In case anyone is interested. I have written an ABC iView app which is implemented as a FUSE driver. This means that if you are running Linux you can 'mount' iview so that it appears on your computer as just another drive/folder. You can browse for shows using your file browser and then click on a show to watch it through your favourite media player. You can also download a show if you want just by dragging and dropping the show you want into another folder. As far as your computer knows, iView is like a USB flash drive. :)

The program is here:

http://github.com/garfunkel/auntie

The program has very few dependencies. Just three, and if you running most modern desktop distributions they will be in your repositories. The dependenies are FUSE, jannson (json library) and libxml2 (xml library).

Note: To program this I mainly used LLVM Clang, but many of you are using GCC. The program compiles perfectly under GCC. You can do this by changing 'clang' to 'gcc' in the makefile. If you still have issues compiling the code it could be because you have an older version of your build utils than mine. That's OK too, just change the -std=c11 to -std=c99.

The program is implemented in C and uses librtmp and doesn't call rtmpdump so this should help to avoid several issues people have been having with these types of apps.

Have fun!

Hi, and welcome! Nice to see a new face on the horizon. :)

Bizarre, but interesting idea you have there. Wow, way to think outside of the box!

WP scrapped your thread in the Linux forum - probably because of the so-called "ABC doesn't authorize or support downloading iView programs in any way" sentence in ABC's FAQ pages. Pretty sure YouTube has a similar clause, but I never see those threads canned there

Anyway, nice to see you here. Hope your stay is enjoyable :D

Hello,

Is iviewfox no longer being developed? Is there an archive of the add on somewhere?

Stil works on my older PC, but went to install it on my new PC and got a shock as I couldn't find it.

Re: How to use iView (ABC Australia) downloaders

Unless we here from Yansky we can't be sure, but there is the possibility that he's been hit the same legal firewall that got Python-iview killed (insofar as you can kill anything released on the web). As to getting a copy you can use FEBE to repackage iviewfox on your old pc into an installable xpi file you can copy to your new pc, open the xpi file with Firefox and viola.

Hi this is a rather ingenious solution.

I've done my dependency chasing and compiled this, i can mount iView and browse but as soon as i try and copy or open it fails. I get the fuser favorite: "Transport endpoint is not connected" and running with debugging on i get:

unique: 59, opcode: LOOKUP (1), nodeid: 2, insize: 76
LOOKUP /Gruen Planet Series 2/Gruen Planet Series 2 Episode 6.mp4

sorry to dump like this in here, any help appreciated.

Cheers

PS: I'm running with just ./auntie iView/

problem with 'Artscape Episode 9 Bryan Ferry' - can't get to the Artscape series, no image, no episode list
(SBSNapper, batch downloader - Windows)

The iView Player has no problems.

Anyone able to download this show?

LOL! Well, SBSNapper would definitely have a problem :D

As for the Batch Downloader, it looks like they're getting the address info from somewhere else... The address that is in the menu list is correct as the actual webpage:

hxxp://tviview.abc.net.au/iview/api2/?series=3424236

shows "[]" too.

Might be that time of the year again... You know, the programmers justifying their existence, budget, etc.

Re: How to use iView (ABC Australia) downloaders

My Guess is they are starting to mesh the ABC player with iview. Rather than have the same content in 2 places they just get iview to call on the ABC players copy, may be the first step into a fully integrated iview.

This is based on a quick look at the ep while trying to get some meaningful urls from urlsnooper, video appears to be a step down in quality (ABC player goes up to 400kbps bitrate while iview is 600kbps)

It's an odd one, since everything else I have looked at is OK.

SBSNapper - SBS On Demand has been a right PITA for a while, must have been on my mind..

Nope... iviewNapper throws an exception and the batchfile shows no episodes for that program.

The batchfile (v15.85) has stopped downloading in the last week or so for everything I've tried. RTMPDump looks like it's trying the wrong URL:

The show "Young Dracula - Young Dracula Episode 7" was not found on the server.

Press any key to continue . . .

iViewNapper still works ok though (except for artscape...:p )

Is v15.85 the latest batch version? I can't find a later one. I really like being able to queue stuff with the batch file and leave it to do its thing.:D

Can someone else try this on Akamai for me please? I have Hostworks + v15.85 and don't have any problems with that one or others (except that dodgy Artscape one).

Also, you don't have a zero-byte file of the video you're trying to download in the same directory do you? If so, delete it and try again.

Thanks for the reply Anywho - it's started working again on v15.85... hurrah! There weren't any zero byte files.

I can't get a download of "Artscape Episode 9 Bryan Ferry In Conversation With Virginia Trioli" - http://www.abc.net.au/iview/#/view/27115

I have tried HiDownloader - each time, only 17m of the 27.5m; and Firefox with latest FlashGot has greyed-out FlashGot Media.

Another Artscape problem - OK on iView Player, can download once it's going using Stream Transport - but the downloaders can't find the Series.
Superficially at least, the URL seems to be OK in the downloaders vs what shows when using the iView Player.

Has anyone noticed other shows/series @ iView that won't download with iViewNapper, etc?

Re: How to use iView (ABC Australia) downloaders

The Play School series has a problem - index out of range (or similar).
Something wrong in the catalog file, I guess
(extracted from catalog file)
{"a":"3202772","b":"Play School","e":"pre-school recent last-chance","f":[{"a":"28712","f":"2012-11-29 10:35:00","g":"2012-12-06 10:35:00"},{"a":"28742","f":"2012-11-28 10:35:00","g":"2012-12-05 10:35:00"},{"a":"28765","f":"2012-11-27 10:35:00","g":"2012-12-04 10:35:00"},{"a":"28790","f":"2012-11-26 10:35:00","g":"2012-12-03 10:35:00"},{"a":"27776","f":"2012-11-02 10:30:00","g":"2012-12-02 10:30:00"},{"a":"27796","f":"2012-11-01 10:30:00","g":"2012-12-01 10:30:00"},{"a":"27829","f":"2012-10-31 10:30:00","g":"2012-11-30 10:30:00"}]},

I can't see it, though.

Affects both iViewNapper and the Batch Downloader.

[edit]
I used the old series URL 11733 and can get a usable episode list that begins -

[{"a":"3202772","b":"Play School","c":"Join the playschool team to learn a little, while singing songs, listening to stories, making things, and going on adventures with Big Ted, Jemima and all the other toys, on this all time favourite children's show.","e":"pre-school recent last-chance","t":"pre-school","d":"http:\/\/tviview.abc.net.au\/thumbs\/i\/playschooldayandnight.jpg","f":[{"a":"28689","b":"Play School Day And Night","d":"During the Day and Night series the presenters, Alex Papps, Jay Laga'aia, Rachael Coopes, Leah Vandenberg and Teo Gebert, explore the routines and patterns that children may participate in at different times of day and night.","e":"pre-school","f":"2012-11-30 10:35:00","g":"2012-12-07 10:35:00","j":"1473","i":"123","m":"G","n":"kids\/playschool_1112H010.mp4","s":"http:\/\/tviview.abc.net.au\/thumbs\/i\/playschooldayandnight.jpg"},{"a":"28712","b":"Play School Day And Night","d":"During the Day and Night series the presenters, Alex Papps, Jay Laga'aia, Rachael Coopes, Leah Vandenberg and Teo Gebert, explore the routines and patterns that children may participate in at different times of day and night.","e":"pre-school","f":"2012-11-29 10:35:00","g":"2012-12-06 10:35:00","j":"1523","i":"127","m":"G","n":"kids\/playschool_1112H009.mp4","s":"http:\/\/tviview.abc.net.au\/thumbs\/i\/playschooldayandnight.jpg"},

Yes, I had a record of an old JSON file and so I just fooled it to go to the other URL (returns useable stuff, see my second JSON post). Odd things happen - I'm always on alert for a changed arrangement.

What I do is to allow user to double-click a textbox that has the full name (Series + Episode), and edit it however needed.
That requires a new textbox, and a bit of coding, however (since I save a description file, and the image - which are also renamed).

I have been saving Play School for kids, and the last week iView has omitted the day (- Monday) that is usually tagged on. Otherwise, all eps have the same name for a week. So the renaming is useful for that.

Re: How to use iView (ABC Australia) downloaders

I have iViewDownloader v7.0 for OSX and having a few issues lately.

I know that it's been pulled due to the legal action, but it still works - kind of.

I can updated the program list, but it now only contains kids shows (and many full series strangely).

The series.txt file contains the actual latest list of all iview shows but the possibleshows.txt is just a cut down list.

Any idea how to get the full list into possibleshows.txt so I can download some adult stuff?

Re: How to use iView (ABC Australia) downloaders

Just a quick update; after the ABC asked me to remove iviewfox I had a bit of a think about an alternative and I stumbled upon xVideoServiceThief. It supports rtmpe and works on windows, OSX and linux.

Unfortuanately at the moment it doesn't support passing extra rtmp parameters. I have posted in the xVST forums and have received a response from the developer that this feature will be available in the next release.

It should also be possible to create a plugin for plus7 I think.

Re: How to use iView (ABC Australia) downloaders

I've just been having a look at the contents of series.txt and it appears there is a new format.

Many of the files now have a 5 digit ID, where previously they were 6 for a show and 7 digits for a series ID.

Anybody skilled at SED to modify the file parsing?

I've had a play but it's beyond my primitive skills.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Seems it has not been accessible since about 4:00PM on 26/12/2014 - they probably haven't cleaned up the catalog entries.
There are a few others that behave that way - eg, allthe Tropfest episodes, currently.

Hi,

As most know, iviewnapperlite worked well with IE8 but had incompatibilities with IE9. It has been removed from MCE's website, so just wondering whether anyone has made any progress on making it compatible with IE9?

Thanks!
lwill

The problem in IE9 was an incompatibility between objects created in VBScript and Javascript.

In the past one could pass these objects between these two languages without problem but since IE9, no.

All one needs to do is to rewrite the VBScript code in Javascript and hey presto, it should work.

Re: How to use iView (ABC Australia) downloaders

Off-topic, possibly a FFMPeg question?

I have an already-downloaded show that came in 2 parts, as two FLV files the first of which ends at exactly where the second starts. Each is about 1 hour play time (and they play well with VLC).

It was a stupid action of mine to think this was going to work, but ..

I did a copy /binary which creates a video file but VLC Media Player says the result is only 1 hour (ie, it is reading header info from the first part).

Ideas?

If you don't have the 2 original FLV files;
http://www.buraks.com/flvmdi/

Comes in 2 parts. Program is command line.
There is also a GUI fromtend further down the page.
This may fix it.

I use AviDemux to join videos (and to edit some) and despite its name its pretty much universal

I'm having problems (AVIMuxer, 2.6.1, 64-bit). I've never used this before.

The 2 files have identical format, VP6-E (On2), audio is MPEG-1 Audio layer 3. The bitrates are slightly different (892kbps and 1146kbps) and the WxH and aspect ratio are the same.
I can load file1, choose append and load file2, but I'm at sea with the settings I need (everything I tried fails - often with a suggestion the bitrate is too low).
Is there a help tutorial somewhere?

[edit]
I successfully joined the FLV files to another FLV file which seems fine, use Andy's FLV Joiner.
But I would like to convert to MP4 possibly H264 suitable for iPad. Is AVIDemuxer suitable, or should I use ffmpeg? I do have the right params lying around somwhere - previous help from blood.eaglz I think.

Incidentally, a few days ago I used ffmpeg to convert each part to mp4, then used copy /b to join - but I was disturbed by many tens of error messages from ffmpeg (something about 'droping', in yellow text). Maybe Andy's flv joiner just ignores any problems? (I am guessing).

Re: How to use iView (ABC Australia) downloaders

if by params your talking about my flv to mp4 bat file for ffmpeg, I'm afraid it only works for a h264 flv. As you've stated that the files are VP6 that wont work.

AviDemux should work fine. Personally I use XviD4PSP 5 series (6 series played up for me and lacks some features last time I used it)

Absolutely:
http://handbrake.fr/downloads.php

Select source.
Select destination.
Select preset (Over on the right)
Start

[Edit] maybe we should get ourselves moved to a new thread. :D

hi, I've just tried d/l 'Kumare' using version 20121123 and it returns
'index was outside the bounds of the array'

Please can the experts do their thing and get napper working again?

Thanks

I think this has a problem at the server site - ie, it needs fixing at their end. Wait for a few hours or a day, and it will be fixed.
[edit]
Originally, this was a part of "Sunday Best" series - some searching finds it under "The Best of Sunday Best", here.
The link at that pahe takes you back to the iView Player, here - which is the same NULL result as iViewNapper is presented with.

So - wait, or send a message to ABC via the page at The Best of Sunday Best ?
