If I understand it correctly, you could get 1080p with the AverTV if you wanted it (compared to the component video limit of 1080i in the Hauppage HD PVR), but no HDCP so you'd capture at something like 480i. Is that correct?

I haven't seen any HD DVRs that support HDCP yet. If you don't want to convert HDMI to component, then you will be able to record SD video only (like 480p or 480i).

Magic TV MTV7000D box can capture HDMI (HDCP) signal with HDMI connection. But it seems being sold in HK only. i don't why this manufacturer can make it and so far it is the only one claiming able to capture HDCP.

I am looking for a way to record HDCP or non HDCP TV shows, and then be able to display them at a later time on a HD TV. This would be for private use only : no DVD burning, no other duplication, no commercial use etc...

If I understand correctly, with the proposed connections I would end up with the TV shows converted to non-HDPC MPEG records on a PC disk with, however, some loss of quality.

These records could then be directly displayed on the PC , but what else would be necessary to display them on a HD TV ?

What video source do you want to record from?

1080p can be transferred via HDMI. When you use component video, you can get 720p or 1080i video. So if your source video is 1080p, you will get a lower resolution.

Analog video coming from component video input is not protected by HDCP. You can compress it using any video codec (including an MPEG codec). The quality loss depends on a codec and its settings a lot.

Many different solutions can be used. It depends on your preferences as well as devices that you have.

My HDTV is DLNA compatible. I just connect it via ethernet to my PC, run a DLNA server software on my PC and stream video from my PC to my TV. Sometimes I also copy video files to my flash drive and insert it into my HDTV, then just play videos.

You may also use a network media player for streaming video to your HDTV. Or you can connect your PC to your HDTV via HDMI.

The right way to do this is to use an DVI-to-HDMI converter such as the AUD-2362 (about 60$).

Connect the HDCP encrypted signal from the source (HD set top box, play station, or the like...) to the input. Connect the output from the AUD-2362 to the input of a HDMI capture device, such as the BlackMagic Intensity PRO.

The converter will strip away the HDCP encryption and you can do whatever you want with the resulting high-def stream.

Or just use the HDMI2HDMI+ Audio, it's a stripper HDCP for 20 buck on Ebay.

No power supply, just plug in your HDMI source and plug out to your capture card or your TV uncompatible HDCP.

Compatible 1080P@60Hz!
