the poll isn't uptodate anymore, as of recent. All of you will have noticed and some of you have suspected correctly: Replay Media Catcher 4 (RMC4) is a very different product from RMC3 (Applian's Replay Media Catcher v3.x); and at the same time Jaksta and RMC4 appear twins and even bear identical version numbering (e.g. v4.0.12.0). It is confirmed info (open secret) that Jaksta and RMC4 are, nowadays, developed by the same partnering company of the Applian group. And Applian itself did in fact stop the continuation of the v3.x product line.

Many people do not know Jaksta ("jaksta? who?? what? wtf??") but when they use the current version of the popular Replay Media Catcher product, which is still distributed and supported by Applian, they are actually using a Jaksta clone. Also check out the amusing video on the homepage of Jaksta: it's like Lenovo stating "Our 2010 Lenovo Thinkpad-like products are 3x better than the competition" and showing pics of old 2004 IBM Thinkpad products. Knowing that Lenovo acquired the entire IBM PC business section in 2005 would make you smile about such a statement :p

To be fair and give Jaksta a chance, the poll should reflect their twin/clone behaviour:

instead of
+ Replay Media Catcher
+ Jaksta

it should read
+ Replay Media Catcher 3.x product series (Applian)
+ Replay Media Catcher 4.x / Jaksta 4.0+

or simply
+ Replay Media Catcher 3 (discont'd)
+ Replay Media Catcher / Jaksta

i.e. both Jaksta 4 and RMC4 lovers use the same vote button, whereas those to still use (because they prefer so) RMC3 have their own vote button.

Thank you very much for your notice! I can definitely notice that you have lots of experience with the tools. It is nice to see members like you in the forum.

let's note that:
  • getflv.net (111.90.134.4, Malaysia(MY)) is registered by "Terry Backer" <contact@superlogix.net> (shanghai, China).
  • hulu-downloader.com (110.4.45.98, Malaysia(MY)) is registered by "terry backer" <superlogix@gmail.com> (shanghai, China).
  • superlogix.net (67.19.132.141, Texas, United States(US)) is registered by "jiangnan, li" <contact@superlogix.net> (Liaoning, China).
"Terry Backer" owns about 20 other domains.

Comparing GetFLV with Hulu Downloader, there is no doubt that they both are essentially the same tool coded by the same software programmer. We have observed a similar thing with StreamTransport and its commercial variants. Is all this important info? Nope. Is it somewhat interesting nonetheless? Yep.

I personally think there is no the best tool, just have the tool which is suitable for you. Because I have tried several tools which claim that they are the best tools, while I failed to record streaming videos fluently. Recently, I tried Replay Capture Suite, though it can’t be regarded as the best tool, at least I can download and record videos smoothly.

You can also use Video DownloadHelper for downloading some HTTP streams, RealPlayer for HTTP and RTSP, MMS streams, VLC player, MPlayer, command line get-flash-videos. IMHO Jaksta for Mac is the best streaming audio/video downloader for Mac OS X.

Internet Download Manager [IDM] is a rather surprising stream downloader. Originally devised as download manager (pretty pesky and obtrusive) it can also download RMTP (but not RTMPT, RTMPE, ..) url's with no further parameters supplied.

When Replay Media Catcher 4, WM Recorder, HiDownload, NetTransport fail to download simple RMTP url's (and you dont want to bother about RTMPDUMP :D ), e.g. when the test webpage url is unknown, then try IDM. Simply add the url in "Add new download" and give it a try.

IDM needs to be added in the above list, the poll!!

When Internet Download Manager (IDM) fails even with simple RTMP streams, try WM Recorder and Replay Media Catcher 4 :D

Dear ANONYMOUS :)

thanks, I added Internet Download Manager to the poll, right you are. When a webpage contains video material, IDM alerts the user and offers a "download link", similar to mig's famous Video DownloadHelper[VDH]. This means IDM is a process running permanently in the background and watching webpages and video links; i dont appreciate that. IMHO she intervenes too often and cant keep her mouth shut . Obnoxious lady she is.
But it is good to know that a tool exists which can download for example rtmp:// url's without further download parameters. So whoever doesnt want to put up with FREE command line tools (rtmpdump.exe, rtmpsusk.exe,..), get IDM, it is FREE to try! :D

You can do the same with Replay Media Catcher 4 (Tools -> Download), Jaksta, NetTransport, freeware Blader, VLC, ...

Internet Download Manager fails too often for me to recommend it as a streaming video recorder.
