YouTube is making another attemp to ban web-sites that allow to download videos from Youtube. Most popular web-site can't download from YouTube anymore, so they offer to use software instead. Also many programs have stopped working recently as well.

I have compared different converters and I recommend the tool I use, Soundtaxi to download videos from youtube easily.
It converts music and movies, and also burn files on CDs. The converter is easy to install and use. It converts video to MP4, WMV, AVI and 3gp.:)

i know a site where they show you in a easy way with pictures and text how to download a you-tube video and how to do more then that.

I am using Vdownloader to get youtube, pr0ntube etc videos as .avi or .mpg among others.
Program is freeware too
