Lops, the code is changed in the file drmdbg.ini. You can open it with a text editor like Windows Notepad.

drmdbg.ini is created in the same folder where your drmdbg.exe is located.

By default, it is set to to folder that drmdbg is located. Also, the option to create a separate folder for the "DRM2.key" is enabled by default. Let's say that drmdbg is located in C:\drmdbg. By default, the DRM2.key file would go inside C:\drmdbg\DRM2\DRM2.key.

In the "simplified kit", I made a very simple adjustment to the ini file that disabled the "Create DRM2 Dir" option by default. Thus, the key would simply appear in the same folder as drmdbg.

If the file isn't being created at all, then the problem might be that drmdbg just isn't finding the keys. (Which is why it doesn't export anything...)

As for your problem... Some people have been reporting that Yahoo! Music isn't working with drmdbg. One user reported that FairUse4WM 1.3 works for some reason.

Do you use Yahoo! Music?

I'm having the same issue that dr29 was having...it doesn't generate a key, but I was wondering if maybe Ruckus was another program that it didn't work well with?

I did a search looking for drmdbg.ini and it did not locate it. Now if that file is hidden then a search might not locate it. But, I did look in the hidden DRM directory and it is not in there.
After you said it is where the drmdbg.exe is, I looked in there and here is a picture of that folder.

maybe I didnt extract it right?
I know that I cant fet fairuse4 to run it gets an error when i try to run that......

Stream recorder- I appreciate your help so far.
I unzipped the files and was able to modify the drmdbg.ini
Now I am having problems creating/finding the keys. I run drmdbg.exe and It will try to open a song, then I get this readprocessMemory_error window
as well as WriteProcessMemory_error from DRMDBG
So Ill close it and open it again. The next time, it will play the song in windows media player, but it does not create/generate/find the key and put it in the field next to CLEAR on the drm tool. here is a picture.
Please help.
thanks so much

MS seems to have patched their DRM

I just noticed after several attempts to remove some DRM ( I was able to this morning) that DRMDBG no longer functions. I remembered that MS told me this afternoon that there was an upgrade to some security files and I would not be able to access my media if I did not update them.... so I said OK. It placed an indiv02.key into my DRM folder.

The Version Went from:
11.0.6000.7000
To
11.0.6000.6324

I renamed the DRM folder as a test and re-individualized once again... the new indiv01.key is now version 11.0.6000.6324 and went from being 832kb to 1151kb.

Now I get those memory and write errors as well...... Any help?

Download drmdbg + FreeMe2 (2008/01/01)
http://sharebee.com/6042e1bc

Basically, I packaged drmdbg and FreeMe2 (the latest versions of both, so drmdbg is the January 1, 2008 version) and jotted down some quick instructions on how to use them from start to finish. (It starts at individualization and ends at freeing the DRM-protected content).

P.S. As always, scan for viruses (yes, I'm asking you to scan a file that I posted for viruses). I know that I'm trustworthy, but you don't. Stay safe. =)

That's the "something that may help you". Now here's my request...

Can someone (preferably someone who hasn't even individualized his/her computer yet) please follow the instructions step-by-step and tell me if everything works out? I want to make sure that I didn't miss a step or write down a step incorrectly. I already did the first few steps a while back, so I can't verify that they are correct.

Thanks, and enjoy... At the same time. x,X

Oh, and I take credit for nothing other than the instructions. Even then, you're free to post the instructions wherever (with or without credits... I don't really mind) you want.

For those who already have drmdbg and FreeMe2...

Please help me find any mistakes. ^,^

i really appreciate this tutorial that you have provided.
i tried, it worked at first.. (i mean i managed to get the sid thingy).. but when i copied to cmd, my freeme2 will stop working and close.

so i deleted, and tried all over again.. i cant get the sid thingy anymore. provided a screenshot for reference.

I am also having the problem of drmdbg not giving me any key output. However, when I looked at the media usage rights, it said that that "the media usage rights cannot be backed up". does that mean that it doesn't store the information in indiv01.key, which is why i can't get any keys from drmdbg?

Ok I reinstalled WMP and now the key file exists in my cache.

My version however is v11.0.6000.6324.

Im getting the same read/memory errors that some other people have posted.

When I "individualize my computer" by clicking that security component upgrade link, it takes me to the web page but the link that says "UPGRADE" is grayed out and I cannot click on it.

How do I get 11.0.6000.7000?

Re: HowTo Instructions for Removing DRM with drmdbg & FreeMe2 (from Windows Media Pla

Hello! I've been using drmdbg in conjunction with freeme2, and after having some initial difficulty I've gotten it to work... somewhat.

I'm at 11.0.6000.7000 on drmdbg, running on Vista. I have to use the "media usage rights" trick in WMP to get a SID code to appear (right-click on file name, then hit properties and the media usage rights tabs after clicking multiscan in drmdbg).

HOWEVER, a .key file is never created. I have both programs in the same folder and have the key directory set to there and I have disabled the key directory option.

Even though it doesn't make a key, I don't have to copy/paste the SID because freeme2 seems to automatically decode the music and create a freed file after it's been run through drmdbg. (I've searched my computer, and there are no .key files anywhere!)

Sounds great, right? BUT, BUT, the freed file is completely messed up. Its properties still report it at the right length, size, etc., but the "song" only lasts for 5 seconds at the most, and it's completely silent! I just get a garbled noise right before it goes out.

Anyone have any clue what could be causing this? Any help is appreciated!

Instead of upgrading IBX from 11.0.6000.6324 to v11.0.6000.7000, you need to downgrade IBX from 11.0.6000.6324 to lower version or to v11.0.6000.7000.

Re: HowTo Instructions for Removing DRM with drmdbg & FreeMe2 (from Windows Media Pla

I'm having problems.
When I first go to http://services.wmdrm.windowsmedia.c...en/indivit.asp
I can not click Upgrade, so I assume the DRM Process is already set up?

When setting up the filename path for the *.key file mine doesn't have the cache directory. In the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM directory is a DRMv1.key and IndivBox.key file

thus the edited coding in the drmdbg.ini file
[IndivBoxKey]
path=C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM\IndivBox.key
[drmv2clt]
path=C:\WINDOWS\system32\drmv2clt.dll

When opening up drmdbg.exe
The following pop-up occurs.
drmdbg - "ReadProcessMemory_error" which I would need to press OK twice before WMP would open

*now no error occurs, but also WMP does not open

What am I doing wrong?

Re: HowTo Instructions for Removing DRM with drmdbg & FreeMe2 (from Windows Media Pla

i have been succeed in solving the readprocessmemory_error problem.

1.use windows media player 10, not 11.
if you use 11 now, you can follow the steps:

(1). uninstall wmp 11 (control panel, add/remove programs, windows components)
(2). uninstall wmp 11 runtime (control panel, add/remove programs)
(3). uninstall Microsoft User-Mode Driver Frameworks (control panel, add/remove programs). if the Wudf01000 confirmation box appears click OK and continue
(4). Open a command window. Click Start-->Run enter cmd and hit enter.
(5). change directories: cd \doc*\all* <--puts you in \Documents and Settings\All Users
(6). remove unwanted attributes from the DRM directory: attrib -s -h DRM
(7). Open Windows Explorer, navigate to \Documents and Settings\All Users and then delete the DRM directory
(8). go to microsoft.com/download and get wmp 10
(9). install wmp 10

2.upgrade your drm at:
http://services.wmdrm.windowsmedia.c...en/indivit.asp

3.install FairUse4WM 1.3 Fix-2

4.open a .wmv file that has drm license, access the license.after pop out a windows says "you have received a license"(wait untill the play button is available),close the window(don't hit play button),then close the windows media player.

4.use FairUse4WM to translate the file.(you can search for how to use FairUse4WM)

sorry for my poor english.glad if i can help.

I am having a problem with drmdbg.exe extracting the keys. I have the Indiv01.key located, and everything has been individualized, but when I try to run the Multi Scan, no DRM2 folder or DRM2.key is created, even though WMP starts playing the music file. Also, no SID information is outputted. I am running Vista 32.

Re: HowTo Instructions for Removing DRM with drmdbg & FreeMe2 (from Windows Media Pla

I have the same problems.

First off, I'm using WMP 10 on XP (SP3) inside a VMWare virtual machine.

I have individualised the system, getting me the following text in the text box next to the "Multi Scan" button in drmdbg.

Quote:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM\IndivBox.key
v11.0.5497.6285
I know it's not v11.0.6000.7000 but that's what I get from individualising, DRM media plays fine in WMP and I don't know how to get a different version (I have no "DRM\cache" directory, no "Indiv01.key" etc and I do have both hidden and system files visible)

I get the ReadProcessMemory_error and WriteProcessMemory_error on every version of drmdbg I try and no DRM2 directory or key file appears. I would guess that it can't debug the wmp process so it can't extract the key file, since the name implies it is a debugger similar to ollydbg and wanting to read a process' memory confirms this.

I've tried every suggestion here, including deleting the DRM directory contents.

I also tried FairUse4WM on a DRM protected file that does play fine in WMP10 but FairUse4WM tells me:
Quote:

---------------------------
Unable to recover private key
---------------------------
No license available for specified file.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------
A different version of FairUse4WM could get my keys ("2 keys found") as soon as it started without me selecting anything. However, when I tried to run the DRM protected WMV through it I get:
Quote:

0 files converted.
0 errors.
1 warnings.
C:\foobar.wmv does not appear to be licensed to you.
Even though (as I have said) it plays fine in WMP10 and is definitely protected (VLC plays garbage when it tries, my network activity shows a licence fetch by WMP and WMP even says when it is downloading the licence).

Edit: Fixed that last problem using the following forum thread
FairUse4WM Error: filename.wmv does not appear to be licensed to you :)

I also never use Napster. It shouldn't be necessary, even for audio. As long as you can play it in Windows Media Player, you should be able to remove the DRM. The wma/v file should have a URL inside it that tells it where to go to get the licence file (used in conjunction with your IndivBox.key for generating the content decryption key) and the only way I can see that needing napster is if you downloaded the music with napster and they use their own web server for it (which requires authentication) - in which case, you would already have napster.

 If no one answers this soon, I'll understand seeing as it was started over a year ago...

I followed everything up to the point where it says " when you find the key" but I have searched my entire computer for anything with "Indiv" and I have no luck finding the Indiv01.key or 02 and so on.

I have individualized, I ran it, funny enough, I have found 2 diff downloads for it, one opens the GUI version you speak of in this thread, and the other just uses the CMD, anyways I changed the paths, and I made hidden and hidden system files visible, went into the DRM file, but no Indiv" ".key file found. What am I doing wrong? If you can, dumb it down a little more starting with what causes the file (Indiv" ".key) to be there in the first place.

1. My system is Individualized

2. My paths are as follows in the drmdbg.ini (And i did check this using show hidden folders and files):
Code:

[IndivBoxKey]
path=C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\DRM\Cache\Indiv01.key

4. my WMV DIR points to the folder containing the drm locked music

5. when i hit multiscan the box above the clear button fills in with the song but the box to the left of the clear box remains blank.

6. I am running Windows Vista Home Premium.

7. I have read through several forum threads but have not figured it out yet...
