Using dyndns.org with your DVR
  • Create an account with a username and password.
  • "Account" -> "My Service" -> "Add Host Services" -> "Add Dynamic DNS Host"
  • Enter and select hostname
  • Enter IP address of your computer
  • Click "Add host"
    In your DVR software:
    • Find DDNS network settings
    • Enable DDNS
    • Enter username, password and hostname from dyndns.org
    • Apply the settings

Then if your IP address changes, DVR software sends the data to dydns.org and updates it. This allows to access your computer from remote location by using not a weird IP address, but a user-friendly hostname.

p.s.Please note that routers can also be configures to work with DDNS (instead of configuring DVR software, you can configure your router).

Hi

I am trying to set up my camera so i can see it from external location. I have a dynamic IP so i created the DynDNS account and went through that configuration......I have a LJD Deltaware Camera and it came with an application I can install to view the cameras. I want to know if I can use this on a WEB INTERFACE because I want to view it online from anywhere instead of having to install this software all the time?

When i try to go to my HostName it comes up with error so is there somehting I need to do to see it on IE7 or Firefox etc rather then using that application?

I have the 8 channel Dedicated DVR - http://www.adata.co.uk/default.asp?t...28Deltawave%29

Thanks

It depends on how you set it up. Usually you use your IP address or an IP address of your router.

I don't really understand your question.
You can use port forwarding of your router for accessing your DVR or something else.

thanks very much

You get two different IP addresses because your router has it's own broadcasting IP to be able to log into your entire network, your ip when you do ipconfig is your computers personal ip.
Set up a static ip - to have it static the last octet has to be under 100
set up a port number most defaults are 80, 8080, 7000 etc
log into your router do port forwarding on the corresponding port number for your DVR.
go to whatismyip.com
write down this ip
type in http://the ip you got from whatismyip.com:port number
EXAMPLE: http://208.173.132.83:7000
This will allow you to remote view your DVR through your network ip
This is a WAN IP
the 192-196 ip you get from ipconfig is a lan ip and only used within your network, you will NOT be able to connect to this port through theat IP address. You have to use the IP off of whatismyip.com

You will NOT be able to connect using the static IP address assigned to the dvr to view remotely. This IP address is only set up to have LAN communication. you can use that number to view your dvr on computers inside of your network only. to view remotely you have to use your network IP address that your router uses. this IP can be found by going to whatismyip.com. write down the IP address.
for remote view (outside of your network) type in http://your IP:your port number assigned to your dvr - this port has to be forwarded or opened in your router
example http://208.173.281.12:8000
your remote connection IP will NOT be a 192-196 number. these numbers are assigned inside of your network only

Thank you for making this clear.
You do need to use the IP address of a router.

By "your IP address" I meant the IP address of the computer when the router is not used in the home network. I should have admitted that this is very unlikely in case of using a DVR.
