Re: Recording video from BBC Learning Zone

You can also use other RTMPE recorders. There are GUI programs for Windows that are easier to use then command line utilities.

If you use Linux, try rtmpsuck or rtmpsrv.

I've an update on this and it seems I've made progress.

I found instructions for downloading video from bbc using rtmpdump here - http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/bridip/clitheroe/iplayer.htm

This seems to work, but I'm getting disconnected when I try to download.

I think the reason is that rtmpdump is not using the uk proxy I have setup. Is there anyway to make rtmp go through this proxy?

If anyone knows a way to get rtmpdump to use the proxy then I think I'll be all set with this.

All the best,
John

RTFM. There is a specific option for using a SOCKS4 proxy. No other proxying is supported.

Agreed.

The only reason I maintain rtmpdump is because it's the only available solution on Linux/Unix. if you're on Windows you have plenty of other choices, and you should probably use them instead. Especially if you're not proficient with command line tools; in that case please don't use rtmpdump.

Hi,

Just an update.

I think I'm using the latest version of GetFLV but it doesn't work for me with this site.

I had RTFM(bit rude, don't get out much?) but either hadn't understood the M or just didn't RTF it properly.

StreamTransport does the job. It goes through the proxy and downloads the vids from this site and any other I try.

Thanks for all the help.

John

Re: BBC iPlayer downloader: How to download .MOV/.MP4 videos from BBC iPlayer

The New Home of getiplayer:)

get_iplayer is no longer supported at linuxcentre, so someone else has mirror here: :) http://github.com/jjl/get_iplayer

download the new getiplayer from there, if you have any questions? ask the new developer here: http://github.com/jjl

Thanks

Re: BBC iPlayer downloader: How to download .MOV/.MP4 videos from BBC iPlayer

If I might just clarify, with a word or two of explanation.

The owner of linuxcentre.net (Phil, in fact) decided not to continue development of his get_iplayer.pl Perl script. This was due to a change in policy at the BBC, who decided to use open source code in their iPlayer project, but then hypocritically refused to allow other people to treat the iPlayer as an open source project!

As a result of Phil's decision, the existing get_iplayer scripts all failed, because those which were sufficiently up-to-date to cope with the recent changes in the BBC's iPlayer code relied upon being able to "phone home", but Phil's site was no longer able to reply, he having shut down all his site's functions and removed everything except a few random Help pages.

It was therefore necessary to make a certain change to the last release version of Phil's get_iplayer script, to stop it phoning home. This encouraged a new developer to take up the challenge, and release a slightly revised perl script which included this alteration. The revised version does not "phone home" at all.

The new developer is now releasing occasional updates to the script to keep it functioning. His site is http://github.com/jjl/get_iplayer but it is NOT a mirror. It is a site for the new, revised versions of the get_iplayer script.

Issues with BBC iPlayer: Can't download rtmp:// streams anymore

I've been using Replay Media Catcher 3.11 for a year, mainly for radio downloads. When trying to download
Code:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00x3yjn/Word_of_Mouth_04_01_2011/
I have the following issue :
--------------
Internal error while trying to download RTMP stream
Exception:
m_nErrType = 15
m_strDesc = "SWF Verification detected -- Sorry, these RTMP connections are not allowed to be analyzed."
m_strFile = F:\proj32\TestRTMPClient\RTMPStreamRip.cpp
m_nLineNumber = 899
--------------

I've tried a few other TV and radio programs at random and am getting the same result, although strangely enough I had no trouble capturing the clips from here:
Code:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00d3cwq
Interestingly, the freeware program Radio Downloader still works perfectly so I can get the episode of Word Of Mouth (and plenty more besides) with that, but I'd much rather use RMC! StreamTransport also works, but only in real time rather than rapidly downloading so is no use for this particular purpose.

Re: Issues with BBC iPlayer: Can't download rtmp:// streams anymore

I don't have any solution for Replay Media Catcher (RMC) 3.11.

RMC 4 allows to record BBC streams in the RTMP recording mode. It does it in real time and you need to have your web-browser open.

WM Recorder 14.8 works just fine with BBC streams in the WMX mode. And the Loopback Stream Recorder that comes with it, works fine for me in the Download mode. It works very fast and allows to download 30-180 minute streams in a dozen of seconds.

Blader works fine with BBC streams as well. It works fast.

And I didn't have any problem downloading rtmp streams from BBC with rtmpdump. It works fast as well. See the following thread for more:
Using rtmpdump,rtmpsrv,rtmpsuck,RTMPexplorer to download BBC iPlayer radio & TV shows

I was having the exact same problem after quite happily using Replay Media Catcher for ages but switching to Blader has fixed it - thanks very much!

However, possibly due to stupidity on my part, I'm having problems with broadcasts that are longer than 60 minutes. In RMC it said to untick the "Enable Super Download" option to fix this and it just downloaded the broadcast in realtime mode. Is there a similar setting in Blader? I've done a few searches and can't find any information on it.

I only know that WM Recorder can handle the 60-minute limit perfectly. But I don't really know what is causing it and how exactly WMR handles it.
