kinds of good streaming music recorder, I think the best streaming music recorder is called Replay Music. It can help me to record all streaming music played through computer sound card with 1:1 high quality. And it is very easy to use.

Thanks to everyone that recommended Replay Music on this post. I just spent 2 hours downloading and trying 5 different free audio streaming programs I found by searching google, none of which properly worked. I found this thread and tried Replay Music. So simple to use and it's working right now as I'm typing this reply. I am not affiliated w/ replay music, just finally happy to find a dang audio recording software that truly works and is simple. Thanks.

PS be careful if you find free sound recorder through google search, that was the first one I downloaded off Cnet and it froze my computer and completely froze Firefox. I had to use system restore and back up files that I had to restore my computer and get firefox working again..

I have recommended Magix Web Radio Recorder in the past. Just checked, and they are up to version 4. I am running ver 2.

Ok, it isn't free. It's $29. However, it does it all, but a bit complicated. Main thing I like is it scheduals very well. Oh, and has a huge base of stations.

Main reason I use it is I do schedual recordings a lot, including some recorded regularly, every week over years. It does that very well. For ordinary playing, it's too complicated and costs money.

For free downloads I still prefer StreamboxVCR. Can be hard to find and isn't supported, but still works very well.

Since it is free, and easy to use, it's something to have in addition to anything else. Esp since it is, essentially, a portable app, it doesn't have to be installed, just unzipped to the folder where it runs.

So, why not have several choices?

There are two free radio stream recorders that I like. Radiosure is great because of all the stations that it lists, and Audials Lite because you can schedule several recordings in advance and simultaneously.

The price is right, both are free.
