I have this error happens with only books from 1 publisher
other books are de DRMed nicely

Hi,

I have seen that error before. That error is caused by a pdf "dict" object having an odd number of elements in it. According to the pdf spec, a "dict" should only ever have an even number of elements since they are sets of key/value pairs.

So that pdf from that publisher corrupted. ADE still opens it because it must be more robust to violations of the official pdf spec.

You should be able to edit that pdf by hand and change that specific dict element to have an even number of elements by finding the hopefully obvious non-pair (extra key or extra value) and removing it. From looking at your error it appears there is a /Keywords key that does not have any value associated with it. If you can edit that file and remove the /Keywords piece from that dict element, that should fix that error.

Or perhaps a pdf repair program might be able to help.

How can I edit the PDF file and change it?? which software??

Update : Systtools PDF repair didn't solve the problem
Update 2: recovery toolbox fixed the file but bookmarks and cover was lost...

Hi,

Make a copy of the bad drm'd pdf. Edit it with emacs (or any other good editor such as vim, jedit etc). Search for the line with '/Keywords' in the file. Look for something in that line that looks like '/Unknown'. Remove the substring '/Unknown' ***just from that line***. Save the file. Then try with the tools.

Sorry for reviving an old thread but does anyone know if B&N's DRM PDF is based on Adobe's DRM?

I'm in a bind. I purchased a PDF ebook and it's only readable on my Nook tablet. So far, Nook for PC still doesn't allow downloading the same title to desktop. I like to be able to read this other devices. Please help a noob!

As i owned the book, i would have absolutely no bad feeling in torrenting the title in question.

Hi,

I followed the instructions, generated the key file and when starting to decrypt with ineptpdf_8.4.51.pyw and alternatively ineptpdf_v7.11.pyw I always get the error: Error -5 while decompressing data: incomplete or truncated stream.
As far as I could analyse the failure is not directly in the ineptpdf-script but in a library it uses. But I am complete helpless at this point.
Any suggestions?
