Tried Replay Media Catcher and it downloaded an RTMP stream. You can also use other RTMP Flash stream recorders.

Thanks for that. The latest NetTransport seems very good, it even sniffs out the URL.

I've found a freeware file converter to make the flash audio into an MP3. It is ****.

No need to convert, because audio tracks can be extracted losslessly. For example, Replay Media Catcher can extract MP3 from FLV (You can use its demo version to do it for free).

The file that NetTransport downloaded didn't want to play as an MP3 till I had converted it, well, it seemed that way.

By the way, just as a matter of interest why was the recommended converter ****ed out, it seemed kosher enough, and it's free. Did I inadvertantly break some rule?

As was mentioned above, you can extract MP3 files from FLV audio only files without losing quality.

Radio DL
is the program you need
sometimes it stops workling as the bbc change the way it stores its streams, it is usually updated within a week though
