It's doesn't matter legal or illegal to record video streaming. it will be illegal and counted as piracy if you will share your recorded video publicly. So if you recording it for just your entertainment purpose then it doesn't matter about legality or illegality.

Right, if one uses anything not to get any profit and only for one's personal goals then it's absolutely legal.

I think recording video is not illegal. But then what I think is illegal is the distribution of those recorded videos. If you keep it for personal use, I don't think it is going to be punishable.

Cliff's statement is an exaggeration, and IMHO is incorrect.

Section 1008 of the Act makes non-commercial use lawful, in the USA. In this context, 'commercial' carries its ordinary meaning, i.e. a payment. File sharing traditionally involves no payment, as the person sharing the file gives it away, i.e. for free. Hence it would appear to be noncommercial activity, which the Act permits.

I don't give a damn whether it is legal or illegal to record video streams. It won't stop me to record it if I think it's worthy.

It all depends what you're downloading, for instance, the BBC are public owned, we're forced by law to pay them a TV licence, so all BBC made stuff comes under fair use

What I mean is you can't own a TV or even just a computer without being forced to pay the BBC a licence every year, and it doesn't even matter if you never flick it on any of their channels

So all BBC financed stuff comes under fair use, hence why we don't see any copyright warnings when we upload BBC stuff to Youtube. I could even email them and tell them that I'm uploading their stuff and they wouldn't remove it

If you never share to others it mean not piracy. But if you share in any means now it will become a piracy.

That makes about as much sense as

"Its not robbing a bank if you never share the money"
