What mode do you use to record BBC and YouTube streams?

I am a little confused. I have checked the version and although the application tells me it is 14.0 created 24/11/09, when I check for updates it tells me that there are no updates but that current version is 12.2 - 09/17/08.
Regarding mode, it is ADA.

I have downloaded WM Recorder 14 again and it shows version 14.0 created 12/07/09. It works fine for me on YouTube and BBC in the ADA mode.

Because the recording stops immediately my best guess is that a firewall or an antivirus prevents WMR from recording. I use Windows XP with Agnitum Outpost without any problem. Do you use Windows Vista or Windows 7? What firewall do you use?

Also you can try to stop playing streams as soon as WMR starts recording them.

Please try the WMX mode, it may work better for you.

Notified the developer about the bug.

Re: Recording cancels instantly after starting

I use Norton as antivirus and firewall on windows XP.
I start streaming until download begins, then I stop streaming as you suggest.

Iīll try WMX and see what happens.

I am just surprised because I had no problems with version 12, on the other hand 14 is better because it allows download of BBC radio which 12 didnīt. It would be even better if it could work with the BBC iplayer videos. I think it has DRM issues, otherwise it would be perfect.
Canīt have everything.
Thanks for your help.

Same problem here (WM Recorder (WMR) ver.12.3)

Attempted captures at YouTube immediately prompt"
Code:

Downloading - CANCELED
Possible clue: URL displayed in WMR's URL box is significantly different from URL address displayed in Firefox (3.5.6)

Here's sample URL of Failed capture, as displayed in WMR's URL box:

Code:

http://v22.lscache1.c.youtube.com/generate_204?ip=0.0.0.0&sparams=id%2Cexpire%2Cip%2Cipbits%2Citag%2Calgorithm%2Cburst%2Cfactor&fexp=906501%2C906002&algorithm=throttle-factor&itag=34&ipbits=0&burst=40&sver=3&expire=1264039200&key=yt1&signature=3F775F1AB9AB1552AEF963CA9DC39DBF372B3EF4.CA2B7F128C25340F0D38C28FC8F36916BA0079B5&factor=1.25&id=e9a8effe9ec13fa4
Here's what Firefox displays as URL address:
Code:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ajv_p7BP6Q
BTW - Entering shorter Firefox URL (above) in WMR box prompts "Invalid URL ..." or some such (Or WMR records an un-playable snippet of file)

Re: Recording cancels instantly after starting

Sometimes your browser stores these videos in your cache so it can pull them up faster when you go to watch them. Unfortunately when this happens it doesnt request the URL, and WM Recorder cannot record it.

Try clearing out your browser cache and see if that makes a difference :D

The URL in the address bar of your Firefox is the URL of the web-pages, not the URL of the video that is embedded into the page.

If you go to http://download-youtube-videos.org/ and enter
Code:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ajv_p7BP6Q
you will get the following URLs for the videos:
Code:

Medium quality:
http://v22.lscache1.c.youtube.com/videoplayback?ip=0.0.0.0&sparams=id,expire,ip,ipbits,itag,algorithm,burst,factor&fexp=906001&algorithm=throttle-factor&itag=34&ipbits=0&burst=40&sver=3&expire=1264078800&key=yt1&signature=23F6D3625A1C9C7BA0713CF16D6FF00585598E20.23F4205ADAE68F27CCB95F2D8C82AA21FB6A3601&factor=1.25&id=e9a8effe9ec13fa4

Low quality:
http://v13.lscache1.c.youtube.com/videoplayback?ip=0.0.0.0&sparams=id,expire,ip,ipbits,itag,algorithm,burst,factor&fexp=906001&algorithm=throttle-factor&itag=5&ipbits=0&burst=40&sver=3&expire=1264078800&key=yt1&signature=CD2085536618BEE19AD175441389DAEF1F620528.90A1F0DB4D72831AD9F3ABA99E42217417B6386D&factor=1.25&id=e9a8effe9ec13fa4

The URL I got when recording with WM Recorder 14:
Code:

http://v22.lscache1.c.youtube.com/videoplayback?ip=0.0.0.0&sparams=id%2Cexpire%2Cip%2Cipbits%2Citag%2Calgorithm%2Cburst%2Cfactor&fexp=903901&algorithm=throttle-factor&itag=34&ipbits=0&burst=40&sver=3&expire=1264082400&key=yt1&signature=70F8F3F2AA2E00A4BC964FD7695643C8A71A24AA.0BF3DA52D660A46267C0728C3ABF33D2B3A24AD6&factor=1.25&id=e9a8effe9ec13fa4&
(the video stream was successfully recorded in the ADA mode)

If you use a firewall, try to disable it temporarily and see if it helps.

Re: Recording cancels instantly after starting

Thank you for all the suggestions. I have been clearing the cache and it seems to have helped. However still sometimes the download does not begin until it is cancelled and started again.
Nothing is perfect in this world.

Re: Recording cancels instantly after starting

Sorry for piling on, but I have the same problem with WM Recorder 14.1-01/24/10, purchased just this morning. I use Windows XP, SP2, and access the 'Net via Internet Explorer. Most sites I visit output in FLV. I've previously used WMR 12 extensively, and with great success.

My experience is that WMR 14 attempts to record in RTMP format (whatever that is), but shuts down after downloading just 350kb or so. I've tried fiddling with the WMX and PRO settings through the Mode switch, but with no results. I've performed several reinstallations of WMR 12, but again, no joy.

Also, the right-hand tool bar (Settings, Status, Help, etc.) is non-functional. When I click on"Options", for instance (trying to get deeper into it), the only effect is that the WMR 14 box becomes semi-transparent until I lift off the left mouse key.

Hellllp! (Thanks in advance for any advice :-)

Frank

Hi Frank, specifically - Can you please provide me with the URL of the audio or video you're trying to record, so I can trouble shoot the issue?

Thanks. :D

Re: Recording cancels instantly after starting

This is quite frustrating, particularly when version 12 of this software worked so well and trouble free.
Having said all this, it is still the best of this kind of software available.
